View Full Version : ROUND 14 (a): BULLDOGS vs PORT, MARRARA

Coolrooms, ice vests and oversized fans....we must be having our annual trip to Darwin in the middle of the Southern Winter. But expect dry and humid conditions as the 2nd placed Bulldogs have a chance to go top for a week (Geelong play in Rd 14 B) against what appears to be a depleted Port side.
2 changes to the Bulldog side have been named with Tom Williams again injured, this time to the shoulder. Callan Ward's got a weekend off in time for School holidays as Tiller and Hill are in. But that's nothing compared to the 7 changes that last year's Grand Finallists have made. Quality players are out injured in P.Burgoyne (hammy), Chad Cornes (calf) and Steven Salopek (achillies) with Travis Boak completing the quaddie with a groin. Thomas got rubbed out.....and Brendon Lade and Michael Wilson have both been dropped, a clear sign that Williams wants to see kids although I doubt Nathan Lonie fits that category. Damon White comes in for game 50 after being emergency whilst stuck on 49 for as long as Andy Bichel was 12th man in the Australian test team.
This is the 3rd time that these sides have met in the Top End, and Port have won both previous encounters winning by 82 en route to the 2004 flag, and by 14 points in 2006. This is the 5th year that the Doggies have taken a home game to Darwin, and the 2 wins that they have are against Carlton (2005) and Fremantle (2007, it went downhill from there winning 2 of the next 10, hope that doesn't jinx it). Port lead the all time head-2-head 11-5.
TIP: DOGGIES by 25 points, let's see if sweat affects Port as much as rain does.
NOTE: It's a 7:10 LOCAL start, 7:40 on the East Coast.

Good start Port Adelaide - 12 mins in, 1.1 to 0.2.
Wow this thread isn't getting much love.
Slow start from both sides it seems. Dogs still yet to score a goal.

Johnson kicks the Doggies first with great body-work that highlights the absurdity of the hands-in-the-back rule.

Think he's playing up forward, haven't seen a lot of him, just fumbled a mark over the boundary.
Bullies getting more of the ball, but bizarrely Port Adelaide should have gotten more for their efforts.
Just as I write, Westhoff marks and goals, WB 2.3, PA 2.2, 2:42 left in Q1.

We don't seem to have the mental fortitude to stand up when the oppo gets a run on. Time for the senior guys to start showing some leadership...

Don't need more than a season's experience to be able to stick to your player goalside and not give him an easy possession.

No, Cooney wouldn't have gotten 34 if Kornes was on him!!
Seriously, there didn't seem to be a hell of a lot of tagging tonight, but maybe that was because the Doggies were just too good.
As everyone knows, 4 of Port top 6 ballgetters this year in Salopek, Boak, P Burgoyne and C Cornes were missing, so the Doggies were always going to get the ball.

Yeah i thought Rodan was good too. I love seeing him do well after Richmond got rid of him and keep duds like Oakley-Nichols and Tambling.
To be honest I didnt see K.Cornes 41 times. Maybe it was like Priddis and Kerr on Friday.
Good win Dogs.

Yeh Kane got 41, class player, but I'd like to see his effective disposals.
I can remember him causing 2 goals for the doggies from some turnovers of his.
