View Full Version : Can the eagles win??
You guys have quite a tough game ahead of you against the bombers this week. With all the travelling, and coming off a fairly intense game against the roos, do you think the Eagles have any chance against us at the G??:)

Yes
Bombers will be favourites, but i think we CAN win if we play like we did against North and the young guys step up. In finals footy either the young players all step up outta sight, or crash in nervousness...we'll see what kind of young players Woosha has moulded them into;)

Yes - especially if Cox gets up. We'll certainly be capable, if the ticker is there.
Crikey, I'm counting the sleeps already.

Yes - can. A major difference this year has been belief.
Essendon on their home ground will be very tough, of course, and we'd rather a large ground as our midfield and ruck should be better/quicker than yours, but we'll give it a go.
Yes we can win! It will be hard but we can. Specially if Wirrapunda gets up and we play with the same intensity that we played with against North.

Certainly the Eagles can win. The key is the Gardiner/Cousins combination. They could really cut the bombers up.

If we win on Saturday, then all of a sudden apreliminary final looks likely.
Why? Because barring a miracle Collingwood win at Port, our next stop would be Colliewobble at the G, and even Grilledfish admits they are pretenders.

Very unlikely, but upsets do happen.

Manuka is one of the smallest grounds in the AFL and it is where we carved up...i would say smaller is good as if we win the clearance by the time we get the ball a lot of the time the midfielders will be in range.

I thought the playing area was quite big at Maaaaaaarrrrnuka? Agreed the stands are tiny.

This may well happen. I can actually see us doing that! Stick it right up Mick where it really hurts! Knock him and his pies out of the finals!!
Would have been good to see the AFL give us the Sunday game, given that we've just had the 4 plane trips this weekend, and will probably only have a 4 day break before having to fly again.

I am surprised that our game wasn't scheduled for Sunday seeing as you played at Manuka & have to travel again this week, this is the main reason why I think we will have a win, your guys are going to be stuffed.
Cheers
We certainly can win. Fair enough in 11 away games we only won 2 but if we play like we played on Sunday then a win is certainly attainable.
Could see Cox, Wirrpunda and Fletcher back in the side and Cousins is back in his very best form. Kerr is approaching new heights! It's all possible now. But still Essendon are very good and despite there indifferent year, they are certainly a shot at winning the lot if they get a run on.
Lloyd v McIntosh will be a big battle. Who will take Hird? Who will tag Cousins. Who is gonna get thrashed by Gardy in the ruck? :D

Hird is carrying a groin injury and may not play.
Cousins will be tagged by Peverill i'd say
I hope Salmon plays against Gardiner in the ruck, I really do :)
Who is gonna back Gardy up though? Cox wont play for mine
Just hearing that Hird is most likely to miss this game due to a groin injury, I think our chances are bolstered right now.
If McIntosh can curb Lloyd's score board damage, we will win I reckon.
We showed on Sunday that we have a lot of potential goal kickers in Kerr, Judd, Wilson and Matera, plus a lot of others that chip in singles.
Our midfield is really hitting it's peak at the moment with Kerr and Cuzz cutting it up on Sunday, and Gardiner is back to his brilliant self. We're in with a huge chance.
Hird's injury could just be smoke and mirrors from Sheedy. Whoosha should announce that Cuz may not play :D
A friend of mine saw Hirdy walking around South Yarrah yesterday and said he looked proppy. So maybe he really is injured. Who knows with Sheedy!!!

Hird is injured, and according to the Vic media he might be rested as they don't want him injured for the more important finals matches (yup, we've been written off completely. Even essendon players are saying in the media how they're looking ahead to the preliminaries and stuff). Its unlikely this Hird injury thing is a fake, he's definately injured. The question is to what extent?
Well thats good news for us and bad news for the bummers! They'll miss hirdy!

Too true.
The relief seen on the players faces after the game spoke volumes. I think they now firmly believe they CAN play away and the game against the Kangaroos may have just broken the ice for us.

tsk tsk.
Been many upsets in finals over the years. For the Bombers to be talking this far in front is really dangerous. Sheedy needs to pull their heads in. An attitude like that could cost them the game.
As VOR would say....
A week at a time.
