Hi guys i know through our talent watch we have all spoken about Ranga Ediriwickrama, however i have read a few things about him and i wasnt sure what he would be worth in this upcoming draft if he wasn't a scholarship player with us and was to be drafted under the normal circumstances?

From a non Geelong supporter who knows a bit about drafting/talent etc, he said Top 20 as its going to be another decent draft, and most likely top 10.

all i can say is if that is true another steel for us since we will probaly have 4 picks in the draft and our last pick will be in the 60's

He's a bit like Rioli in that you can clearly see he has something special but his attributes stop him from being a top 10. Late first round pick I reckon so yeah a big win for us.

What's exciting about Ranga, aside from his name, is that the current list has a few glory years to go. But we'll see with these young blokes if we can create a dynasty like Hawthorn in the 80's. Much harder now with so many teams and the draft, but that's the challenge for the recruiting staff.

From what I've heard, he would have been around the early 2nd round pick mark. Wouldn't have been a Top 10 pick, although that's what alot of people said about Dale Thomas and Scott Pendlebury before Collingwood snatched them with pick No.'s 2 & 5 respectively.

Anything can happen come draft day but pick 20 would have been about right.

From Kevin Sheehan's report on the championships so far today on afl.com

Ranga Ediriwickrama – His first two games were outstanding, averaging 25 disposals, before a hamstring injury early against Tasmania set him and his team back. His has won 28 contested possessions from nine quarters, which still ranks him second overall. It demonstrates his courage and his attack on the ball. He is a one-touch player and a great reader of play.

He would be top 15 and i reckon he could squeeze into the top 10.

My understanding is we have first option to rookie list him. Not sure what the technicalities are for him & the national draft or him going straight onto the senior list. All i know is we get first crack cause we own him :thumbsu:

Taylor Walker was on a NSW scholarship at the Crows and they got first crack at him in the draft last year. They took him with their last pick, so I presumed it'd be the same type of deal for us with Ranga. We get him with our last pick should we decide to take him (which of course we will).

Why is Guru less racist than Dilmah? Isn't it just another nickname given to someone due to their ethnic origin? Which in itself implies racist intent?
