Just keep this in mind if you are going to attend the game this weekend...

Sounds like a bit of overstatement, but who knows?

The West this morning said Carpenter had rejected the AFL's offer and said that it wouldn't save any power.

I love how this government rules by example!
Everyone turn off your heaters and conserve power. So me turning off a light at home is conserving power, but turning off the light towers at Subi (which I heard today costs $10k a game to run) wont save any power?

They better ____ing not, I'm working Saturday arvo and finish early so I can make the game.
10k is a drop in the ocean anyway, it's the big factories, plants and so on that gobble up the power.

Carps probably rejected it because he has an invite to a box and wouldn't be able to make it if it was earlier!!
I am sure the decision by Carps benifits the Dockers........somehow..
Perhaps when we run out of power in a few weeks, everyone can balme the eagles for 'that night game' and the AFL can take our draft picks.
It is a conspiracy I am sure/paranoid

Might've been rewarded for changing training times earlier this week because of the lights.

I think that the Government's logic was that the use of the power at Subi would be offset by having 40,000 people at the game, and not at home using power and gas there.

Why not make use of the Dockers' giant inflatable white anchors and use wind to power the lights.
They should have some sort of practical use, apart from looking ridiculous and giving us a laugh every second weekend.

...This Saturday’s match between the West Coast Eagles and Geelong will remain at the designated starting time of 5.40pm despite the State being in the grip of an energy crisis...

wouldn't mind a switch to 210pm, 6c is the temp for Saturday night.

What is the article on about the Round 22, Fremantle v Collingwood being played in sunshine with Melbourne viewers getting it on TV at twilight? It's still a Friday Night game with a 6:40pm local start time from fixtures I've seen.

They can't! I'm working til 3 :(
I don't think they will anyway - well Carps has proven to be stubborn and they apparently have said No thanks already, so I think the game will stay at the normal time. It saves 40,000 people sitting at home with their heaters blasting, their tvs, radios, lights on etc.. so it would kinda even out :s
If they do though, can they not tell Geelong?

In hindsight, perhaps moving the game and not telling the Cats would have given the Eagles a chance to get a head start...
