View Full Version : Huge crowd, dud game
Those 95,000-ish fans who turned up to the G today have been getting a pretty poor display of footy. It doesn't help that it's Richmond and Carlton out there, 10th vs 11th and their ladder positions are flattering them based on the game so far.
It didn't help that both coaches went ultra-defensive from the get go, putting men behind the ball at both ends. A combined score of 7.15 as I write this also indicates a less than impressive set of skills on display - admittedly a lot of rushed behinds, but that underlines poor delivery into forward lines.
Let's hope it's a close finish at least, because the start hasn't been great.

After what we saw last night I would imagine that a Hawthorn supporter would be well qualified to tell us when teams are playing rubbish football.
Maybe all the Hawks fans who didn't turn up last night went today.

Nah, they're all at Box Hill City Oval watching their VFL team get done by the bottom of the ladder team :thumbsu:

You're just jealous that the Hawks are not as well supported. Get over it Hawks supporters!!!!!

I've seen a lot worse games we've played in.
At least it's between two up and coming teams who do put bums on seats unlike your mob.
A successful Blues and Tiges = a very healthy competition :thumbsu:
Why are Hawk supporters so jealous of everything and everyone lol

Well the OP has egg all over his face now.
This is a fantastic game to watch.
Just for Hawks fans, you don't have a monopoly on exciting kids. There's some really exciting youngins playing on both sides today :thumbsu:

So far, this has been one of the best games of the year, juxtaposed with one of the worst threads of the year. ;)

I think Hawk supporters are jealous because our jumpers look better than theirs hehehe! :thumbsu:

I didn't think this was a dud match even at the beginning when they were butchering opportunities.
Two teams going hard, running hard, competing hard. Great kids. I love it.

The game has improved after half time, agreed. It needed to, the first half was shockingly bad.

Bit rough M0nty. Reckon it has been pretty entertaining. Wish St.Kilda played as exciting a game as Carlton or Richmond are today.

Might want to wait more than 5 minutes before you make judgments on a match, this game is awesome, should be a great last quarter.

Huge crowd- 100% right, dud game- 100% incorrect

Yawn
Vs. Melbourne
Hawthorn - 40141, 41385 (40763)
Carlton - 46787
Richmond - 27348
Vs. North
Hawthorn - 39816, 42508 (41162)
Richmond - 39292
Vs. Collingwood
Hawthorn - 76048
Carlton - 77873, 80310 (79091)
Richmond - 70801
Vs. Essendon
Hawthorn - 46,577 (Sell out)
Carlton - 64388, 59912 (62150)
Richmond - 60333
Richmond
Hawthorn - 46064 (Biggest Sunday Twilight for the year)
Carlton - 72522 (Opening game of the season)
Isn't it funny to see everyone come out of the woodwork on the back of one poor crowd in 2 years.
Even 'mighty' clubs like Essendon and Carlton occasionally draw disappointing crowds (33k vs. West Coast, 28 vs. Port and 28k vs. Fremantle)
Granted the crowd was shit, but what about the others?
In fact, for a club with supposedly no support (even though its drawing around 47k to Melb based games and has 41k members) we're doing alright in comparison to the giants.

I watched the first quarter and it was one of the softest quarters I've seen. Must have been a record for least number of tackles. Looks like it's improved now, though.
I've seen a lot worse games we've played in.

Which is why we've outdrawn you in every game this season
Though I've got to admit, this game sure as hell beats last nights trainwrek.
We should have a rolling draw, so that we can have the more attractive games such as today's game on the big stage, while the mockbusters like last night can be played on Sunday's away from general viewing.
Vs. North
Hawthorn - 39816, 42508 (41162)
Richmond - 39292
We have a fairly good rivalry going with the Hawks now. North vs Richmond as a spectacle has about as much appeal as watching documentaries on baby seal clubbing.
I think once the Tigers extract the digit they will bring more people to games than Collingwood or Essendon.

You mean the infamous 'Eueraka' Game?
Interestingly we only drew 900 more people to the 2 games against North (Saturday's) as opposed to the 2 games against Melbourne (Sunday's)

I think it will take time to develop the concept, perhaps a bit of advertising wouldn't hurt.
Third quarter was good footy, second quarter was okay, but first and last quarters were shizen.
Trying to deflect from the 4 quarters of bad football we saw last night??? ... Hawk supporter M0nty;):)
Another example of not counting your chickens before they ;)
before they what?
Second half was very good :thumbsu:
G I B B S
Tigers got pants in the last quarter but it was pretty entertaining.
I think there was 73k there today. Not quite the 95k that posters were eluding to earlier.
Reckon some people have got some lofty standards or just like whinging for the sake of whinging.
The game was exciting for most of the day.
It was a pity that the game turned on two disappointing events in Q4: that in-the-back free to Simpson after he threw it, and the shocking delivery by Tambling into the forward line after doing all that good work on the flank.

Stop trying to justify a stupid thread - the result was crap but the game was okay!

I reckon the crowed was pretty dissapointing......and the croweds are just gunna drop off for us for the rest of the season......half the people i've spoken to today are sick of the tiges not delivering when expected to
If we played a consistant 10 games of footy, we would draw massive croweds.......oh well
