What do you reckon?
Worked well. Loved it.

Played a bit there last year mid-year, I remember three goals against Adelaide and a couple against Port away. Hammy put an end to that at the time.
I love him wherever he goes. Defence, centre bounces, forward - he's a great utility and "psychotic". He was flying through like a freight train when he took out Ling!

I love max anywhere, as long as he's there its all good as far as im concerned. He's what the cats are all about, i just love the bloke. He is a great target but i would like him on the half back line cos he's not the greatest kick in the world.

I wasn't sure what Robert Walls thought about it but then when he mentioned for the 34th time that he thought it was a good move I figured out what he meant.:thumbsu:

Rooke's the kind of player you automatically put in the 22, but when it comes to deciding where exactly you're going to put him you scratch your head.

You put him wherever the footy is going.

There is 4 spots on the bench every week!.
Put him there and he's like selleys no more gaps!
Looks like he has dropped 5 kg's over the last two months. Looks much fitter now and is getting his old form back.

He's a good example of when he plays in the forwardline, A forwardline player that plays like he's in the backline but kills it.

Didn't he just!
Max is an odd bloke. Got dropped a lot in his early seasons (even delisted I think, in '05, but redrafted, obviously), and I always had a soft spot for him, but when he pulled out that fifteen-tackle prelim against Sydney (IIRC) he cemented himself for me.
Regular season: love him as a forward. He's crazy, and he's a body threat. Finals: NFW. He CAN'T KICK. Far as I know, this is important. I do not want him kicking for a goal that takes us to the next final.

Walls was really shitting me with that one. He also says about 25 times a game how unselfish the guys are too and also how they "play on" at every opportunity.
At least we don't get a rehash of the Steve Johnson suspension/comeback every week like we did last season. Haven't these guys got anyone who can tell them when they are sounding like tools.
Robert Walls does mention the same old over and over when he's calling the Catters week after week, but he's not as bad as Malcolm Blight when it comes to masturbating over an useless single 'special comment' point that no one cares about except him.
In defense of the callers this week, they didn't really have much to talk about since they couldn't call the game with much enthusiasm. Hell they spent 5 minutes grilling Voss about what its like to be in a good team and what their thought process is while winning ... for about the 10th time since he joined C10.

I like Rooke in the forward line. I just think he adds that little bit more toughness and unpredictability; he seems like he would be quite hard to match up on. Along with Rooke, Chapman, Stokes and Mooney we would have to have one of the toughest forward lines in the league.
I can see Stokes and Rooke rotating through the forward line and the midfield; one always up forward, the other in the middle.

Max is a surprisingly good lead up target, has good hands and his set shot kicking is pretty reliable now.
It's also great to have his toughness across half-forward.

When he came steaming in to that pack and collided with Ling, my Wife and I were both sucking air and watching through squinted eyes.
I would hate to be on the receiving end of a momentum laden Max Rooke. We were surprised Lingey was moving about so freely so quickly after.
Two very tough players:thumbsu:

Max looked great up forward. Kept a lot of pressure in the forward 50 and played like a lead up CHF all be it undersized IMO Max may have found a new home for the rest of the year:thumbsu:

i dont agree with the whole undersized argument...hes listed at what 189cm...another 2cm and nodody would be saying it. we all know hes tanked up lately and his work rate and agression more than makes up for it.
hes the new Dasher...the ultimate utility.

Rooke played a nice game up forward tonight, i just think we need to put him wherever it seems like there isnt enough pressure on an oppostion ball carrier. All in all a great selection with one of our last rookie picks in 2000.
I think he's one of the better shots for goal in the side.
Yep, I think it was in another thread proven that he was our 2nd most accurate goal kicker.

Me myself, Rooke did good across the foward line, but i think he plays better across the back line. He is bloody a tuff player, and if he goes in hard across the bak line the foward player wouldnt know what hit em...

He's particularly valuable up there while Stokes is out. Neither of them will stop trying as long as their hearts are still beating.

I reckon he's good value pinch-hitting up forward. I remember that game versus Port where he kicked three in quick time. You just know he'll hit the ball hard and that's pretty handy when there are goalposts just around the corner.
I reckon he's a decent kick for goal. I remember he fluffed an easy one in the GF last year, but not before he'd kicked one from 50 off one step. He also kicked a nice goal from a tight angle either last week or the week before.

An interesting comparitive figure is Mitch Hahn from the Doggies. Was in the Hun today about how his forward 50 presence has added a great deal (even if the stats don't reveal as much). I think Maxy is in exactly the same category - a brick shithouse with a great set of mits, who will intimidate with his pure attack on the footy. I guess the only problem Geelong have with Maxy is putting him in a position where he will benefit the team the most. His rotations through the midfield are great and he definately gives a few of the boys a bit of confidence - but given our stock, he maybe better within the forward 50 where his presence and pressure do seem to have a more significant contribution. Also, i think Max is capable of holding onto a few decent grabs per game - much like Hahn.

Being used perfectly at the moment I reckon, alternating between the forward line and midfield.
Can play down back also if necessary. It's his ability to play so many different positions, and play them all well that's his great strength, as well as his ferocious attack on the footy of course; had to laugh at the way he shirt fronted the goal post after kicking that goal Saturday night, think he just enjoys hitting something and it doesn't matter what.

Just as long as what he hits isn't wearing blue and white hoops, thought for a moment he'd crippled poor old Lingy.
Strong mark on the lead. Led straight up the ground, creating space for the rest of the forward-line to work into. Pretty reliable kick on both feet, and fantastic pressure on the opposition.
Doesn't have to be used there each week but great to have that option.

Wherever he plays.....have him coming off the line at centre bounces to....ahem....'shepherd' whoever's tagging Gaz. If he cops a couple'o'weeks, so be it.
