I thought my post below was worth highlighting again just to get a bit more comment. Thoughts on Milky???

"Cringed when I saw Thornton in the squad.

When doesn't this guy handpass to someone under pressure?

He looks good when he's running the ball out of defense, but a lot of the time he seems to run himself into trouble then handpasses to someone in a worse situation than himself.
Result = turnover."

I used to be a Thornton fan - but now I almost spew when I see his name in the team.

Balance up his one or two runs from defence per game with the multitude of ferk-ups he provides... and we have nothing short of a dead-set liability getting a game each week. :(

Watch Roger Hayden,he does the same thing.Runs so far then gets into trouble and handballs to the nearest Purple guernsey.

That's a bit rich. Just to compare those two is ridiculous.

I think it says alot about the state of the list when a guy like Scotty Thorton is getting a game. If you look at who played on the weekend and the rest of the list, i can't see who i would have replaced scotty.

I am not comparing,I am just stating the truth.People have a go at Thornton over this yet fail to see that one of our so called super stars does exactly the same thing yet no critisism.
I agree that Thornton is never going to be the answer to out problems butas it turned out.we had no option, other than to play him on the weekend, with McPharlin and Johnson out.

Hayden when he gets into trouble usually manages to get out of it. That's one of the biggest things he has going for him. He's twice the player (at least) that Thornton is.

But the defense does seem to have a lot of trouble at times getting the ball out, particularly in the final quarter of matches. Is that a defense problem though or are there no leads to kick too on the wing? Maybe they don't have the confidence to kick to these players.

Agree with all of this fat wombat. I think part of it is also lack of communication from teammates.

Scott Thornton reminds me of Forrest Gump.

Alot of players do it, across a variety of teams but no-one does it with the regularity of our Thornton.

Milky definately isn't in our best 22. If he is then we are in more trouble than I thought!

"If he starts kicking more, he'll be a very handy player for us"

I probably first made that comment 2-3 years back, i think he's kicked it three, maybe four times since then. Total. The run out of defence he provides is great, the handballs to a stationary player 0.047 seconds away from being tackled are terrible.

If Scotty kicked it long into our forward line every so often, not only does it put the opposition defence under immediate pressure, it also gives our defenders (Scotty included) more time to get back. Josh Head made several errors on the weekend, they rarely cost us though and twice we had a 1-on-1 marking contest inside 50 which resulted in a goal.

Certainly there are times when a handball is a better option, rarely does the Mascot get this right though. To bring this back to the completely ridiculous Hayden vs Thornton debate, the biggest difference would be their decision making.
