View Full Version : ROUND 14 (a): HAWTHORN vs WEST COAST, DOME

For the 2nd time in 3 weeks the Eagles are on Friday Night Football in Melbourne to take on a Hawthorn side who have slipped a little from their early lofty standards in recent weeks. West Coast are coming off utter humiliation at home against the defending champs, whilst the Hawks are looking to bounce back after finding out that shinboner spirit still isn't dead.

Experience comes into the Hawthorn lineup as youngsters Tuck and Boyle make way for Croad and Crawford. As for West Coast, premiership players Wirrpanda (back injury), Braun and Fletcher (both dropped) are missing.

All time in head to head combat the Eagles have a 21-11 edge on the home side, having won 10 from 16 played away from Perth. This is the 1st time these sides have met under the roof, having met at Princes Park, Waverley and the MCG in past visits. West Coast have won 5 of the last 6 encounters but Hawthorn have won their last 4 at the dome. This is the 1st of 2 meetings during the year, with the return bout in Round 21 at Subi.

TIP: HAWTHORN by 65 points. Struggling to find matchups for the Hawk forwards. Glass with Buddy is just about a certainty, but I'd certainly back Roughead on Beau Wilkes or Jaymie Graham.

We will get hammered. The team we are fielding is worse than the Geelong game.

I will simply be happy if we can get back to basics and hit targets, minimize turnovers and show some heart.

The game is played at the 'G tonight, not the dome.

Good write up nonetheless.

This game is being played at the G.

However, i agree with your 10 goal prediction. Not sure if a half fit Glass can go with Buddy. Also, big problems back there for the Eagles with Williams and Roughead.

Perfect chance to get one back on a team that has dominated us for the past 10-15 years!

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the game where the Eagles woke up and showed the football world what they are capable of when they are on song. Only saying this as i don't think Hawthorn have been playing 100% to their strength (certainly not to the best of their ability as displayed early in the season) - i'm saying this regardless of the playing list missing due to being injured or whatnot.

It would be embarassing considering Geelong dealt with them easily, if we couldn't beat them by a similar margin (or just scape over the line), it might be a picture of how we'll perform towards the end of the season and in the finals series.

i dont think it will be pretty, and a 10goal loss would be better then what we had last week! BUT l'll be there, front and centre supporting! gotta be there when their down as well and not complain and expect an apology when it isnt pretty;) :)

Our team is a worse than last week. Brett Jones out really hurts.

I've given up predicting football for the year, so i'm hoping for a nice clean game with no injuries.

Agree. Can't see anything but a flogging coming up, but if we get our basic skills working then I'll be more than happy. Also, if we can kick straighter for goal I'm sure that will help lift the boys heads a little higher! 5.17 last week was just totally unacceptable!

if ever a player was going to come into a game thinking.... hmmm i could give fred fanning record a go this is out.

hawthorn are a superior side to the eagles, the eagles are completely out form, have just been belted by 135 points, playing away from home, with a further weakened side. too add to that the hawks, unlike other teams in the competition, are heavily reliant on two scoring options in Roughhead and Franklin, who have kicked 101 of Hawks 211 goals.

p.s. this is my attempt at putting the mocca on the hawks and franklin

Does Wilkes get supercoach points for the assists?

He's hitting Hawks forward targets better than anyone from Hawthorn. poor bastard, must want to just go home.
