Is it terminal or merely aberrant?

Last 12 inns 209 runs @ 17.41, SR 68.52

His career average is a lot more impressive.

He's just a bit out of touch, no big deal.

He'll bounce back soon.

That includes his ton against India does it not?

To think if you take that out it would probably drop to around 10.

They wouldn't drop him if he didn't make any more runs for the series as he's the captain (I think that always protects a player from being dropped to an extent) but I think he'll play very well in India.

Any reason for using 12 innings as a sample size?

How many centuries has he scored in his past 15 innings?

he's always been pretty damn overrated, best batsman after the Don etc etc. People are expecting too much. It's not surprising to me that, upon facing some decent bowling he has struggled.

Yeah, I agree. He's an overated hack. Everybody has 10,000 runs and 35 test centuries. He really sucks. :thumbsu:

HAHAHAHHAHAHA

You reckon the windies are decent bowling?

im not saying he isn't any good. he's very good infact, but not great. and that's what people have been claiming over the last couple of years, during the purple patch he was having. fact is, this purple patch didn't even last for half the period of time that tendulkar and lara spent at the top of the batting tree. so considering he has been rated alongside those two, and some have even gone beyond that...yes he has been overrated.

haven't really got to see much of them of late, as i dont have fox. but it seems you are implying that they are worse than decent. ponting has come into this tour on the back of some poor performances, his rut hasn't started here, it was since before the CB series. but it further proves my point, doesn't it? he has failed to recapture his old touch against a bowling attack that isn't even rated decent.

So basically your saying a 6 month period of average scores for Ponting over-rules the best part of 5 years of batting when he was TOP OF THE TREE.

Ponting blasted a 150 run century in the first test and then scored a couple of 50's, Ponting has been in good form.

In the last one day game he scored a 50.

This thread is a myth.

People expect this guy to hit a ton nearly every match.

didnt one of those 5 years include a whole year (2004) without a test ton? im pretty sure rahul dravid was in a rich vein of form around that period that would've put him at the top for the year. jacques kallis was probably thereabouts as well.

yeah, he made a 150 but the ponting of say, 2006, would've scored a lot more, especially against the windies (going by the impression you've given me of their bowling attack). had a couple of starts but didn't carry on which he did before he got into this rut.

Ponting in 2004 still had an average over 50.

Ponting scored 156 in the first test.

Was still one of our best batsmen.
