Bloody hell, this guy is a champion.

Last night we looked soft and uncommited when he was off in Q3. As soon as he came back on in Q4 we lifted, he actually brought other players into the game and players around him seemed to lift.

If this guy gets 22 games together in 09 he will win the Brownlow next year.

This is why I was critical of him not getting the captaincy. We all know that Hodge is one of the best on field leaders in the game but Sam Mitchell needs to have more of a presence on field. I don't see Mitchell pointing the finger, I never see him talk and sometimes I don't notice him for a long period in time. He is a fantastic player. I believe it is in him to do this. Come on Mitch.

I noticed Hodgey going back on and the dynamics of the game changing straight away.
He came back on for the last couple of minutes in the 3rd quarter and laid a heavy bump on one of the Eagles (reminding everyone around he was back on) and then in the first bit of the last quarter, lit the game up for about 10 mins where he kicked those 2 quick goals and was in everything. Inspirational (again!):thumbsu::thumbsu:

Whatever the future success of our club is Hodge will be the key. Is the leader, is the game breaker and the heart of our club!

They said on the radio he sat out virtually the whole 3rd quarter.
Anybody know why?

He is our most important/most valuable player IMO. The difference he makes when he's on the ground, he's just amazing. We look like a different team when he's on. We can take some positives out of last night, Hodge's sheer brilliance is one, Roughy's BOG performance is another (might have been the best game he's ever played).

I'm thinking that we're very much a work in progress. I'm of the view that we are currently the 4th best team in the comp. But, if Roughy and Buddy consistently play their best; and we can get our full midfiled on the ground all at once... we can be the best.

He had some Calf muscle tightness through the 2nd quarter. They showed him getting it worked on, stretches etc on the boundary. I imagine that's what keeped him off the field for the 3rd.

On another note, he’s now kicked 12 goals straight in his last 5 games compared to 3 goals 7 in his previous 5 games. That’s a good effort.

hodgey is up there with the top few players in the league has really played a bad game this year bar against the kangaroos early in the season. his hardness at the ball and all the little things he does is great and he wins 20+ possies every week and manages to kick a few goals as well. he is one of the keys at hawthorn

There is no question Luke Hodge would make a great captain. He is a brilliant leader and has the support of his fellow players.

Sam Mitchell is a great leader in his own right. He was given the job because he has some great all-round attributes that made him the best man for the job. We only see Hodge on the field. I have no doubt that Mitchell is better at the planning and research that is so necessary in today's game.

Hodge is more of a player's captain. Mitch is more of a coach's captain. I've no doubt Mitch more than makes up with his off-field attributes. He is a scholar and a hard worker. The sort of guy whom the off-field dutires won't tire out.

I think things are better as it is. It keeps Hodge fresh to do his leading on the field. And it keeps Mitch focussed.

Hodge provides the spark. Mitch is the wick that keeps the candle burning. You need both to make a great team.

Saw him walking along the boundary line barking instructions at the players while he was off the field with that injury . . . great stuff. Hopefully will turn to coaching after his career.
