I think it was in the age it said this - now i dont think we will get him with our first round pick:(
Thats a big shame!
Although the fact hes only yr11 now and will probably be completing school next year may put off the first pick-holder from drafting him.
Mckernan then :D

It was mentioned on SEN a couple of weeks back a Scout I think it may have been after the game where he kicked 5, believed he could very well be the number 1 pick.

I think WCE could easily take Naitanui, he seems more of a sure bet to turn out a star, and most clubs follow the philosophy of taking the best player available rather than what positions are needed (admittedly not following this got the Hawks Buddy and Roughead). Regardless, Cox is getting a bit older so by the time Naitinui is coming into his prime he'll need some help in the ruck, and Im sure Worsfold could fit them both into the side anyways
Everything you hear and read say that WCE will take Rich if available. They think he is the best player in the draft just like they would of taken Cotchin if they had first pick last year.
Therefore if Melbourne take Watts and WCE have next pick they will get Rich.
I'd say Naitanui is the most likely slider of the top group.
I think everyone will agree he's an awesome athlete, and *could* be a truely awesome player, but as yet, he's still a kid running around having a bit of fun and relying on his athleticism to make up for a lack of application and football skills ( neither of which are bad, just not 'top draft pick' levels ).
Teams with top picks want to be sure of getting a player who will be a good player for them for 10 years...In spite of fan opinion, getting a 'star' is more a bonus than the goal. Naita could be a star, but he could also fail to take that 'step up' and end up playing a dozen indifferent games before wandering off ignominiously after 4 or 5 years.
NB. Similar things were said/though about Franklin which is why he slid to pick 5, and while that gamble 'worked', many others don't (JON?).

who gives a flying ____ who is going at number 1, 2, 3 or 4, we have shot out bolt, so case closed. ;)

I've been saying that for a while now - the 'athletic, jumping' ruckman is pretty rare these days. Because of the pounding these guys take, you need to be incredible strong, durable and tall - a 6-5 leaper is not going to last (Jeff White is the only one I can think of in the last 10 or so years who has been any good at all).
Plus add the fact that he's not 'dominating' while playing - he's just there doing a couple of 'wow' moments a week - according to the paper he's getting about 1 mark per game!. No guarantee he will get better or bigger.
It's a risky strategy for the #1 pick.

Apparently he occasionally plays forward. I'd actually be more tempted to look at him from that perspective...That kind of size & athleticism would (potentially) make for a killer FF ( Of course, he'd need to be able to mark/kick straight).
That said, I'd be surprised if he slips to our pick, so the point is moot.

Spot on.
Unlike other sides who pride themselves on hoarding draft picks, the Tigers are all about winning games.
Well done to TW and the coaching staff for enforcing a culture of winning at the Tigers, not tanking for draft picks :thumbsu:

The best way to enforce a winning culture I would have thought, is to actually win games. Out of the 8 wins and 2 draws in the last 37 games and the only 'good' team we have beaten was Collingwood in '07.
This season you can't help but beat Melbourne, Essendon and Freo.

oh FFS....tell you what fool...dont know if you are connected to the club in some sort of capacity, but if you are, go back and tell them, that once again, they are showing us how ridiculous this club has become, by sending buffoons in like you to keep on the "well done" track. Let GM know that from the what has transpired over the stretch, couple with how he sounds in media interviews, he is the epitome of a nuff nuff who has pulled the wool over the tigers eyes for as long as he has been there. The clincher was the "olive branch" attempt, in appointing Freeza as Footy manager like 3 weeks ago. Not 3 years ago, but 3 weeks ago, why? because he is shitting bricks...i can see the smoke rising dude...and this from someone who has been patient with this brains trust....tell you what to...from all the brains trust there is one man who I want to hear it from, why doesnt the flea do an interview in the media to tell all the tigerheads what you are telling us? Then at least there is yellow and black first and foremost, instead of green folding stuff. ;)
watt on earth are you going on about.

aaah piss off, WA is irrelevant, no one gives a flying ____ about your state, all its got is gas and gold that we dig up and send here, and a couple of class mid fielders that want to come here, the rest is shitful. ,;)
it's a shame if we dont' get to pick watts...he's the best fit for our team i reckon....
i still think that if melbourne has the first pick they'd get naitanui..(i hope so anyway)...but as usual...the most touted kid always gets picked first as they dont' want to risk getting ridiculed....
i see this draft similar to last years....
Naitanui is much like kreuzer...touted all season and had a reasonable U18 carnival without blowing everyone away...
rich is much like cotchin....best midfielder in the draft, all class but has a quiet carnival due to close tagging by opposition
watts is a bit like cale morton....obviously a talent (both AIS boys) but wasn't talked about much prior to the carnival but blows everyone away at the carnival...
hence this says to be that teams simply don't just look at the U18 championships alone....
hence i still hold the hope that we can get our hands on watts.....the danger tho i think is port adelaide...
i think melbourne should still pick naitanui, freo and WCE woudl look to improve their midfield first and would be keen to pick up rich who ever picks earlier and the other may be forced to pick up someone like yarran who's also a local boy..(i think both clubs have been bit the the ass enough times by victorians wanting to return home)
hence port would be the danger team in this..they lack a dominant forwardline now......maybe they'll be put off by the fact that watts isn't willing to move interstate until he finishes year 12....
either way i certainly hope we finish lower than port just so we get the chance to pick up watts.....that's the dream

Well Carlton had 2 shots and couldn't beat Essendon this season, they are now essendon's bitches :p
Nth got whipped by Freo, and we saw what happened with Brisbane last weekend.
Proof that these sides can beat anyone.
Well done to TW and the coaching staff at RFC for ensuring that no other clubs has the wood over us, and ensuring that we're always competitive:thumbsu:

haha loving the abuse in this post.
If Melbourne finishes with spoon and gets a decent ruckman in the PSD draft(Warnock), I expect them to go for Rich.

Just watched some highlights of some of the U/18 stars - http://www.afl.com.au/Video/tabid/76/default.aspx
Watts looked sensational. Should be a gun. As to did Rich. Pretty sure these two will be picked up before our pick in which case I think McKernan would be an excellent pick. Strong and looks to take strong contested marks. With the flexibility of being able to play in the ruck. I'd be happy if we pick him. Natanui looks like an athletic freak but not once in his highligh package did he impose himself on a contest. Looks like he is more concerned with chasing down players to takle than winning the ball. Typical rugby attribute.

Gee we need this guy! Nobody else seems interested in chasing down players!
