IMO he should be reported twice.

1) Standing on BB's foot for 7 seconds

2) Fist to the back of BB's head.

I was about to bring this up.

Some of the things he did were just plain stupid and im happy that in the end he got caught for it in the goalsquare.

Ive always thought him a hard at it player but after todays performance theres no doubt his time to retire has come. No respect can be gained by playing like he did

IMO he is an old hack ****** who has resorted to niggling more so than ever today. Shouldve given away 50 at least twice going on Dan Kerr's "toe over the mark while king screams like a little bitch" incident.

Wanganeen got reported for something very similar in the Ansett Cup Grand Final last year. He didnt get suspended tho. He got decked and play stopped, he got back up and stepped on the heel of the Lions player as he was walking away...seemed fairly minor but he got reported.

Martyns was 10x worse than that and he should be suspended for it.

Dermie thought it was funny, so that gives a pretty good indication...

Won't be reported for either incident, though... and probably shouldn't be I don't think. 50m penalties would have been appropriate in both cases, pity they can't do those on video!

He's a washed-up old fart. Imagine if Wilson had a bit more momentum going when Martyn stepped on his foot, could easily have done a knee or torn ankle ligaments. And Frodo's 2nd incident, Martyn actually followed that through by landing on Wilson's head with his elbow. But Wilson had the last laugh, 5 goals to his name, and Martyn wasn't near him on any lead.

And people say Fido is dirty

Whatabout Martyn dropping the knees into Wilson ? McKernan lost a Brownlow for a similar thing.

I like Micky Martyn.

He now has some real limitations in his game, and he's willing to do anything it takes to get the job done.

Yep he did that just after he had finished stomping on Wilson's ankle. To actually lift his other foot of the ground as to get all his weight on Wilson's ankle was ****ing pathetic!

If he doesnt get suspended, it's a ****ing joke. Wilson certainly had the last laugh though. Surely Martyn's last season.

The reaction of the commentary box to that incident today was poor to say the least. It seemed because it was a 'character' like Martyn who was involved that it was deemed amusing; admittedly Dermie does tend to like those sneaky tactics but the rest of the commentary team found it mirthful as well. There would at least have to be a query over whether that incident should be cited.

Anyway, well done to Wilson who stood up when the match was in the taking and showed up Martyn for the over-the-hill hack that he is.

Full credit to Porno Wilson for not getting sucked into Micky's mind games (pushing and shoving and groping in the 1st quarter). In the past (at WAFL level) Wilson would have given Martyn something to think about (Knuckle Sandwich w/o Mayo) but he just stood his ground and concentrated on the game.

Martyn reminded me of Montgomery Burns today - pummelling Wilson from start to finish to absolutely no effect. Wilson just stood there and ignored him. Instead of Dermie's giggling, they should have had a thought bubble with Willo thinking "what is this old has-been doing?".

The umpires failure to give 50 on several occasions was deplorable considering the softies of Kerr and Matera.

But we still beat all 25 of them, so suffer.

i don't think that any reports should come of MMs actions but a fifty at the start of the incedents would have stopped all of that

Sureley it's to do with public perception of what is allowable in the game. IMO trying to injure a player by standing on his foot whilst he is on the ground for 7 seconds is deplorable. 2 weeks minimum for that otherwise kids playing footy get the message that it's okay to do that.........and hear toe rags like Dermie actually encouraging it.

Exactly - Nathan Brown gets a $5,000 fine for a gesture. Where's the justice? Where's the harm? The standing on ankle was a particularly low act and obviously deliberate. Very nasty.

And - the Eagles won. Did I mention that?

I gotta admit, i agree with you all. Martyn wasn't what he used to be, but we have got a lack of decent tall defenders. Watt is crap, and McCartney needs to be in the side. Macca from what i remember even kept Wilson to 1 or 2 goals earlier without any of Micks niggling. If Mick retires like i expect him to, it would be Colby at chb and Macca at fb. Surprised Micks hammies have lasted so long too, i spose he realises he isn't as fast as before so he is resorting to other tactics. Ash McIntosh is kinda past it himself and he doesn't seem to use any 'Martyn tactics'Oh well, it's typical Mick isn't it?

But on a lighter note, i offer you my sincere congratulations over your win against us at Manuka Oval :). You have had a good first season under Worsfold and are to be congratulated, even if you did miss out on the finals. Good luck in the finals, and you owe us one for letting youi in ;).

