Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet
Thats probably the first thing that comes to mind. Didn't have a massive impact in the forward line but thats to be expected in...2 or 3rd game?
But what I thought was sweet was his HANDS. The kid clearly has awesome hands and demonstrated from my point of view he knows a thing or two about footy.
Hope he stays in the team heading forward because far as I'm concerned he's had a good entry into AFL similar to Nathan Brown.

didnt have a massive impact, but just give him a few games in a row to be able to really get into it
all the signs are there. he's also a great kick, not sure about range but hes accurate. i wouldnt be too worried about his misses
but if he comes on as a forward, what a bloody bonus - with rocca, reid, rusling etc out.

I think he was good, but a few times he stopped expecting a whistle/decision instead of just playing the ball, and both times it cost us.
Reckon there is some serious talent there though

I am a big fan of Jack.
Tonight, he showed that he has good hands, but there were times where he dropped some that he should have taken. His field passing was very good.
I hope he can stay in the team and get some consecutive games under his belt, as that is when he will relax and show us what he can do.
I thought he did ____ all
He showed signs.
If he keeps it up, he might even be allowed to speak to Buddy.

he deserved a match, but was a bit dissappointed after the game.
He played his part and didn't look out of place. He will be a good player, don't worry about that.
I rate him. Think he will develop nicely. Shows excellent skills.

He did well...if he was 3 inches taller it would be perfect.

If Gary Ablett Jnr had Daisy's contested marking ability he would be perfect! lol

I like him as a forward, like Rusling though he just needs to improve his ground level game when it hits the deck.
I reckon he is a much better kick than he has shown at VFL last week and last night, once that clicks he'll be a nice option to have.
Needs to string a few games together, but I think he'll make way for Fraser if comes up

Thought he was good last night. Just watching the reply again and he had a couple of leads and marks with his man right on his hammer. Keep him in as long as we can and let him find his feet. With Rocca out there is a spot for him up forward if he wants it. Don't play Fraser till his right.

Agree, didn't look 'lost' at all and realised he was playing with the big boys and kept it simple with his disposals. Looks the part, unlike some who at times don't get the speed of the game at all. Was much happier seeing him in and hopefully he stays in over the next few weeks.
i thought he did well when he got it.. didnt get much of it but used it well..
a bit off topic here but im so confused with his name!
on the team poster it says Jack, when he has shots for goal in the 2's its says John.. people on here call him both..
Which one is it!?

^ Pretty sure it's John. (that's what it says on the cfc website)
I call him Jack as a nickname because I heard other people call him that.

He played alright, but could've done a lot better imo. Wasn't a standout performance, nor thread-worthy.

Did enough to get another game IMO. I've always thought he could play. I see him more as a defender than a forward, but in the absence of Rocca, Rusling and Reid, I think we should give him an extended run as a forward. He didn't really show it last night, but he is a very good kick.

Malthouse also called him jack in the Press conference.
Well the 2008 collingwood team photo says Jack and you would think that they would use his real name for that.. not a nickname lol
anyway its beyond me, im lost
His real name is John, as is his fathers and so he is called jack which is a nickname for kids called john:thumbsu:
SO jack it is
Showed presence and the reason for his selection
Well done young man...
he has a great future.. in the forward line for me

His real name is John but Jack is a common nickname of John. It's only really in the last 20 years that it's become a proper first name, usually everyone called Jack is actually a John/Jonathan.
Some players have preferred to use their nicknames.
Look at Jimmy Bartel who changed from James Bartel.
I think Martin Clarke is Marty Clarke according to official guides.
I think in his first year Harry was listed as Heritier O'Brien, but then he changed it to Harry, and now it's back to Heritier.

He looked good. I think he could become a handy swingman, although we're yet to see him in defense in the AFL yet.

I liked his game. Lead well and to the right areas, showed awareness with passing, good below his knees and put on lots of forward pressure. If he gets a few games in a row as a forward, people will pass to him more often and he'll get his confidence up.

I believe, and correct me if I am wrong, last night was his second AFL game.
He kicked two goals on debut.
Kicked 1 last night, but also missed one which was very get-able.
Did some good things, attacked the ball well and made a few good passes.
Yes, at times he looked a little lost but then so did 75% of the Swans players and they have all played far more than 2 AFL matches.
So far he averages 1.5 goals per game, Dale Thomas, Alan Didak average 1.4, Leon Davis, Travis Cloke average 1.7 with Rocca at 2 and Medders at 2.6.
I would say I am pretty happy with his first couple. Not bad at all for a backman.
Well done and keep it going Jack.

