Scans in the next 24 hours are expected to confirm power forward Courtney Johns will require a knee reconstruction, bringing his season to a premature end. Playing for Bendigo, Johns seriously injured his left knee late in the second quarter and was taken from the ground on a stretcher.
Essendon high performance manager John Quinn said the Club feared the worst but would have to wait on scans to confirm the injury. Should the diagnosis be as expected, it is yet another cruel blow to Johns who defied the opinion of many to overcome chronic hip injuries to play AFL football.

I must say,
it is time for him to go...I personally don't see any room for him,
unless Essendon keep playing him in the reserves and use him for a spare forward..hmm
He is still only turning 24,so might get picked up by another club if Essendon let him go :thumbsu:
Sad way to end his career at Essendon if that is the case. :( youch.

I have always loved the man and stood by him even though it has caused me to be ridiculed severely for it, no one was as shattered watching him go down yesterday as me. BUT unfortunately I think this could spell the end of Cj at essendon I hope it doesnt and if it does I hope he gets picked by another club but with his history of injuries and yet to prove himself at the elite level not to mention the form of Jay I fear this is it.
I hope I am wrong and we give him another go but logic says its the end.
If only he had the bain of Jobe with his hands and physic imagine the possibilites

I 100% agree Willow, have always been a fan of Courtney, never thought he was going to be the Pavlich type Sheedy talked him up to be, but always thought he had what it takes. I too hope we give him another chance, there are plenty of guys who can go ahead of him, but logic tells us this is the end for Johns.

Well, looks like it is the end of big Johnsy. Sad way to end his career.

Yep. Good Bye Johns. They would be silly too Keep him
Do feel so sorry for the boy - was always a hard worker and never gave up! Sad way to finish his time in the red and black.
Was hoping he'd come good and become a player for us at either end of the ground. Definately can't see it happening now with his latest injury and will most likely be delisted at years end because of it.

At least he's young enough to forge some kind of career for himself away from AFL.

Really feel for the lad. Truthfully he was likely to get delisted but I admire his courage and determination to succeed at the highest level. He obviously had the problems with the hip and it is testament to his character that he very nearly made it to the top. As it turns out he just couldn't make it but I wish him all the best for the future.
If he does deicde to forge a career in the AFL with another club Id wish him the best of luck:thumbsu::(

Completely unnecessary and callous:thumbsd:
Johns - while you were dubbed the great white hype and never delivered - I have the utmost respect for you given everything you have had to overcome.

Ridiculous post.
I expect he was almost certain to be de-listed at seasons end as his contract was up, but I had hoped he might get that one more shot too prove himself in the seniors.
Congratz to Johns on having any sort of AFL career when that serious hip injury threatened to even stop him walking. That took guts. He may never have become the player I hoped, but he earned my respect.:thumbsu:

Can someone start a poll should we keep Johns I would be curious to see the results?

Well there goes any trade value he had. Good luck for the future CJ, unfortunately it doesn't look like it will be at Bomberland.

I think CJ has had enough chances. Always struggled when promoted to the 1's and this will unfortunately accelerate his departure.
If only his looks transpired into how he could play. Had the perfect build to play footy, but it just never happened. :(

The results would be overwhelming in favour of letting him go.
There was little support for him to stay before this injury.

Oh cry me a river and grow a set mate! He clogged up the list for years and was just pure shit whenever he had the chance to play in the 1's. One hack freed from the Essendon list, wheres the problem?

Was this really necessary? I was at the game on Saturday and felt compelled to have a quiet, friendly-ish word with a smart-arse Collingwood supporter who loudly expressed sentiments not dissimilar to your own, while Johns was writhing in pain just a few metres away. This smart-arse knob was only about 17, and a Collingwood supporter. What's your excuse???
Whatever you think about Johns the player, he's a young man who's just had his dream shattered. He's had to overcome enormous physical obstacles and has busted his balls for our club, even if he hasn't delivered on the promise.
Do you even know where the door is? If you do, I'll bet you're not standing on the inside of it.
Did you also cheer when Judd was injured in the clash with Lloyd??
Not cool dude. Goodbye yourself!
:thumbsd:
I have never been a fan of CJ, BUT i never questioned his effort for the team.
I highly doubt he will be given another chance at Essendon, but you never know he might get another chance at our seconds.. Freo.
Johns to have full knee reconstruction

Western Australian key position prospect, Courtney Johns, will have a full knee reconstruction after tests today confirmed he has ruptured his left Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). The injury occurred late in the second quarter of Bendigo’s VFL clash with Port Melbourne on the weekend.
This latest injury set-back is a cruel blow to Johns who defied the opinion of many to overcome chronic hip injuries and play 21-games of AFL football since making his debut in 2005.
Club doctor, Bruce Reid, said the 23-year-old will visit knee specialist Julian Feller for the reconstruction in about two weeks.
“After the operation he will start rehabilitation and will be fit to play again in approximately eight or nine months,” he said.
“Most clubs have about one knee reconstruction a year so we have been lucky for the past six-seven years during which we only had two.
“Unfortunately we have had two this year with Alwyn and now Courtney so that’s very disappointing.”
Johns was taken by Essendon as a rookie pick in 2002.

The question is... Will Knighta Let him Go?
If we let him go, Freo will have no hesitation in drafting him again.... I'm being serious.

Theres being critical and then theres just being a complete tool.
You don't have a set. Taking cheap shots after someone gets injured , yes you are a real big man.
Johns should not be on the list. That is fair enough. He is not up to it but the kid deserves some respect for even making it as far as he did given he basicly had to learn to run and kick again after his hip problem.

Hope he makes a recovery but I won't lose sleep over him not being on the teamsheet for Essendon. Hope he makes it at another club

Knighter will let him go. The writing was on the wall when both Lucas & Lloyd were unavailable in Round 4 and he was not picked in the side (named as emergency as I recall). A classic case of a bloke who plays great in the twos but not up to senior AFL standard. Yes he's had a lot of injuries, but even when not injured, he's not stepped up and taken his chances. Jay Neagle has now stepped into the role that he should have nailed down by now.

Its a shame to really when you think about the raps the kid had on him when he came over here originally.... I was a fan for too long i'll admit and it took seeing him live for the first time against Port this year for me to realise he just doesn't have an AFL brain.
Best wishes to him at either another AFL club or back home in the WAFL.
Lets hope he has got something outside of footy to fall back on....
