If it comes to that, can they just wear no jumper and play as the skins (a real lady pleaser)?

The La Marseillaise is an epic call to arms and was the anthem of a revolution. Nothing soft about that.

Manchester Utd wore a grey away strip jumper and shorts about 6-7 years ago, in an early in the season English Premier League match against Southampton.

After having 3 goals kicked against them early in the match Sir Alex Ferguson told the property steward prior to half time to put out another away uniform they had on hand in the players dressing room. He then got all the players to change into them during the break and the grey united away strip was never seen again.

In the Port game it at least got dirty (due to weather considerations)

Maybe it should be the wet weather jumper (only).....ie when it's "pissing down":)

Wear it in any game and I'll spew.

I honestly felt like writing an open letter to the CEO on Sunday and still may do it. I will not renew my membership if they don't agree to lose that guernsey for the 09 season.

I just don't get it? We have what's known as the most popular away strip with the Heritage guernsey and the lighter red away strip yet they continue to pull this shit out! Thinking back, Melbourne wore their terrible number against us and look what happened to them? I believe they have gone through the same angst with that one as well.

White = surrender / or white maggot

They've already announced in the media that the jumper is gone after this year. So fear not Timbo.

Got in touch with the club to clarify.

We will definitely be wearing the "away strip" (Fitzroy red) for our remaining Melbourne games this year, i.e. Essendon and Richmond.

There is also no perceived clash for the rest of our away games (Kangaroos, Hawthorn and Carrara) and we will be wearing the regualr (maroon) strip for this games.

So yeah, barring a potential finals clash, that just about wraps it up for the clash strip.

Clearly not, there is a big yellow stain at the bottom.

They can't re-sell that!

Old Den

The latest red jumper is a better variation from the club jumper than either the Collingwood or Essendon efforts - the Collingwood one is so close to their club strip as everyone can see and Essendon not much better - please nobody mention the T word in reply - Carlton has got just as much - I am only referring to colour variations

What is wrong with a predominantly red opposed to a predominantly blue even though they are basically the same colours v Melbourne? - surely the main colours would hit spectators in the eye along with the white shorts

Adelaide wore their red jumper v the Lions recently - what is wrong, then, with the latest red strip for an away game in Adelaide?

Of course, the bottom line is whether the difference between the jumpers worn by any 2 teams is sufficient to separate them

So(excuse the pun)the burning question is - will the new away jumper be
happily accepted by the majority of Lions fans?

Do you mean the Fitzroy red away strip or the new clash jumper to be unveiled for 2009 onwards?

I meant that the Fitzroy style with the Lion but I know from previous discussion that it does not suit everyone - It may not suit every opponent to tell apart - Dogs and Essendon OK - Port OK - I don't know why we wore the white v Port anyhow

Who knows what the club will choose for 2009 - I just hope the big majority accept it OK - What if it is predominantly white?

We'd only be guessing, the only word we've heard from the club is that it will probably be a more 'traditional' design (I personally read that as no "new age" components like claw marks, gradients, and Lions bums on the back).

To satisfy the AFL's clash requirements, its going to have to be light in colour... so predominantly yellow or white would be likely.

I hope they go with a design similar to InCase's in the competition thread.

TheBrownDog i want your opinion.

in early 2007 there was a poll witch jersey is better, the 05/06 clash

or the piss stain white, and you said:

"The new one, by a fair margin.

Not a fan of 'the lemons' "

what did you think of the 05/06 jersey if you hate the piss stain,

Initially didn't realise how insipid the piss stain was in real life compared to drawings. I really hated the yellow one with the wraparound Lion and my ideal clash jumper was white based... so the newer one seemed like a nice improvement at first. Then I saw Power and Bradshaw modelling it on the news and realised how ordinary it looked, thus coining the urine analogy.

I would like to know the same thing. I feel our friend TheBrownDog would rather these jumper threads disappear for him to save face.

I, and i'm sure many like me, have observed TheBrownDog's, shall we say "over exuberant" condemnation for the white clash strip ever since he was called up over his profound love for such jumper.

It seems as though, in an effort to get back in "the good" with the cool kids, he has resorted to an outright attack whenever the words strip, clash, white, jumper, alternative, or urine-stained (hyphenated - still one word) are muttered on here.

Those of us in the know just smile and nod, and reminisce to a simpler time where, before peer pressure set in, we witnessed his true feelings for that revolting abomination of a clash strip:

I quite like it...

Dew went alright yesterday don't you think?
The main concern I have with Hawthorn is their lack of experience. I think this was highlighted in the final against the Kangaroos (who lost their other two finals by over 100 points) after the jubilation of the week before. They have also lost their captain Richard Vandenberg, Joel Smith, and Ben Dixon from an already young team, and although they didn't have stellar seasons, their on- (and more importantly) off-field roles were very important. The retirements have ultimately left Hawthorn with a very young list which is not the most ideal thing when navigating through September. I think Clarkson may have looked at Dew, not only for his skill and booming kick but also to provide a bit of an experience boost at the business end of the year.

One to watch: Mitch Thorp - was very much on Brisbane's radar in the 2006 draft so it will be interesting to see where he will play. He got a small taste of AFL footy in 2007 but may have a bigger role next year. It would be great to see him play a couple of the games in Tasmania. Stuart Dew is another one to keep an eye on. He may have a key role to play towards the end of the year as the Hawks charge towards the finals. We will have to weight and see (pathetic I know).

Yeah, he went OK. ;)
