View Full Version : ROUND 13: COLLINGWOOD vs BULLDOGS, DOME

The Robert Rose Cup is on the line as the 3rd placed Doggies take on Collingwood. For some reason they've put this as a twilight game whilst St.Kilda vs Freo is on FNF, but that's an argument for another day. Collingwood are looking to bounce back after a 2nd loss to the bitter rival this season, whilst the men from Footscray are looking for more of the same.
No change for the Doggies barring sudden injury, a death in the family or overnight defection to the Mugabe regime so Harbrow, Hill and Street remain at Williamstown. But the Maggies have big forward line problems. Already without the suspended Travis Cloke, Josh Fraser has succumbed to a knee problem that has bugged him since the "Origin", and Leon Davis is also injured with a knee. Anthony Rocca is amongst the expanded bench, but he's 50/50 at this stage. So Malthouse has to somehow drum up a forward structure with Bryan named at FF and 6th gamer Reid at CHF. Cameron Wood is a certain in (replacing Fraser) so it's 2 of Rocca, Goldsack, Toovey, Stanley or Cook to come in.
History is beckoning Collingwood should they win, for it will be their 100th win against the Bulldogs all time. For the record there's been 1 draw (in 1995) and 40 Bulldog wins. However Collingwood have lost 3 from their last 4 at the Dome, and the Dogs have won 4 of the last 5 (the 5th was a FNF match in 2006 where a Rocca tackle snapped Rob Murphy's knee).
TIP: Dogs by 13 points

Tough to see our boys getting up in this one, the Dogs have had our measure the last few seasons and seem to match up well on us. However with our backs against the wall with injuries and after the boys copped a bit of a flogging for losing to Carlton twice:eek: expect the Pies to put up a good fight.
Expect the game to be won in the midfield with the Doggies having a bit too much class. Imo it will be close most of the day only for Bulldogs to run over the top of us at the end.

I have said this before and i'll say it again. We may get rolled but i have a sneaky suspicion, that beware the pies when they look vunerable, beaten and go into a game as underdogs.
Pies in a thriller by 5 points.
Maybe its the loss the bullies need to have.

Pies always play well when everyone expects them to get thrashed. Will be a close game. Bulldogs still playing the same flawed gameplan in 2008 - great in H&A but fails reliably in finals. Toovey back to strengthen the Pies lineup. Bulldogs by 2 points. :)

Actually the doggies game plan is much different to previous years. Our contested possesion has been a major focus and we are yet to lose in this area all year. As such, our midfield has smashed most others providing our forwards great delivery.

We deserve to get thrashed for selecting Toovey. Sick to death of Malthouse playing favourites. It isn't good enough.

Good clash expected however as very few others have said Collingwood play well under pressure against the good sides, i.e. Geelong so hoping for a win. Both sides have alot of youngsters playing so it will without doubt be a thriller. Against what many believe including our own Collingwood supporters i am going to tip the pies by 15 points. Go pies!!!!

I think it will be closer than previous years, but the dogs to prevail. Sorry pies - a win will have to wait until next week.

Might get on them... since they're already out to $4.50
then again margin betting is awfully tempting ... $2.30 at 18.5 points in
scratch that... i just looked at the recent record & the dogs have won 4 of the past 5 by around 5-6 goals... so looks like i'll be getting on the doggies as well just as insurance

yeh dogs have been a bogie team
that final in 06 was just horrible
key players missing and the doggies are up and about. They're the hardest running side in the business and use the ball very well. Will keep the faith but can't see the Pies getting up this week.

for what purpose? we already lost once to north? I thought that was the loss we needed to have?

I really have very little hope going into the match. I rate the doggies very highly, and we have a poor record at the Dome and they have a good one. We have some key players missing while the Bullies are probably at full strength. We seem to relish the underdog tag but I don't think it will work for us on this occasion.
The only way we have any chance of winning is if we pull off the same kind of effort that we did against Geelong. Otherwise we will be beaten soundly.

Dogs midfield runs rings around us normally. Our only hope to beat them is aerial dominance, but with our two key forwards not playing I can't see this happening. Dogs by 41 pts, however I always look forward to seeing how we play under adversity and how our kids stand up.

Dogs by 70+.
Terrible form + key injuries + the in-form side as an opponent = Collingwood getting humiliated.
Aker to run rings around all of the magpies players :D
Dogs by 10 goals

Not a chance we'll beat the Pies by 10+ goals. It'll most likely be a scrap for most of the afternoon, with the Dogs running away with it to win by 20 points.

Rumour at the VFL reserves match yesterday, coming from players/officials from the Pies.
Danny Stanley did not play yesterday. He could come in.

Both the Bulldogs and Pies boards have him in doubt.

Would it be correct to say that everything Brad Johnson touches today turns to the brown smelly stuff?
Collingwood would seem to be in trouble. Not much going on up forward for us :( - Being smashed in the middle... poor backline is going to have a looooong day.

tom williams back on the ground for the dogs
A better team would be 10 goals up by now if we served this up. An old fashioned half time spray is in order I think.

Dont have to chase if you are on the ground...

Yeah he can continue to watch his opponent run away from him. I actually get scared now when Johnno goes near the ball. He's just as likely to come out now and kick 6!!

Is there any danger of Brad Johnson keeping his feet??
That would reduce his chances of receiving a free kick.
"Brad Johnson looking at the umpire. Thought he deserved a free kick" <- one of the most common commentary phrases.
Anyone listening to SEN. Who do you think Dermott Brereton and Grant Thomas are supporting?
Unfit Rocca and Didak in the forward line is not working very well :(
It's going OK, just got to convert more.
Dogs are lucky that Collingwood have been wasteful in that term. If they don't lift they will be beaten comfortably. Dogs back 6 have been great so far but when it comes in that often eventually they will start to crumble.
wonnydog
22 Jun 2008, 18:49
Collingwood harder at the ball/stoppages/man at the moment, they look very hungry. Dogs must lift. Pies could be 3-4 goals up if they kicked straighter. Pies running very hard from attack to defence and vice-versa.

Had not had a chance to watch the Dogs for a while and was looking forward to tonight's match. They have been bloody appalling. Especially Johnson and Aker. Too much being left to Murphy and Hahn. Minson also not good enough and Griffin missing nearly every target he kicks at.
Lucky to still be this close.

What a surprise, Shaggy gives away a dumb 50. The Dogs owe their members an apology after this game.
