I think we need to slap a contract in front of Dennis Pagan pronto! Thought this article might be of interest -
http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=56564
On other threads it has been suggested we couldn't afford him. Thats probably right. But sometimes you have to spend a bit to make a bit and take a bit of a risk. Yet this would be a calculated risk. How often does the best coach in the business become available? How often does he have to ask for a contract?
I've got no idea how much he wants but I've heard $600k mentioned. If Plough was on $450k we need to make up another $150k per year. What would that be another 1000 memberships?
Is it unrealistic to expect increased membership and sponsorships in the knowledge the best coach was coming to coach some of the best kids in the comp spearheaded by a senior core group the rival of any? This seems like to good an opportunity to pass up.
Lets face it. If we wanted a super player it would cost us $500k per year. For just another $150 maybe $200k we get a super coach instead.
Seems like a sound investment to me!

I thought Wallace was one of the best paid coaches in the league. I wouldn't have thought that Pagan would be worth much more. According to Smorgo money isn't a real issue.

I dont think its going to happen. Pagan wants to coach at North and saying he'd walk is just a bit of fire up the bum of the North board to make sure they meet his payment demands.
If you were Pagan, would you go from one struggling financially club to another one...no youd go to Carlton where you would be guarenteed of basicly any salaray you wanted for as long as you produced the goods.
Make no mistake, with the financial resources Carlton has available, plus three draft picks in the first 20, they will rebuild fast and be a force again in 2 years I reckon. They have had shocking injuries. Still hate them though. (of course).
I am 80% sure Pagan will stay at north, and 100% sure if he did go, it would be to carlton.

Saw the interview and I thought they asked him straight out whether he would consider coaching the Bulldogs. Cant remember the answer but he didnt fall over and start laughing which is what I was expecting him to do, it may have been something along the lines of it being so few positions he couldnt rule anything out.
Yes I have converted to Paganism! However I don't see him leaving North on a money issue. He isn't the type. He may be a Pagan but he isn't a mercenary like Wallace has proved himself to be.
Just read this quote!
And when asked whether Pagan had ever felt stale with the Kangaroos, he said: “No, I can’t say that I have.”
“I’ve never been stale in my life. I get out of bed every morning and know the challenges that confront you and I’m excited by it. It’s demanding and you’re tired when go home at the end of the day, but I want to do it for as long as I can.”
Can we clone him?
Can we clone him?
Sure you can. In exchange for the first born male of each of your players for the next 100 years….Bargain really. :D

I don't like the idea of Pagan at the Bulldogs. We need somone fresh. Pagan has alot of old-fashioned ideas and what we need is someone with a few fresh ideas....like terry:rolleyes:

Pagan teaches his players how to win high pressure, highly contested games of footy. i.e. finals.
Wallace teaches his players how to run themselves wide and ragged trying to avoid a contest.

I can only speak for myself in that I have been bitching about wallace's gameplan for ages, along with some of my other pet peeves such as:
Eagleton is a wussbag
Harrison is a wussbag
Grant to CHB

fair enough if you have questioned him the whole time. Alot of people haven't! (i don't particularly like eagle either)
(you don't happen to dislike Garlick do you?)

I think Garlo should be our permanent crumbing goal sneak forward pocket
....no descision making or disposal problems... 1) pickup ball 2) kick thru big sticks. If Hunter could be taught to lead properly over the pre-season, FF would be his spot for the same reason. 1) lead and mark ball. 2) kick thru big sticks.
