View Full Version : ROUND 13:HAWTHORN vs NORTH MELBOURNE, MCG

Saturday Afternoon footy sees the Hawks, fresh off disproving theories that they can't win in Adelaide and can't win without Buddy kicking a bag taking on a North side who were disappointing last start against the Purples. Massive game for North who need a win to keep pace with the lower reaches of the 8, whilst the Hawks need to keep winning to remain in that top 2 position.
North have swung the axe at the selection table, 2 of which were enforced (McIntosh knee, Power groin). But they do get their attack back in harness with N.Thompson, Jones and Grant all back in. Guerra in for Bateman is the only Hawk change at this stage.
Overall it's 86-76 to Hawthorn all time with 2 draws (discounting the 1994 final which went into extra time). Hawthorn won earlier this season in Round 3 by 16 points thanks to Buddy (5), Roughead (4) and Osborne (3) doing the damage with Jones (3), Grant (2) and L.Brown (2) doing the main Kanga scoring.
TIP: Hawthorn by 28 points.
Am looking forward to going along to the G on a Saturday afternoon for the first time since Essendon v Hawthorn prelim of 2001. Although I was unfortunate enough to go to this corresponding final last year which was a terribly skilled and defensive game.
Just hope Hawthorn come to play footy this time and hope Buddy kicks a BIG bag. North are going that badly that Hawks could win by 15 goals, with Buddy kicking a dozen.
Well wouldn't it be great to see.

Yes, i hope that buddy kicks a bag as i am going to only my 4th ever football game.
I dont live in much of a football family but me, well i just LOVE sport.
So i am hoping for a big hawks win as i am going to the game with a kangaroos supporter and would love bragging rights of 2 wins in a season against the same team.
My tip is hawthorn by either 6 or 60. It really depends on whether buddy kicks 9.3 or 3.9

The epidomy of 'danger game' for Hawthorn.
Kangas always seem to have our measure, regardless of form or ladder position.
Some big in's for the roos will proved them with some much needed firepower, while the Hawks will lose the important run of Bateman. However, the return of their quarterback, Brent Guerra, should provide some consolation.
Hawthorn cant afford to take this game lightly. The roos are always hard on the rebound and will be DESPERATE to win this to stay in touch with the 8.
But, after last weeks win in Adelaide I just think the Hawks have that extra polish.
This game will be closer than the pundits expect.
Hawks by 20 points.

This fixture makes many Hawks nervous, and with good reason.
Hawks still have plenty of talent in the grandstand for this one; the guys who turned it around for us in round 3, Bateman and Sewell, are both out.
Surprised to see Thommo picked FWIW.
$5.25 for the Roos is insane.

We were as bad as ive ever seen us last week and have had players dropping like flys, meanwhile you have lost one game for the year and are playing at your favorite ground. I think thats where the odds are coming from.
We need huge games from the returning Grant & Jones (especially if Thommo doesnt play), and we can put on decent scoreboard pressure on a good day....but my god...we were awful last week. terrible.
Hoping for a close game.

Roos in to $4.60.
I must say I would be staggered if Thommo got up today - that would be some effort.
Recent form line or not, you still have two teams who haven't had too many recent blow outs and match up well.
I shouldn't have any reason to be pessimistic, yet I worry. Hmm.

No, it wouldn't. But I suspect that is exactly what you will see.
I'm sure our guys will go hard after the humiliation of last week, but we just don't seem to have the players available that can make a dent on this game.
watch out for that shinboner spirit.
we're gonna see the roos play well and dominate early i would assume.
there a good side, and very underrated they will come out to play today.
$5.25 i would place money on the roos!
Danger Game for Hawthorn I reckon. The Roos will be embarrassed about last week and they'll come out hard.

Tuck is on the list on Game Day Live, but so is Morton. Tim Clarke is not, however. Tuck in for Clarke by the looks.

Sounds like a low scoring slog - similar to last years final between the two. Suit North more?

I'd take Roughhead easily over Griffen.
I don't understand the Griffen hype. What has he done?
He is a shocking kick too. So only half of his possessions are actually useful.

Yeah sorry, Thompson kicked one late.
Go Roos, I tipped you, please don't drop off in the second half.
I also tipped North :D :thumbsu:
Based it on the fact that they usually get the better of us, a lot of the time when i tip against Hawthorn.... they actually win so it will work out both ways (if we lose, i'll be +1 in tipping :thumbsu:... if we win we'll remain in good shape on the ladder).
can someone post the scores???
