Adam Thomson
Greg Bentley
Damon White
Cockshell

etc etc.

Agreed........time to give the passengers their time on the sidelines. Play some unknowns. As you mentioned, surgery for those that need it.

Start looking seriously at the next draftees.

We desperately need to find a forward target.Time to give Willits, Cockshell a go me reckons.Looks like Sala is gone for the year :( I am trying to stay positive, this years gonna be a superdraft and we will get a decent pick, thats the only positive i can find at the moment.

P.S Now that toby is out, who is the scapegoat? , this team is carrying a lot of passengers

People need to turn up to homegames or the AFL will start to question us... thats first.

Cornes go have surgery... Chocco your an idiot for letting him play.
Thomson needs to play or he will go to the Crows.
Drop Pearce.
We need to fix up our backline... it's seriously the worst in the comp by that far it's not funny.

Couldn't question the effort in the last quarter but a question I must ask is why does it take being down by 5 goals in the last quarter to get a decent effort from the boys. If we did that when we were 5 goals up against Carlton we would've smashed them. It's all a mindset.

In the last 1.30, everyone please get a f__ken man. They managed to work it up to half-forward with a few kicks to uncontested players and that was the game.

I thought Matty Thomas was fantastic. Loves it hard and tough and a lot of the boys could learn something from him.

Few injury worries with Sal, Snr Burgs and Chad so a few young guys could, and should, get a chance now there is no hope for finals.

Agree on Pearce, not the type of player we need at the moment.

Our backline is a sieve.

I reckon we had more clearances than richmond but still got smashed? deledio, cotchin had no influence on the game yet we got thrashed.Lack of tall timber upforward is killing us :( ,try anyone, even willits, why not give them a go? the season is gone, just experiment. Another point, robbie gray has superb hands, put him in the middle.

Season was over a couple of weeks ago. We just needed to get through the "easy" part of our draw to verify .. what now??

* No more playing players carrying injuries. I don't care who they are
* Win the next home game. It doesn't matter who it's against or how you do it
* Give all the young guys playing for a spot next year an opportunity
* Make the hard decisions about players close to retirement
* Find a new ruck combination
* Don't finish 9th. What a waste

we're 2 years away from a crack at rhe top 4

drop lade & wilson - great servants of the club but too old + slow

send players who need surgery away for that

give a go to deluca
thomson
stewart
cockshell

forget white lonie etc we already know what they can do (not much)

we definitely need 2 big forwards in every game

It's '07 all over again, and probably not a moment too soon. Got ahead of ourselves last year and it won't hurt at all to go back to the plan.

Hmmm .. it will definitely hurt in membership renewals and at the gate, something we can ill afford. I would have thought that a home win has to be an absolute priority ...

Richmond are better than us in 2008. It's time to accept where we really stand in the scheme of things. We are close to a bottom 4 side on current form.

1-6 at home is just embarassing.

I would like to see

De luca
Thomson
White
Lonie (lol i'm going to be hated)
Cockshell
M.Motlop
Stewart

Maybe
Farmer
J.Hoff
Bentley

I want at least 3 or 4 games for each of these players.

I just want to see what all these guys can do if given a few AFL games in a row.

The bold have played a lot of AFL games but haven't played a AFL game in at least a seaosn each.

I just want to see IF there is anything left for White or Lonie.

Some other moves i would like to see.

Ebert and Gray to the middle both have great hands.

De Luca to come in and Lade droped and never let back (Brogan and De Luca ruck combo)

Don't play the Hoff for a while.

Once Cornes comes back from surjury (if he does goes out of the side) when he comes back i would like him to play CHB. I still feel we need Cornes at CHB, we played soo much better when he was there than when he just picks up cheap uncontested possies in the middle. He is better as a midfield but he is more useful as a backman.

Don't ever let Thurstans in the side again unless it's up forward.

Give Grew a go on the wing/forward.

Play Rodan a full game in the middle.

Try S.Burger in other positions eg. W,HFF,FP,HBF just too see if he isn't as lazy in those positions.

If they don't drop Lade play him as a permant forward because we really need tall forwards.

Give Thomson, Lower, Logan etc. good mid position where they'll get plenty of playing time eg. RR.

Try Chaplin at CHF.

Give more playing time to Sally, Boak, Rodan, Pearce etc.

Drop

P.Burger (old, finished, unless he can still be of some use as a mid, but i doubt it)
C.Cornes (Injured)
Lade (old, finished)
Wilson (old, finished)
S.Burger (lazy, get him some form in the ressies)

Also, how many more players do we want to play into form?? Dunno how many goals Morton and Hughes kicked in the end, but for 2 guys whos positions in the Richmond team haven't been secured this year, to kill us like they did is embarrassing.

out: c. cornes (surgery), wilson (rest), lade (rest), pearce
in: thomson, bentley, deluca, stewart

if p. burgers is injured then krakouer comes in.
if pettigrew is injured, wilbur stays.
if carlile is injured, damon white comes in.
if salopek has any hint of an injury (he's injury prone) then surjan comes in

so potentially
b: thomas - white - lower
hb: stewart - chaplin - surjan
c: boak - thomson - logan
hf: cassisi - tredrea - rodan
f: motlop - ebert - gray
foll: brogan - s. burgoyne - k. cornes
int: bentley, deluca, stewart, krakouer

not the best team in the world, but at least we'll get to see these untried player throw their head over the ball give 110% for every quarter and prove if they're worth keeping for 09.

Add to that J.Bowden hasn't got over 20 touches or 10 marks once this season and today he has a day out and gets:

New coach means a ruthless reassessment of our list, which is what is needed. I can see a whole bunch of players in that side that 1999 Choco would get out immediately.

We needed you today Diggers. On more than one occasion Tredders had hands on hips and his trademark spit while looking back into the savannah of plastic seats as if to say, "Morell! Why hath thou foresaken me?... I'm spewin'."

Yep :thumbsu:

I really don't think the club has any other options to be honest. I would find it extremely unlikely (impossible) for the club to be able to spin it's way out of this mess. Trying to sell supporters, sponsors etc hope for next year with the same coach & players would be a total disaster. It just won't wash any longer.

Brave & tough decisions required, and required fast too.

Natman

Other than the fact that individual and team confidence is now shot and the game plan in tatters and the small unspectacular things shepherding, running to support, chasing from behind etc, IMO the fundamental weaknesses this year starts in the midfield due to lack of strength, lack of intensity, clean extracting and skills under pressure - this gives a lot of free ball to the opposition and then it storms into the defence with ease.

The defence is the second part of the problem is that we have too many players without a natural defensive instinct and toughness, skills under pressure (eg Surjan) and plain ability to beat their man one-on-one - the only option left to a good defender if the midfield do not doing their job.

The defence problem is compounded by experiments with players like Pettigrew and PB - good rebounders when all goes well, but not in trying to stop a flood of ball into our backlines. In addition, our two tallest defenders (Toby and Chappy) are not gorillas and Carlile plays like one, but is about 5cm too short to go with a tall KPF - yesterday was a perfect example. In some respects we missed Toby yesterday.

I don't think the forwards are as big a problem - if the midfield get enough of the ball and deliver well, the forwards will eventually do enough. At times this year Motlop, Ebert, Tredrea and even Westhoff have done enough when served the ball. One obvious weakness that others have pointed out is the ability to apply defensive pressure when tha ball is being run out.

A good point - the last people to make that assessment are those currently at the club.

Would and should the club and Choco in particular, accept someone from outside to make the call?

portentous
22 Jun 2008, 19:46
Come on now-we all know that the answer is an outside consultant at huge cost to the club. It's the way of the world now....
