View Full Version : Port THUMP North

Unbelivable match. Port won by 107 points or there abouts. Its the most dominant ive seen port since the 1990 game against Sturt when port won by 148 points.
It was made more unbelivable that Trent Ormond Allen...the ex Adelaide Crow defender kicked 10 goals at full forward. Even MORE unbelivable is he had only kicked 6 goals in his career before that!
Port are without so many players that would make there side as well...its something like port have lost 10 players from last year, and also had a number of injuries as well.

Retirees/draftees from last year - Ashley, Northeast, Chalmers, Damien Brown, Didak, Thompson, Evans, Tregenza, Donald Cockatoo
Collins, Troy Bond.

Add to that, Port was without Carter, Bamford, Phil Smith, Phillipou, Robertson, Warrior, Roberts, Pooley, Sheehan, Fraser, Brosnan and Shane Bond, its remarkable!

North are in serious trouble. They have no talented players at all...and they seem to recruits old AFL hacks. I mean AFl players that werent any bloody good anyway. In the past theyve picked up - Craig Burrows (who took till round 15 to take mark in the year he was at north), Peter Mann (i think), Daniel Hargreaves, Adrian Mcadam.
They are in serious trouble, and it would surprise me if North won a game this year.

Port kicked 19 goals in the middle 2 quarters. It is the closest thing to a training drill ive seen. North went without a kick for about 6 minutes there at one stage, Port were that dominating.
Tony Brown was absolutly unbelivable. He had a large number of touches and was the catalyst of the victory. How he got dropped by St Kilda is beyond me. Johncock played bloody well in defence in teh first half...he plays a lot like Byron Pickett.

I have to say, Port have a lot of things to look forward to this year...North - well, the fact that they have under 1000 members and only about 70 of them showed up today, proves they are in a lot of trouble. And i doubt they will last the end of the year

North are officially rooted.

The only way they are going to survive is through a merger...

And then we'll be back to having the bye, when the NT team joins the league - joy.

'it would surprise me if North won a game this year.'

The funny thing is that North looked fantastic in the 3rd quarter against us last week. They kicked 10 goals and made us look like complete sh*t, still don't know how we won in the end.

Really can't see anyone stopping Port this year.................

I know, its strange that one. But port...it honestly looked l ike a training run in the second and third quarters. It was nearly disgraceful. The fact also that Port only had about 4 free kicks for the WHOLE game..and North ended up with about 3 or 4x that amount...its gonna be a long year for the prospect clan

Don't get too carried away everyone. Port have only played the 2 bottom sides from last year and both are very ordinary teams. If Ormond-Allen can kick 10 goals North should be removed from the SANFL. The test will be when they play Norwood !!

Thank god for North and Glenelg. That gives the other teams 7 positions to fight over.

Why is it that every topic on the regional board seems to end up with Blues_girl, Go South and Easty all abusing each other. Why don't you losers take your argument somewhere else and leave the rest of us who want to talk football alone. It has gone way beyond a joke and personally I'm starting to get really pissed off with it.

So the Sturts supporter have trouble understanding my request. As simple as it was I can see a Sturt supporter having trouble understanding that request. C'mon guys lets start talking about football. How has Sturt been going lately?, have they won any games?. http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Getting back on the original topic kids

A North Adelaide/Northern Territory combined team? Wouldn't that solve all the problems?

A most excellent suggestion, relocate them to Darwin! "Far North Adelaide" I guess.

I know they're up for a merger, they tried it with us once.

I wrote a letter to the paper at the time suggesting a new name for the club. Sturt - North Adelaide Footy United: SNAFU or .. situation normal all 'fowled' up. http://www.bigfooty.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

What was wrong with that Go South. It was just a bit of friendly rivalry. I'm sure people will have a go at Port if they start to lose a few games. There is nothing wrong with that its just a bit of fun and it shouldn't be taken seriously. The problem with some people on this board is they don't have the mental capacity to have a propper discussion without getting abusive to others.

Is the Advertiser going to be covering SANFL this year?
Some there seems to have an obsession with port power

I have to wonder, maybe a few of us should put together a special sanfl lift out section for those few thousand that actually do care!

Good idea. I'd be happy if the Advertiser devoted as much space to the nine SANFL clubs as it does for 2 AFL teams.

The problem is, the Advertiser says that the public aren't interested in SANFL footy anymore. I say if the interest has waned it is because of the lack of promotion in the print media.

A Catch-22 situation.

Unfortunately its a proven fact.
Hence the folding of the late great paper "the football times"
A very sad sign of the times, although I do believe the paper did its best to stay in circulation for as long as it could.

True, but people aren't exactly going to stop being the Tiser because an extra page of SANFL stuff is placed in it. We're not exactly flushed with options for papers in Adelaide are we :-)

Hear, hear. I could not agree more.

Those arseholes at Murdoch's gutter press do nothing to promote the SANFL. Little wonder it doesn't rate! The SANFL has done much to promote itself this year, with the result that crowds are on the rise - proving that there is interest in the SANFL, and that a little promotion can work wonders. Full marks to the SANFL for doing something to get noticed; Brickbats to the media for doing NOTHING.

Cast your mind back to 1991 when the Crows were formed. The media - press, TV and radio - jumped wholeheartedly on to the Crows bandwagon and left the SANFL for dust. The Crows were the media's wet dream: they could write a football story which would appeal to the entire town, instead of the followers of one or other of one single SANFL club. Furthermore they could import articles about the rest of the league from scribes in Victoria, rather than employ journalists to cover each of the SANFL clubs here. It is not in the media's interest to promote the SANFL; the cost-benefit ratio does not compare to that of the AFL. So the media doesn't promote the SANFL - which makes it less popular, and hence even less marketable. A vicious circle indeed.

What really peeves me is the way that the radio stations cover matches between 2 interstate clubs that nobody gives a rat's arse about, at the expense of the local league. I went to the Glenelg-South match at Noarlunga with my walkman, hoping to pick up a broadcast of the game. The Cows were not playing, nor were the Smears, so you'd think the local radio stations might be covering the local matches. Hell, no - 5AA and the ABC were both covering an AFL match - the same bloody one , thereby competing with each other. Where is the logic in that? Why should 2 stations both cover the same irrelevant match, between 2 teams nobody gives a stuff about, when the SANFL is screaming out for coverage? 5DN was broadcasting Sturt v Eagles, god bless 'em - but sadly nobody was calling the Bays-South match. Sheesh...

Right, that's my vent for the week. Who else wants the conch?

Actually the SANFL does a good job of getting matches on the radio. Watch the SANFL website because the stations change each week. The round 5 stations are set out at:-