During the game I was trying to remember the last bloke that tried to niggle Wilson, and it finally clicked. McCartney took exactly the same approach with Wilson, though not as feisty mind you. He spent the whole game with his forearm across Wilson's chest, with a little bit of push and shove now and then for good measure. He did actually provoke a response though, unlike Mick, as Wilson returned the affection by caressing his pectorals much to the delight of the Subi crowd.

In essence though I dont think the niggle was a factor in McCartney keeping Willo quiet, I think it was more to do with the fact he had more pace than old man Martyn, and just generally played him a lot better.

Kinda thinking the same too, goes to show that 'standover' tactics don't work all the time. And it amkes you wonder why Pagan bought in Shannon Watt instead of Macca. I gotta admit thou, good on Wilson for not reacting and letting his footy do the talking.

I am a North supporter who lives in Victoria but I was born and raised in WA and watching the once mighty swans at Basso in WAFL in the 70's and 80's.

The Wilson/Martyn duel was just a seventies throw back. Hard at it , crash the pack Full Forward against Niggling old style full back -Simple as that.

I love to see Troy Boy play though !

Troy ***** Who?

I love when fans do this. Did you ever see John Worsfold play footy? Or was all that acceptable because he wore the right colours?

I make a point to never bag an opposition player who might bend the rules, becasue you can be sure you have cheered on the same type, and have been amused when your team was dishing it out.

Either come out and state that no West Caost player has ever performed a questionable deed on the footy field, or shut up.

Difference is, Woosha was hard at it fairly, like Pickett is. He shirt-fronted people, tackled hard and ran in straight lines. Martyn's only intention was to injure Wilson, legally or not.

None of us are denying Martyn has had a great career, but what he did on Sunday was low. Even from before the first bounce he was hitting Wilson and pushing him around. I mean seriously, what was he trying to do?

Woosha was great. He was hard at it, like Mick is.

I also saw John Worsfold crack Carey's rib with a filthy rabbit punch after he had taken a mark, and was on the way down. I have the tape if you like. The jumpers were swapped in this case, and you are all up in arms. ****es me off actually.

I don't think anyone -- not even Chris himself -- have ever defended that.

Speaking of opening your eyes, how can you condone what Martyn was doing on Sunday? Even the most one-eyed supporter must realise that that is not part of the game?

Also remember Woosha taking out Glenn Archer at half back at Subiaco Oval (Subi Side). Now if any of you can remember that you would have to say that only one person, Arch had eyes for the ball. It was right at the end of your great leaders career when he had little to offer at either end of the ground. Wake up to yourselves Eagles fans. Also I hear no talk of the Matera incident on Sinclair. I do believe that on A Lynch from Brisbane got two weeks for something similar??

Of course he hasn't defended it. Bit hard to, no pun intended (well maybe a little bit ;) ).

What Mick did was ordinary, but is he any more of a mongrel or a thug than Lewis? Doubt it.

I had no problems with the majority of what Worsfold did, and I will not judge a bloke on a few incidents which were filthy, because IMO, he did what he had to do. I Loved Woosha.

I just find it hard to believe that this thread can be filled with name calling etc, when you have followed a team who had had it's fair share of blokes who have done much worse.

If Todd Viney did that in 2002 he probably would have received the same punishment as Lewis got (3 weeks?)

Wrong example if that was the case.

He still shouldn't have bit him. Knock his teeth out, and maybe kick his uncontious head in, but not bite him.

Seems like we have got Martyn and Pickett; WC have got Worsfold and Lewis; Saints have Lockett, Geelong have Ablett, Essendon have Wallis, Hardwick, MJohnson; Carlton had Rhys-Jones. If you have seen that Biffs, Bumps, and Brawlers video, you will find out most if not all clubs had their fair share of thugs.

Umm, as far I saw, Sinclair spent about a minute hanging onto Matera's jumper and pulling him back when he tried to run. The elbow was certainly not legal, but compare those circumstances to a d*ckhead old fart trying to break a player's ankle because they're too good for him.

I don't think Matera's action was that bad.

Too good for him on the day, yes.

The best he ever did was against Modra. Eyes for the ball only, he took on the challenge without a whimper. Modra was never the same player again.
