View Full Version : Gumbleton's best position

Although Gumbleton has not played much footy this year there has been a lot of discussion as to where he should play once fit. The guy has grown a lot since coming to the club and now stand at close to 200cm. Where do you think he would be best suited to play? I realise I may be getting a bit ahead of myself, as Gumby has played only a handful of games, but I thought people maybe interested in expressing their opinion.

I voted CHF, but if he can develop an engine like Richo and play a similar role to him that Richo has been playing this year. That would be awesome.

At this stage CHF. CHB can be Ryder or Pears. :thumbsu:

FB: Pears
CHB: Ryder
CHF: Gumbleton
FF: Neagle

That is an awesome looking spine. :thumbsu:

Think he'll end up at CHF, but I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see him deployed at CHB for large parts of next year if Lloyd, Lucas & Neagle are all fit as he undoubtedly needs games but the 4 of them down there at once may be one too many for the coaching staff, personally I'm not sure.

Only Lucas has any experience down back and it's too late in his career to move him down there again and Jay doesn't look like he'd make the best defender.

Anyway, the answer to the question is CHF.

not even worth debating

In the ideal world he would play CHF. But with Fletch leaving at the end of 2009 he might be needed down back.

What, not even a mass-debate?

OMG!!

He is injured...played 5 games and haven't seen anything to be excited about. Everyone is calling him a gun and a superstar after 5 games. And "if he is number 2 in the "superdraft" he must be good"

F___ Josh Fraser went at number 1 he isn't any good.
Brendon Goddard went in the top 5 and every one had the raps on him he isnt any good.

FFS..He has done absolutely nothing in those 5 games to convince me that he deserves a spot in our best 22.

Will be a gun player. Hasn't had a chance to show much yet. But will.

Best position is CHF. Blind Freddy knows that.

disagree with Ricky ^^^.

Fraser and Goddard are both very good players, people just expect a little too much from them.

Gumbleton has the tools to be a very good player in the future and did show some very good signs in the handful of games he played last year at CHF, he's not in the best 22 at the moment, but that is simply due to injury, and had he not gone down in the VFL a couple of weeks ago, he would be in the side to play Freo alongside Neagle at FF to allow lloyd to continue to play up the ground and give Neagle some support.

to add to the discussion, he's a natural CHF and just because he has grown to 200+ cms doesn't necessarily mean that he should be played in the ruck.

Like many I voted CHF but it depends on a number of factors:

How well does Darcy Daniher and Cale Hooker (and whoever we draft this year) come along? Who is showing the most promise in the forward line and back line?

How well does Gumby develop as a forward? Does he play better as a backman when he undoubtedly is trialed there?

How well does Paddy come along as a ruckman? Or as a tall ruck rover?

If daniher/hooker/someone else miraculous like Lee or Johns come good as a CHF AND Ryder shows big promise as a Ruckman, Gumby may have no choice but to develop as a backman. If Ryder is playing in the midfield ala richo, there is not much point going too tall there.

In summary: Far too early to tell, it is very much dependant on multiple factors.

It also depends if we go for someone like Watts cos Lloyd, Neagle, Watts, Lucas and Gumby in one forward line is way too top heavy.

I believe we could play 4 key forwards then that would be our limit.

While you are right that people are going over board too quickly, you also used to hang shit on Hille and claimed him as absolute crap and not a ruckmans you know what.

Lets let time take its course

CHF for mine. Was thinking earlier how much brighter our future will look if Gumbleton turns into a blue chip player. I implore the Bombers staff to try and get Gumbleton to play the last 4-6 weeks of the footy season if possible. Couple of games at Bendigo and then get him into the seniors. Read that he is 3 weeks away from running:thumbsu:
