I'm a Lions supporter and i'm going to Melbourne this weekend and am planning to catch the Lions/Melbourne game. I obviously have no idea about the MCG and i'm wondering if any of you could tell me where you think the best place to sit at the 'G is? Much appreciated.

In the MCC members, if it snows it will be empty we will all be off skiing!
Seriously, there will be plenty of room at the ground and anyone feel free to correct me but with general admission you can go at either end and you get a choice of levels. I'd probably suggest the ponsford stand (part of the new stand behind the goals at the city end), usually the opposition supporters cheer squad sit there in the front rows of the bottom level so behind them would be nice for a Brisbane supporter.

If the 2nd level of the Ponsford stand is open to the public I generally sit there, great view from there

Like to head down near the goals where I can give it to the opposition. Might be too close to the Melbourne cheer squad for your liking, especially when you are having your arse kicked:eek:
Get a red and blue jumper and sit with the Melbourne cheer squad and start cheering for number 36 like the rest of us.

Don't worry Fairley, there are usually plenty of places to sit when Melbourne plays.
Is this your first trip to the MCG? If so, I recommend you get there early and have a look around the place (as much as is available to the general public) because it is simply a magnificent stadium rich in history.

what is wrong with the cheersquad?
They're not bad people, just I find the chants embarrassing.
It would help if some of our fans are more passionate, but I prefer sitting away from the cheersquad.

Nothing wrong with our cheer squad... They are the most passionate of Melbourne fans...
I got nothing but respect for them.

Seconded. And you can check out the action in the Melbourne players section - oh look it's Moloney and Rivers injured again!

It doesn't matter, only about 20% of the G will be full anyways. Sit where you please, get the cheapest ticket too, I think they would have the 3rd tier closed, no point having it open.

Cheersquad if you want atmosphere but the wing is always the best spot to view the game

Cheersquad if you want atmosphere
Wherein atmosphere refers to toothless simpletons waving giant pom poms and doing *team name* clap! clap! clap! bollocks.

haha , i take it Supermercado you not a fan of the Demons cheersquad , funny in fact i swear there are two one on the wing with little blue pom poms and then the cheersquad behind the goals:D
it depends on how much money you want to spend, and where you like to sit... i prefer sitting as close to the wing as I can, gives you a much better view of the game
if you only want to buy a general admission ticket, i'd recommend sitting on the bottom level, in the southern or olympic stands... usually general admission seating extends from one flank, round behind the goals to the other flank... can't speak for the ponsford stand, but as that only provides seating behind the goals, i've never sat there myself...
if you're happy to spend a bit more money for your seats, get a level 2 seat, as close to the wing as possible... my melbourne reserved seat is on 2A, right next to the AFL members, and it's a fantastic view, right on the wing... level 2 would be even better...

I'm not a fan of any cheersquad! Gas them all!
I'm still waiting for somebody to post why our cheersquad is having a spat. Did somebody steal a roll of sticky tape at banner making night?

From what I heard, a power struggle of the proportions of Howard and Costello. But then, who cares. Our cheersquad should be atleast 28,000 strong.

Anyone who thinks that there's power to be found in a cheersquad is on crack.

I thought it had already been discussed on here.
From what i remember, the "rebels" (who sit further around in the pocket now) cheersquad disagreed with the "official" cheersquad decision to change their sponsor from Redheads matches to the pet food company they have now.
Not sure if you've noticed (check the Freo video) but the new sponsor has a bright yellow logo and the "rebels" don't like it because of the colour. Which i kind of agree with, its a bit stupid having red and blue cheersquad flags that are half covered by a yellow sponsor logo.
But i tend to agree with super, gas 'em all

Hey Fairley, did you ask this question of your own on our Melbourne based supporters thread?
If you did, apologies, if you didnt, I'm sure theres plenty of us who can tell you where to sit - we may not play at the G much but guaranteed theres a few of us who head to neautral games at the home of football.
FWIW, if you want to sit with Lions supporters, the Melbourne newsletter advises to sit in the Ponford Stand, M32 and M33.

Wow, what great advice. With comments like that I'm trying to understand why you even bothered reading, let alone replying, to this thread.
Needless to say, I dont know why I'm bothering replying to you're expert view but I'll put my house on it that there are less than 85,000 spare seats.
On behalf of both Lions and Dees fans - pi$$ off idiot!
