No one will take Lee & Johns and I think Lucas is an important part of our club & culture, so I would like to think he will stay...I have a feeling some other clubs might use a 3rd/4th pick to secure Laycock if he's on the table, his goal kicking is pretty smooth but his lazy habits would need to get stamped out of his game which can be done then he could be a handy ruckman, but I don't think he'll go anywhere at our club unfortunately...

If I were Melbourne, I would target Davey. Having the two Davey's, Naturi and Wonaeamirri in the foward line would be exciting and the tackles would came thick and fast. They could get him for nothing in the preseason draft.

Can't see anyone being interested in Laycock or Courtney.

I doubt you'll be able to get a trade done on Lucas either. There's a huge gap between what he's worth to Essendon and what he's worth to any other club. Essendon see him as a very good KPP forward who is capable of kicking 50+ goals per season and would be looking to get a late 1st or early 2nd round pick for him. Other clubs see a player who is past his 30th birthday and may not be around for long - at this age the decline can be very rapid and so he represents a major risk. These clubs would be loathe to offer anything better than a late 3rd round pick.

Both view points are valid - he IS a very good forward and he has been in excellent form for the last 3 years. However, he IS also the wrong side of 30 and could easily be on the slide to oblivion soon after being traded.

When the desires of team A greatly exceed what team B is prepared to give up, then the trade will inevitably fall through. It's not like Essendon need to offload him anyway - I'm sure they'd be happy to retain him if a trade does not occur.

I still argue any OP that includes anything on trading Johns should immediately be closed.
