View Full Version : Headland??
The following was posted on Dockerland today.. Seems like obvious rumormongering, but just for once, I'm really hoping they know what they're on about!

Although John McGrath reported this news in The Worst on Saturday, my brother in laws father who works with Fox Footy said that Hedlands management have been in discussion with West Coast for a while. Their finalising now. Bugger, I just hope we can manage Chick after cementing contracts with Paul and Justin.

It has no credibility as its from Dockerland and i doubt very much that his management is finalising a deal with us while he's trying to win a premiership with a different club.

IIRC, duzza's the poster who got soundly bagged on Dockerland for praising the Eagles after a win this year - see the thread a month or two back.
Don't know if it lends any more credibility to the story, just making the observation.

My thoughts on this are as follows:
If Brisbane dont win a premiership this year, Headland will come to west coast.
Why ?
Because the fact he didnt play in last years would be amplified and he would thinking maybe the lions have had there window of opportunity and he's missed out on it.
Looking across at the eagles - we are the BHP of the comp.. Quiet achievers who have loads of potential, a great young list, and only improvement to look forward to. He may very well want to be a part of that.

There's been a lot of rumours and "my uncles swimming pool cleaner heard..." stuff going around, but nothing to seriously suggest he's coming over. He's had a great year, will probably be offered a $300k+ contract, and at the very least will play in a Grand Final. IMO we won't get him, just like we didn't get Black, Hay, Gaspar and all those other WA "stars" that were apparently homesick.
But weirder things have happened.
I know it really means squat, but wouldn't it be nice.....
Getting Headland would top off whats been a great year
Still, he's at least worth going for, whether he comes back to WA is up to him

The good thing about Des Headland is that his manager is Wayne Loxley. The good thing about Wayne Loxley is that he was a Development Manager for the West Coast Eagles for a few years in the 90s (94-96?). Loxley also was reserves coach for Subiaco and yes, coached Headland when he was coming up through the club.
