View Full Version : Will we be forced to wear the urine stained outfit in the finals ???

Now this is a very big IF...purely just to pose the question.

If we made the grand final & played the Bulldogs, would we be forced to wear that horrible uniform on the big day ??? It would be a disgrace!

Even if we played the Bulldogs or Adelaide in weeks 1,2 or 3 the same question applies.

They work out alternatives in the finals...

Preliminary Final 07: Geelong had white shorts and socks to help Collingwood out.
Grand Final 07:Geelong had white shorts and socks to help Port Adelaide out.

I think you would find the AFL would make the Bulldogs wear there white shorts and us wear our Maroon and say that is enough to separate the two.

Adelaide or Melbourne I think they would allow the red away jumper (They always seem to be a little more relaxed with the dress code come September).

We're wearing it against the Demons next week too. :(

Sorry AFL... no clash. Lions with white shorts... Demons navy blue shorts.

Has the AFL actually paid attention to how fricken bright the Fitzroy red is?

Waiting for lions_den's predictable "get over it" response.

No, we are wearing the piss strip. :(

I was just pointing out another lack of a clash with the away strip.

For a second there I was going to use "common sense" and "AFL" in the same sentence. Looks like I will have to wait a while for that yet.

You can still do that.

"The AFL is completely devoid of even the slightest amount of common sense"

The reason why the AFL makes you wear the urine stained outfit is becuase they have 5,000 of the tops in stock and they ain't going to sell them if you guys don't wear them.

Perhaps, we should wear Gold shorts a la 1975?

 How the hell do they expect to sell those montrosities?

There are a few oddballs out there: I quite like it..., but nowhere near 5000 of them.

i've noticed that in rebel sport and in the afl shop they are starting to do a "buy home or fitzroy jumper get clash for half price" thing

Question:

In January 09: You walk into a shop and see our 2008 white clash jumper on sale for $10, do you....

A) Buy it and wear it if your other Lions jumper is in the wash.
B) Buy it and put it in the bottom of the cuboard.
C) Buy it, get it signed and framed.
D) Say "I wouldn't take that if they offered me $10 to leave the shop with it".

Option D for me though thanks.

I notice you like to leave off the part of my quote qualifying that I like it apart from the urine stain.

As the first person to make the urine analogy, I am claiming royalties for each time someone else calls it the urine strip, pee stain strip or piss strip (and other associated urine related names).

As the founder of the "Urine Strip" analogy, TBD I urge you to lead a delegate of Lions supporter's, marching up to the steps of AFL HQ in Melbourne, on behalf of the Lion's player's, threatening to boycott any future games where this monstrosity is made to be worn.

Imagine us not turning up to play the Bulldogs on grand final day. That'll teach em good & proper TBD!

We can have a piss-protest. A massive army of Lions supporters answering natures call on the lawn of AFL house.

That would work. It would have to be a piss & run campaign. Even at the same time. It would be safety in numbers. Only the weak & frail would get nabbed by the local constabulary.

Things we're prepared to do for our club eh ?

I don't mean to "rain" on this parade but the question may well be irrelevant.....we are hardly guaranteed of even making the finals yet!

But if we do, why the hell can't we just do a "Collingwood" and tell the AFL to "piss off".:D

I would say lets have nature call on the clash jumper as a sign of our dislike for it but someone already beat us to it, I just don't know how they managed to do it on every one of them ;):D

NB I would never urinate on any jumper with our clubs logo on it. The above is for Joke purposes only.

Personally, I see a clash with the Melbourne & Lions jerseys, they are both solid, dark colours.

I dont like the urine-staing, but I prefer the black & white TV* days of a dark & light jersey, with the home team deciding what they want to wear on the day. You can't tell me that teams cant travel with more than one set of jerseys.

I think the best option is not to buy the urine-stain, and petition the AFL to change the design to a more preferable light jersey.

When I play footy(not this code), I really cant be bothered having to remember what colour jersey Im wearing that day each time I react to play.

* PS. Im not that old, I just recognise the benefit in the old reasoning.

Go the clash strip.

I'm not a fan of the red jumper 'Fitzroy' jumper. Since when has red been part of the Brisbane Lions? And its not Fitzroy anymore, its the Brisbane Lions, lets have a jumper that reflects that. We dont see old Bears jumpers at the Gabba (nor should we).

I hate to open the abovementioned Pandora's box... but what would you do if someone said...

"I'm not a fan of 11 home games in Brisbane. We are the Lions, not the Brisbane Bears. Lets have a share of home games in Melbourne that reflect that."

Your "Go the clash strip" comment also seems to be contradicted by your own arguments. Yes, red has never been part of the Brisbane Lions... but neither has white... nor claw marks & gradient colours...

The red away jumper looks alot more like a Brisbane Lions design to me than the clash atrocity.

Ok, let me clarify, I love having a clash strip full stop, my 'go the clash strip' was more in reference to that and the debate the clash jersey argument brings.
Most know my fondness of the current one, and I can see how that comment was representation of that. (It wasn't really).

All I need to say is the things players do, especially in public after a few beers.

Fair enough. I like the idea of a clash strip too. Lets hope the 2009 edition puts the current one to shame. ;)

Since when has the AFL considered the public interest?

Since the big money, it's become another over-inflated bureaucracy throwing its weight around.

Sounds good to me. Let's apply the Collingwood logic and get 11 home games in Brisbane and 11 games in Melbourne!

Edit: Re-read that and realised I'd never see a home game here in Sydney

If they are going for $10 bucks I hope someone posts it on the board - I'll buy one

Ive still got a flanellette shirt that I bought for my first snow holiday in 1975 and they are back in fashion - again!! - I'm always on the lookout for a sneaky bargain and then I like to get my money's worth out of it

Am only listening to this game tonight as I am rugged up with a bad cold.

Just saw the first half highlights on 5th Quarter. The jumper the Crows are wearing is a joke, that is worse then there home jumper, AFL have really lost the plot with there clash jumper policy when we needed our white jumper last week against the Bulldogs but the Crows are allowed to wear red against us tonight:eek:

The jumper the Crows are wearing is a joke, that is worse then their home jumper That's exactly what I said tonight when they ran out at the Gabba! There's absolutely no white in the Crows Clash/Away jumper at all. The AFL just love to bully Brisbane and let other teams get away with whatever they want.
