What is it to cold for the Victoria boy's and girl's. Wish I could see the boy's in action every second week. Get on the boy's, finals are a passage of right. I'm heading down for the last round v Blue boys. Be good to catch up to Vic Hawk fans. J

Rubbish.
29K is a solid crowd V WCE. There would have been just as many Hawks there as at the North game.
Given what was served up (no surprise) the crowd was quite flattering.

Shows we still have some way to go. Then again, we're not playing great footy are we?

Um I actually thought 29k was alright against the Eagles.

Not the greatest but not pathetic!

For a Friday Night, it was pathetic.

Even the Dogs drew more then that to their home game vs. the Eagles earlier this year and we generally draw 10k more to Melb based games then them.

Should have drawn 10k more all else considering.

Bit embarrassing with 41,000 on the banner and 29,000 in the stands.

.

Whilst peoples have purchased membership packages there is a economical breadline situation which has developed at a fast rate particularly for families.

The West Coast being a lowly team is one that many fans may have chosen to stay away from considering tighter budgets these days. Whilst membership is paid up it costs a great deal of spondoolie to get to the game.

I fear this is a factor that will affect attendances until the world oil crisis has passed ... and that will not be in the near future. So expect crowds to be lower and it will be harder to raise over 40k membership next season. This will apply to all clubs of sporting codes all over the world .... mark my words!

These are our Vic based crowds this season

40140 - Melbourne (Easter Sunday)
39816 - North Melbourne (TD)
46064 - Richmond (Sunday Twilight)
76048 - Collingwood
41385 - Melbourne
46377 - Essendon (TD)
42508 - North Melbourne
29128 - West Coast (Friday Night)

AVG: 45283

Spot the odd one out.

Games West Coast have played in Melbourne this year

Vs. Collingwood - 52,948 (avg. 60,619 for Melb based games)
Vs. W Bulldogs - 29,927 (avg. 34,910 for Melb basd games)
Vs. Hawthorn - 29,128 (avg. 45,283 for Melb based games)

Fact is, given our membership and crowds (which were at 47410 prior to the Eagles game) we should have got 40,000 to the game, no excuses.

North played West Coast in 2005 and got 33,000, yet most of our posters bag their supporters.

Hopefully the club launches an investigation into the no shows and helps to rectify the situation before perceptions are formed, which stick.

Tonight was an ordinary performances alround for the club, a performance that potentially could be determental for the clubs prospects of getting future FTA exposure

Doubt we'll get many more FN matches next year after our wonderful crowd tonight.

41000 members is useless if they don't show up to the match. We're no better than the Dogs, Saints or Kangaroos if we don't get people showing up to these big matches (and yes, it was a big match because it was our first FNF match for the year).

With respect Phil, tonight wasn't a 'big' match, just because its a Friday Night shouldn't automatically draw more people through the gates.

Sydney is a 'big' probably 'massive' match and will have widespread implications for the premiership chances of both clubs, yet its played away from the spotlight on Sunday.

Our overall crowds (in Melb) are still better then Geelong, St Kilda, North, Bulldogs, Melbourne (and considering who we've played) Richmond so its not alarming yet, though its very disappointing.

The Geelong and Collingwood games will give a better indication.

There were about 7 Eagles supporters there and about 28900 Hawks. It was disappointing but you can't expect people to turn up on a bloody cold night to see an interstate cellar-dweller.

Yeah, but our 90,000 against Geelong and 80,000 against Collingwood will change that...

I thought it was a fantastic night for football. It was pretty mild, in my opinion, and there was no wind or rain to speak of. That said, I thought 30k was a good crowd against the Eagles who have just come off a 135 point spanking.

Fair enough, I was cold. Like you I was just trying to say that I thought it was about as good a crowd as could be expected. I know plenty of Eagles fans whi didn't come because they're pretty average atm. There was a lot of Hawk support which is all you can ask for. There'll be plenty there come Round 17.

35k I would have accepted. 38k was my target. The bottom line is, if we don't get the crowds and produce the sort of footy the public want to see then we can't whinge about lack of prime-time games and tv exposure and draws etc. Turn up, support the boys and prove that we are a top team. Until then, we are middle of the road as far as being looked after by the AFL!

Now someone please pass me a beer!

Consider yourself disowned. If you are a Melbourne based, even Victorian based member, you should be there fullstop. I remember going to 19 games in 2004 and seeing 3 wins. There is no selectiveness with which games I choose. I go whether I expect a win, thrashing or draw, in rain, hail or shine. I am not the benchmark for other Hawks supporters by any means, but if there is a game in your city, you should be there no excuses. The above comments just aren't acceptable.

The MCC and AFL Members were practically empty. I thought the Southern Stand looked alright.

Did anyone get the "pleasure" of sitting next to this "lady" that screamed through the game? "TACKLE!", "KICK IT!".............Bloody hell.

Well said. Last night was a good night for footy.

Whilst 30,000 was a bit low we couldn't have expected any more than 35,000. A Friday night game at the 'G' against a team that had just been polaxed at the start of the school holidays.

Perhaps next year we can play the Eagles in Tassie and the Dogs at the 'G' on a Friday night.

How many Tasmanian/Interstate/Regional Victorian members do we have? I'd hazard to guess at least 5,000. If your going to have a go at members not turning up to games, at least direct your criticism to members who can actually get there.

36,000 Victorian members compared a crowd of 29,000, on a Friday night vs an Interstate team which is 15th on the ladder coming off a massive flogging last week playing crap footy. That's actually not that bad when you look at it properly.

.

Cold nights in Melbourne. The high sales of entertainment units such as the Sony Bravia 52" HD TV combined with hard disk recorder and other high tech components with features such as instant playbacks, pictures from different angles at the ground on command and so on will eat into crowd attendances despite the holding of membership tickets.

For me there is nothing like being at the game and one can go home after the game and tinker around with all those functions on the home entertainment unit recorder but with some people on a cold night it will be 'geez don't risk the freeze' and go for staying at home by the warm fire side to enjoy the game all in the living room.

Okay you might be right in thinking I'm crazy by writing this. But it will happen all the more with high tech high definition screens and supporting equipment becoming available. This is just another battle confronting clubs in future sales of memberships.

That crowd was pathetic. Not just numbers but no cheers. no chants. Remember the players lift guys/girls when the noise level rises. Keep this is mind when we go on about players intensity.
