View Full Version : Brownless on Eade & Dogs
After the NAB loss to ESS I had a chance encounter at a golf course with BB we got onto the doggies and he was quick to remind me of his kick after the siren in that final.
Anyway I was quite surprised by his strongly negative opinion of us "'Dont like your coach and your boys a no good" he went on a bit in fact
He was fairdinkum. He and Thomas still have trouble praising us.

Geez, I will never forget that game, I was sitting directly behind the goals on the second level and as soon as he kicked that football you just knew he had the game won for Geelong. We sat stunned for about 15 mins after the game, shaking our heads.
Which also reminds me of someone I always see shopping in a Supermarket in Essendon and that is Peter 'Crackers' Keenan he always had great pleasure in telling me how crap my team was, especially in the Rhode era. Still brings it up whenever I see him and I just tell him - well Rhode did one good thing & that is brought Adam Cooney into our lives.
The media types jump on and off the wagons so fast their heads spin, I take no notice - prefer to fly under the radar and just keep winning.

I was there at that game also Aqua only 20 seconds before that goal i think i pi55ed my pants with excitement when ozzie kicked the goal to put us in front with surely no time left for them to score. Was distraught after that match went to the hilton and got pi55ed drunk instead of my pants.

You should have reminded Crackers Keenan how his North Melbourne Kangaroos teams of the 70's had to buy their premierships !!!! What a loser !

Funny thing is, Billy Brainless did nothing all that game right up until the last kick either !

NAB loss to essendon, hmm how weeks ago was that. Let me count, 1, 2, 3, 4 --- 17 weeks ago.
Honestly what relevance does his opinion have now. Wouldn't have been the first or last one to write us off pre season. I like Billy, think he is hilarious and always seems to have a light hearted attitude.
I be confident in saying his opinion today would be different to that of 17 weeks ago. And i know it will be different after the Geelong game.

Tempo - make sure you have a game of golf after we play Geelong;) I didn't mind Brownless up until now - that has completely changed my opinion of him:thumbsd:

Sounds like he has some sort of axe to grind with the Bulldogs. Holding onto a grudge from the past? "Don't like your coach" might mean he's had words with Eade at some stage. "Your boys are no good" is clearly a ridiculous thing to say, and will seem worse when we whup the Cats. :) Maybe he's lost a bucket load of money on us.

No different to half a dozen posters here who prior to round 1 were writing us off - our own supperters!
Spot on Mofra.
After the NAB Cup game to Essendon this board went into meltdown about how bad our team and coach was;)
Would like to know his thoughts about us now though??

Last week on Before The Bounce they had a sequence of crying sportsmen on with the usual suspects Maxie in 2000 :p Riewoldt at the gabba in 2005 then they had Pete Sampras crying while on court in the mid 90's when Brainless chimed in with ''There's Sampras obviously not happy with his match''
Alittle silence then Dunstall explained that Sampras just got the news his coach was dying of cancer:eek::eek:Please remove this moron from my audio and visual medium :thumbsd:
That game (____en), I came back from skiing that day and tried to bust my dad's balls to take us to the game just before it started, and he didn't budge. After being five down at quater time he thought he was vindicated, but we came back.
And then that fat Rex went and kicked the winning goal........I rate it with the 97 prelim as one of my worst dogs 90's moments, and there were a few!
He's pretty harmless though, there are so many worse options that could be on the airwaves ATM.

One of the great myths of football is how Billy Brownless's kick after the siren was an extremely important pressure kick and helped Geelong through the finals.
It is a myth. The kick counted for nothing due to the strange system of the finals back then.
1 v 8
2 v 7
3 v 6
4 v 5
At the end of the home and away Geelong finished 4th and we finished 5th.
After Brownless goaled after the siren giving Geelong a win against us in the 1st week of the finals(Qualifying).
Geelong played Carlton (2nd after home and away)
We played Melbourne (7th after home and away)
So for losing against Geelong, we played a team that finished below us. For winning Geelong played a team that finished higher.
So, in theory, Brownless's kick gave us a higher chance of progressing through the finals.
In reality it didn't happen, as Gary Lyon kicked 10 the next week and sent us packing.
But it annoys me that Brownless always dines out on that kick after the siren story and how much was riding on the kick blah blah. The kick was totally unimportant.

Not important? You could've fooled me. Try telling that to the Spotless Catering sign on Level 2 that I wrote off as that kick sailed through.

like most preseason predictions they always look pretty silly went looked at retrospectively . eg many scribes had freo and saints top4 - and few picked dogs to even make the 8 . Billy was not the only one to write us off as others have pointed out . Billy is funny and doesnt mind sending himself up - an improvement on Sam on the footy show IMO.
