Thank you.
Certainly gave us a scare in the 3rd.
Not that I really think the weagles want to win and take a quality draft pick...still good game and all the best.
Well played, good luck for the rest of the year. :thumbsu:
Just a quick question, who do you normally use as a tagger? Not that it mattered one bit in tonight's game because you won comfortably, but was it a worry that Priddis got 45 touches and Kerr got 40 touches?
If you were playing a quality team such as Geelong, you wouldn't want Ablett or Bartel getting those type of numbers.

Lol! If Ablett or Bartel got those numbers we would be relegated to the VFL. Scary thought that one.

Exactly. Eagles played better than the final margin indicated.

They interviewed Mitchell after the game and he said they were keeping an eye on inside 50s and things like that from those blokes in case they became damaging, but were happy to let them rack up touches in the back half.
At one point Kerr got a few important clearances and Ladson played him pretty tight for the next little bit.

Thanks. I don't think it was that "well done"...."done" maybe.
In terms of a 'tagger' we don't really have one, not in the midfield anyway.
Sewell can do a bloody good job, but is too valuable the other way.
Ladson often gets a run-with role, but is used as a linkman the other way, and to be honest doesn't appear to impact too much defensively.
Clarke is our best 'general play' tagger - he is so fit he can play the role of two players - he's especially good on the 'loose' HBF's (McLeod, Shaw, Johncock, Bell, etc).
Our gameplan isn't really conducive to 'tagging' - at best we might put more defensively minded players on opposition stars - but we generally back our guys to win more than they lose.
Priddis barely hurt with his touches, and Kerr and Cox combined for 33 possessions in our forward 50m.

Was a pretty ordinary game, both teams will be more than happy to have the week off to recuperate. From Hawthorn's perspective, better to have the slump now than in September.
Thanks Eagles fans. Looking foward to the rematch in 7 weeks time:thumbsu:. Let's hope you guys can get a few more wins before the year is out. Us Hawks fans sure know about doing the hard yards...

We usually have Sewell, our best tagger but unfortunately is out of the side with injury. he keeps players like priddis and kerr to 10 touches

One of the worst games of the year for me; never been so disappointed after a win.

Those were my thoughts. Sure we won, but it was a pretty ugly win. I think it was lucky we were playing the West Coast and the bye couldn't come quickly enough.

Cant blame the injuries anymore, we have lost our ways and if we cant come back after the break and play like we did in the 1st 8 rounds then we wont make a difference come finals...........

Ablett and Bartel wouldn't be left to get those types of numbers. Clarkson wasn't too worried about the number of possessions kerr and priddis were racking up as they weren't damaging and were mostly in the defensive half of the game. If they had started gathering possessions in the forward half they would have been picked up smartly.

Agreed, first time I have ever wished for the siren to blow when we are 50+ points up. Even though we won, I actually felt the same way I do after a loss. The last five minutes only increased my frustration, 57 points up and we play chip around - give me a break

Some people need to realise that there is more to our team than simply winning games.
There have been some quite obvious deliberate strategic ploys being practiced during matches - "real match simulations" at training only go so far - there's nothing better than the real thing to work out new tactics or gain experience with alternate styles.
Also, for most of our first nine weeks we only missed one of Sewell/Hodge/Lewis/Crawford/Bateman. Since Rd.11, we've been missing two (or more) of them. Coincidentally this is when our form has gone 'south'.
Any coincidence in missing half our first choice midfield to a dip in form? Our gameplan relies on winning the midfield battle - I ask you who you would pick to be in the middle when the game was to be one:
Campbell/Taylor or Renouf?
Sewell or Tuck?
Bateman or Rioli?
Crawford or Clarke?
Hodge or Ellis?
Lewis or Morton?
At times over the last fortnight, we've had Renouf, Ellis, Rioli and Clarke as our starting four centre square. I'd argue that's closer to a 4th string than a 1st - for example...
Campbell/Mitchell/Hodge/Bateman
Taylor/Sewell/Lewis/Crawford
Bailey/Ellis/Tuck/Clarke
Renouf/Kennedy/Morton/Rioli
or similar.
