View Full Version : Is St. Kilda back?
As ugly a win as it was, the saints proved tonight that they are still a quality team. Backs to the wall, plenty of young inexperienced players, and they have come up with the goods.
Fine effort from the Sainters, and Well done to Ross Lyon for his excellent coaching tactics.

they were terrible.
Freo were worse.
therefore St Kilda won. wouldn't put much stock in that win.

what an awful awful game of football

Nope - They only beat Freo

Yeah, they'll go on and win the flag from here, after all they just beat Freo by 8 points
First up it was a gutsy effort by the Saints but I think around 13-14 other teams would have rolled them tonight.

They were playing Fremantle, in Melbourne.
So no, they aren't back.

A very ugly and lucky win at their home ground against a lowly ranked team. And they celebrated like it's 1966!
Not much to get excited about to be honest

While it is a good win with the number of newbies in, they were playing a team sitting 3 from the bottom. Lets not get carried away
I reckon both Essendon and West Coast would have rolled either team after tonights performance. Is it fair to say that neither team deserved to win? AFL should have just halted the game and given the four points to charity (Melbourne).

Well they were playing the "dangerous" Dockers (lol)
Some positive feedback on here!!

Yep, they are back .... as they hardly had anyone forward!

I beg to differ. I reckon you could argue that Fremantle lost that game. A fine effort is as far as it can go for us.
Does anyone apart from Pav line up for Freo from week to week?

i don't think you would have to argue it, it was pretty damn obvious

I think they can take some positives away, they played 3 quarters without Dal Santo, Milne and Hayes and still won.
If they can string a couple together and Riewoldt can continue to find some form they can definatley make the 8.
Hayes, Ball and Riewoldt fireing, will be enough to cause more than nuisance value in the finals.
They will get better this year, only question is, is it to late?

No they were bloody awful tonight and just lucky they were playing Fremantle. They will not make the 8 unless they have a dramatic reversal of form.

If that was an example of the best that St Kilda or Freo can dish up then they both should be ashamed of themselves. Terrible football by both sides.

No, they will never get close to a priemership playing like that. Partially because of the game plan but they were awful. If they played a top 4 side tonight, they would've been done by 50+ points

Who are Freo? Are they that team with the purple jumpers that Pavlich plays for?

Not many positives out of tonights game of footy. From a neutral supporters perspective it was simply a shocking game

Positives for me was still being able to win (who cares if it was scrappy) playing half a side with 20 games of experience or less..:thumbsu: Eddy was good so was Allen and McEvoy's first touch of the footy hit him straight on the noggin.:D

On tonights performance not even close to being back.
The Eagles v Bombers game last week had a better standard of footy than was on show tonight. What an absolute disgrace.

they were never there to be back. Sorry but its the truth.
In 08 its this simple:
1 Super team Geelong (wait till the last 4 weeks of the Season for them to hit top gear)
2 conetenders in Hawks and Bullies
4 Potential Prelim final opponents in Crows, Sydney, Lions and Pies.
If you want a smokey I like the Crows. But I am biased unobjective and proud of it.
lol
I could say that I think we could do ok with some key forwards to come back in !
On GF day anything is possible just ask Port, lol they never thought they would lose just sjy of 20 goals lol
will have to do more than that to convince me.

If not for "the Rockstar" Lenny Hayes's efforts the umpires should have stopped the contest at the end of the first quarter.
The other game highlight came from Timmy W with his comment "only player to make a header before his first kick in AFL footy".

One win against a bottom 4 team does not make St Kilda back, assuming they had a positive position to come back to.
Pavlich was killing us and had to be stopped, and was. The defence got tighter and far more dense, the midfield strangled up.
Felt for Hayes as he was clearly BOG until going off with whatever he went off with (cork, strain ... don't know yet) and big kudos to Ball for having a terrific game after that early ugly-ish hit.
Much bigger test against North next week, though it's at a neutral venue.
How scary is Mark Harvey in his post match??
