remeber this?
i was at that game. the weirdest thing about it was the way the fans around me were all talking at quarter time (when we were already what, 9 goals down?). i distinctly remember one old lady saying "they'll have to play much better than that in the second quarter". it was inconceivable that we might actually lose. there was just an aura of invincibility about our club back then.

Yeah, I was at that game too, even though we were down by 69 points none of us guys thought we were ever out of it...
Great Game...

True that, he smashed them that day.
I think it was at quarter time I so arrogantly said to my old man, "we'll win this."

Hird getting poleaxed, then straight up like a 'cork in the ocean' and playing on to kick the goal with no fuss. The start of the amazing comeback. :thumbsu:

We were invincible back then. Great video. :thumbsu:
Jason Johnson at his very best :thumbsu:Best game I ever saw him play.
Of course we'll remember this. We'renever going to forget it.
Jason Johnson and Lloyd were so good.
How good was it when Hirdy hit smashed after taking the mark, but didn't make a fuss and played on to kick the goal. :thumbsu::thumbsu:
Also chuck the dvd on whenever I get the chance. I was only 8 at the time and went to the shopping centre with us down by heaps and heaps. I came back thinking we would've been smashed and saw we won.

I was playing footy for Doncaster and we got utterly annhiliated by St. Damians that day. I couldn't believe it when I heard it on the radio.
It's better watching that DVD with 3AW commentary. Rex and Clinton were awesome. Along with Gary Lyon. When we were steam rolling them in the 2nd quarter when we were just running through the midfield, they announced it as a goal before they kicked it.

Where can you get a copy of the dvd with all the different commentary tracks?
Where can you get a copy of the dvd with all the different commentary tracks?Try the EFC shop. Or ebay.
Was at the match. I still have my ticket in the sleave of the DVD! :D
I went with about 4 Roos supporters who were all giving it to me. I calmly told them that we'd come back and win and they'd all be rather disappointed. Well, we won. I always knew we would. They were preety peeved at half time!
Jason Johnson at his very best :thumbsu:
Lloyd at his very best.
Sheedy at his very best.

Spot on. Some of the best commentary I've heard. :thumbsu:
Love the commentary as well.
I remember i was working that day, and didn't do anything in the second quarter since i was listening to it on radio. Great Day.
JJ was a star

One of the best ever games i went too, i still remember it clearly at the G. i also think we never recovered from that win, it almost started the downhill trend, i think it was the game we ultimately peaked and couldnt be any better

I think that took it out of us and we lost 2 in a row after that I think.

OMG I remember that match like it was last weekend :D
My whole family go for North Melbourne and they were teasing me at the end of the 4th quarter. That made the victory all the more worth it! :P

I was listening to that game on the car radio and I remember Dwayne Russell saying at quarter time, "If you're an Essendon supporter within cooeee of the MCG, come down". There definitely seemed to be something brewing, even though we were nowhere near them. Maybe he was just talking it up to keep it interesting, but something compelled me to drive straight to The G.
I got to the ground not long into the 2nd quarter and before I'd found my seat, Hird took that mark, played on and kicked the goal. Awesome match, but I think it sapped us a fair bit, to tell the truth.
I remember being blown away by Hird's ability to just exert his will on the game. Lloyd, JJ & Blake Caracella were also outstanding.
Happy days! :D :thumbsu: ....These memories brought (back) to us by a Collingwood supporter, no less!!! :thumbsu:
I remember on the dvd in the 3aw commentary, Robert Walls (err) said when they were 63 points up "If they kick another goal, it's game over". We kicked one, then they kicked 2? So does that count and prove Walls wrong again? :D

Absolutely spot on.
I remember that day so clearly. I was at home listening on the radio and even at quarter time when we were so far behind I just never thought it was over. I kept thinking "if we get the next goal we'll only be 8 down etc. etc."
Even when the lead went out to over 10 goals I was still thinking the same way. Get the next goal and we'll be a show. It was really weird. Usually when your team is getting smashed by 60 points in the 2nd quarter you concede and just hope the margin doesn't blow out to 100 but with the team we had back then I was still confident.
If you've got the dvd go to the part when we hit the front for the first time in the last quarter, turn the volume up really bloody high and listen to the roar! It's awesome :thumbsu:

That was the best 10 minutes of my day. :D
one of my best days at the G. Living in Sweden now and I use this dvd as an intro to AFL for the swedish guys we convince to come down for a kick.
Craig Hutchison is a better commentator than he is Journo.
Jason Johnson at his very best :thumbsu:
Matty Lloyd wasn't too bad either, especially in that 2nd quarter when the comeback was on. He and JJ were unstoppable!

Two things from that day.
1. Jason Johnson, absolutely magnificent.
2. Standing room Punt Rd End, that joint lifted, I lifted. I`ll always say that the more we`re down, the more I`ll scream , shout & support the boys. If we`re pumping a team I`ll sit back and smoke a pipe. It was like a jungle that day, believe it or not I had a norf fan going on and on about "all of Essendon`s (how can I put it nicely ?) Indigenous footballers" Absolutely disgraceful this bloke all I could say was " Hey ____wit, you need a history lesson, norf is the reason for showing us the way for Aboriginals" complete disgrace that bloke. Funny how I never saw him after half time.
There were fights, songs, drinking, nudity, police threats, security threats, crowd surges, blood spilt, marriage proposals and a comeback from 69 points down.
You will always be our little brother norf , like it or not we part own you.
did i hear huddo, or do my ears deceive me?
yep huddo was commentating that day
I own the dvd good game, but not my favorite dons win. I loved 1984 grand final better ... and the pass from watson its a gem and big roger merritts mark awsome.
But my number one favorite dons win 1993 semi verses adelaide, the first half you did my sides trick showing up and thinking you had it won, It meant those guys had to play the game of their lives to win the game and they did. Mr Long you are a champ
