Kane Cornes on Ch 10 news suggested that Troy Chaplin and Steven Salopek were likely to be added to the leadership group for a limited time this season, to prepare them for a step up in the future.
The leadership issue in footy clubs is a bit of a worry for me on the basis that leadership appears to be limited to a select few and not all of the members of a team. This approach would only serve to create unnecessary divisions in a team structure and encourage non-leadership players to leave the 'leaderships things' for others.
I do some work in leadership, teamwork and behaviours for the oil industry and the program is based on all people in the industry have an equal input into developing and showing leadership.
IMO Involvement at the same level by all players would be the most effective way to improve team performance.

I think it's a good move. One of these two guys should be our next captain after Tredders moves on whenever that may be. I wouldn't see the point in putting someone like Chad or Kane in as captain in 2 or 3 years time only to be in that position for 1 or 2 years themselves.

Yeah two guys who appear to be natural leaders and whom i expect to lift with the added responsibility.

I must admit that my first response was that Broges should have been added too.

Brogan is one of my favorite players and has been playing great footy this year but he really needs to see out the year without any trouble and then sign a new contract and he should be added next year.

yeh i agree that brogan has the potential to deserve a spot, but with his apparent unreasonable demands, i dont think you should reward a bloke doing that to your club. If brogan signs happily, then join him i see (assuming no more assaults) (except on crows)
Get Brogan in there asap.

I could not agree more !
Leadership is a misused term. The head of the team is the coach and the players are all equal regardless of reputation etc.
The coach must be in charge.