Last night, one of the commentators said he was from Diamond Creek. Did they mean a team or the suburb?

2007 photo says john!!
Jack is a form of John, old school.
If you really need a definitive answer to this ask his Dad.
JAJH would certainly know his sons name and nickname.

John played all his junior footy for Diamond Creek...and yes, his nickname is Jack, where that came, I don't know!

I though he was OK !
He certainly does not look out of place in the senior team.
Good hands, does not panic when he gets the ball, picked up the pace of the game pretty easily.
You could not expect wonders from him considering it was only his second game and he was on the bench a long time as well. He did well with his limited opportunities.
I predict that the kid has a big future.

He played alright, but could've done a lot better imo. Wasn't a standout performance, nor thread-worthy.I thought it was a very threadworthy game. Forward play is just as much about creating space and opportunities for other players as it is about getting possessions and scores yourself (something people don't udnerstand about Rocca's importance), and he made a big difference to our forward line as a leading threat as well as doing some very good link-up/assist work. Yeah still needs to get up to speed with ground play but it should come pretty quickly. I hope he gets a few games in a row now.
i rate the JACK ATTACK higher than ried.
I liked his game. I thought he attacked the ball strongly, didn't squib the contest at all. Showed a few things which were really good, but at the same time did a few things that showed he was still in only his 2nd game.
All in all, definetly worthy of retaining his spot (and a thread!).

Yeah he is from out that way

A thread about the recent performance of one of our up and coming Back/Forward options after confirmation that our key froward, Rocca, and his most likely replacement, Reid, are out for the year and with a fair chance at some finals action a couple of months away.
Yep this is definitely un-threadworthy:rolleyes:.
Lets talk about Daisy's hair again.
Oh! yeah! and drop Maxwell....:(

Deserved the game, didn't look out of place. I think he deffinatly has the ability to be handy in the foward line, that said i still think he will be best suited and in the long run the team will be best suited with him in the backline.
That said while he has earnt the spot and the oppertuinity is there it is great to see him contributing.
On a side note we do going foward need another Big backmen to help out Brown. Ja and Harry are both slightly undersized backmen who play taller does anyone think if we went with a similar style to Hawthorn who give Croad the number one big bloke whether they be CHF or FF. Give brown the lead up target and Gilham the other foward we would be able to work that with Brown Ja and Harry.
Harry has shown the ability to play really well on big name lead up players and play well on smalls too. JA has been given some really big tasks at VFL level and looked good on both stronger bodies and smaller blokes too.

Gary Lyon gave him some kudos on Footy Confidential last night.

Nah, Reid's done more at senior level at this stage, excluding goal kicking

Given that he was recruited as a defender and up until recently had played up forward only rarely, it was a really encouraging performance.
All you can ask of a young player early on is that they look like they belong - and he certainly looked like he belonged.
I thought Jack played good for just a 2nd gamer.
I also rate him higher than Reid as he can actually kick straight, maybe Jack should tutor Reid on how to kick goals ;)
Strong hands, fast lead, 2nd efforts and defensive pressure all impressed me. He did miss 2 set shots but he is a very good kick for goal normally, and these shots were from around 50 metres out so were probably just out of his range. Overall good game and should be kept in the side as he is a very promising young forward/defender who has good skills

While I agree that he was likely recruited as a defender I'd suggest that it was more likely his versatility that got him drafted. JAJH can correct me if I'm wrong but as I recall it Jack played in a variety of positions and it was only in his last year at TAC that he was used consistently in a defensive role.

For a second game as a leading key forward, that is more like what you'd expect from a top 10 pick. I think Roughhead and even Buddy took a lot longer than that to have a game as good as that, so he's a v exciting prospect to reach their sort of level. Whether he can follow through and survive other teams' working him out, 2nd year blues etc remains to be seen but definitely looks v promising on Saturday's effort.
they just keep on pulling these rookie stars out of the hat so who needs high draft picks?!

John wasn't a rookie, he was taken at no. 37 in the 2005 national draft.
Well Done Jack Fantastic game hope you get a few consecutive games now.

Diamond Creek also yielded some handy brothers to play for Collingwood in the 20's & the 30's.
