for admitting that you can get it wrong as well.

"I take responsibility for the first quarter. They misconstrued some instructions that made us seem hesitant and unaccountable at times," Lyon said.
"They are a very coachable group, almost over-coachable so we are trying to strike that balance. It reminded me of the first quarter against Port Adelaide, I was really disappointed with what we dished up to our fans … that isn't the footy we want to play but it didn't take much adjustment."

I've been one of Ross Lyon's biggest detractors... particularly for not admitting his own errors. But, hopefully, he's turned around a corner and proven doubters like me wrong (I am still reserving my judgement, but the win was special in more ways than one).

Hopefully, this will bring a very long streak ;) (of bad football) to an end. I definitely approve his coaching in the last 3 quarters of the game against North.

The players have looked confused for months, so not sure what would have been said to confuse them more.

Our forward structure was appauling again. Allen was OK, but Chucky was very very ordinary. Was surprised McEvoy got dropped and he would have either been the forward we were looking for or allowed Kosi to stay in the forward 50.

North could have put us away in the third but missed some easy shots, including from Harvey, Riggio and Campbell. We would have been having different discussions right now if North had of done the job.

I continue to miss something with Gwilt that others are seeing, but accept I am in the minority (it seems).

Milne's tackling and efforts in the air were embarrasing, and I don't think he has learned a lot from playing the game with Casey.

Armo got another 47% TOG match which is killing this bloke's game (along with getting "Tool of the Week" on BTG which was pretty funny).

I still don't know why Birss can't get a game. Eddy is courageous and runs hard, and McQualter gives it everything, but surely Birss is a better player?

I like Sam F (or Gram/Goddard) being played up-field, but this has taken forever.

We have had frees paid against trainers for being in the 50 when there's a kick in. Now the I/C error. Are they confused with instructions too?

Kosi thinks he has silky skills, and should have been told already that at 197cm he should not be trying to thread the needle or kick left foot across ground.

Take the win - especially interstate - but don't get carried away with that.

Not getting carried away.. just saying we had 3 good quarters.... and that RL has taken some responsibility for the crap that was served up in the first quarter. It would be very interesting to hear what he says next time st kilda plays like that.

I am more hopeful than expectant.... you've pointed more than enough chinks... and I am aware of a few more... e.g. the ruck advantage issue, with McIntosh out, 10 more hitouts were won and Steven King was quite influential, Roos has one of the worst backline in AFL... and so on.

Briss is a specialist small marking goal kicking HFF, and thats about it. Eddy/McQualter etc can at least be rotated through the middle. Its a choice of having the luxury of not rotating him through the middle when we have Milne pretty much in that position as well

I agree Goddard should never go back beyond the middle of the ground, we have no long or accurate kicks in the forward half

No his not. He has done a couple of vg tagging jobs this year. eg Heath Shaw. So I don't agree with you about that.

Rossco i beg you leave that shit gameplan in Qld and bring the one after half time back to the dome with you. We kicked double the score of some of our matches earlier in the year in just 3qtrs,and away from home too.

Squizzy - fully agree re Gwilt... He has been serviceable but I am sure his spot is under fire with people coming back from injuries. I am still fairly happy with how he's gone about it tho.

What did Armitage do to get tool of the week? Was too busy drinking beers at this stage... And I'm sure he was too busy at that stage to know he got tool of the week anyways...

Re the Roos missing goals in the 3rd, we also missed two gettable ones through Kosi's snap and Jarryd Allens set shot. There was a 3rd but i can't recall what it was... Either way both sides kicked 4 points each in that quarter IIRC.

I can't remember the exact words, but he was at a School. The topic was "chinese whispers" and how a saying can change once it passes through a few people.

Anyway, they started with "Mary went to the shop and bought five apples and three bananas" which became "Mary went to the shop and got three apples and a banana" and ended up with Armo being set up by one of the little pricks with "Izzy Wizzy licked two guys". Armo actually read it out even though he was being filmed!!!

With the third quarter, you'd expect the little scunge Harvey to kick his every day of the week. Also Campbell - no brainer for him. Our boys haven't been able to hit a barn door all year.

Rather play blokes who give it all and bust their guts, simple. They are the ones who lift teams and do what needs to be done. Not saying that birss doesnt try however...

So the players keep misconstruing Ross's instructions, what a load of shit.

How many times this year have the saints played this style of game they dished up against the kangas for a quarter & half.

It was a very good win achieved by playing a positive game style.

Hopefully Fev misconstrues Ratten's instructions and rolls around on the ground again wailing for free kicks like round 2.

Also wouldn't mind if Setanta forgets which way the Blues are kicking (or even better, which team he plays for).

Actually, we have shown (potentially) high scoring football a few times this season - but typically only in the first quarter (e.g. both Bulldogs games, especially the first one, even the Geelong game).

The first quarter against North was terrible - much against the trend of the season so far. In hindsight, it was maybe a good thing that Koschitzke, Milne and ?? missed relatively easy shots. An even result after the first quarter would (probably) not have sparked that turnaround and change of mindset with both Ross Lyon and the players.

Let's hope that we can stick to playing the better footy in the last three quarters (or maybe even for four quarters...).

Surely Ross Lyon realises that the high scoring game plan worked so much better for the team and was more effective against the opposition than the super flood chip lotto style. Carlton's backmen aren't anything special and going one on one with Kosi, Riewoldt and Milne they could struggle. We exploited the Roos weak defense last week perhaps it's time to do the same to Carlton?

Another thing i have actually realized Ross Lyon has done is chop and change players around in positions that catch the opposition off guard. Playing Riewoldt up the ground, RICHO STYLE. Rotating Gram, Goddard and Chips through the midfield to allow them into the game and get their hands on it and pump it in long and fast.

I dont think we found the Carlton defence particularly soft in round 2.

They didn't look soft because our forward attacks were horrible, any team could have snuffed them out.

Gehrig still kicked 4 against them.

Fair to say Riewoldt is feeling much better than last time we played and it's showing.

The good thing about our forward line at the Gold Coast, was that it was not easy for the Roo's to get the ball back out. If we missed on our first try, we had other opportunities. This is a huge contrast to what happened against the bulldogs.
