View Full Version : What shall we call the BigFooty Saints Best and Fairest Award?

We SOOOOO need to come up with a name for this B&F award...

"The Big Footy Saints Board Darrell Baldock Medal?"

Wait for next year (maybe) and call it "The Banger"!

I like the idea of calling it the 'Baldock award' - I am biased - he was my childhood hero. "The Doc"

This thread is to be used in nominating possible names for the award - then we'll have a poll - that way we get a popular choice.

Ooh, that is tempting!

My Dad reckons Baldock, maybe Ian Stewart.

The Big Footy Saints Board 'Buckets' Medal. Honouring 321 game legend Stewart Loewe

Some great names starting to be thrown around - and will probably become too many.

I'll throw in something from left field - what about the Big Footy X Award, with X being Harvey's final game tally (380 looks a chance?).

Whilst Riewoldt might overtake him in B&F awards, Harvey is currently the only player with 4 of them (and may become the 3rd highest games player in the AFL all-time).

....

....

well I did say I like my stats.

I'd go for Barks' BigFooty Medal.

I just imagine how good our club would have been if Trev was able to coach us. He had nothing but red, white and black in his veins.

It was a fait accompli I seem to remember (until he got sick).

I think you should name it after someone who has not been recognised by having something at the club or associated with then club named after them already.

My suggestions would include 300 game players Nathan Burke, Stewart Loewe and Barry Breen, the icon of the club Darrel Baldock, and our only premiership coach Allan Jeans.

Allan Jeans is another terrific option - the man behind great players like Breen, Doc, Neale, Stewart.

I like the idea of the Barks, but it's already taken by St Kilda's actually official b&f (wouldn't want the players getting confused now, would we - Roo says, "I won the Trevor Barker medal in 2008", and Hayes goes, "No, I won it - Kildonian kept giving me 5 almost every week...")?

If I had the stomach for a "crappest player of the year" award, I have the perfect name for it: The Blight (it works on so many levels...).

We're not going to have a "Blight" but :thumbsu: I did spit out a mouthful of coffee when I read that :D

As another thought for everyone to have their say upon:

What about a parallel competition for kids - we can decide what to call it later - maybe the "mini award" - not necessarily an award for kids just must be < 75 matches or < 50 matches @ AFL level to qualify and not necessarily needed to play in the main match - i.e. if Howard has a blinder in the Scorps and McQualter has a blinder in the 'A'Grade then e.g. 3 McQualter, 2 Howard, 1 Eddy

It's a nice idea. The only problem I see with it is just being informed enough to put in the votes, especially when we're talking Casey games. I never get to see any.

I like the idea having a separate competition for the "kids", but agree with PS that it may be difficult to judge VFL players (I think that so far, only two were broadcasted by the ABC - even though I personally may see more of them once they 'move' to Sandy).

But I am convinced that we'll see more and more 'kids' with St Kilda next year - and no, I don't believe that we should trade Lenny Hayes !

At my local club we have a best first year player award.
The award is pretty much self explanitory, but for the saints board award we could make it like the NAB rising star where any player can win it aslong as they had played less that 10 or 20 games at the start of the year.
That way it is more open and only players who play in the Seniors can win it.
A prime Example would be same Gilbert last year. He had an absoultly briliant year for some one who had played minimal footy the previous year/s at the club.

How about the Jayson Daniels Excellence Award? That works on several levels ... :p;)

Focus boys, focus (think a muddy Teddy Whitten in the huddle or a trenchcoated John Kennedy Sr yelling "don't think man, DO!!!").

Before we Hi Ho Silver on a tangent, can we get everyone to first vote each week on each game?

Happy to add up my own votes of course, but then it would be the Squizzy award which is kindof a funny name for it. Even I wouldn't be that impressed to get that one.

Would like to see more of the BF representation, as there are at least 40 of us (with another 8-10 new sign ons gathered by recent posts) yet only 10-15 actually vote each week.

Maybe even the hijacker will vote one of these days, but I suppose it's pretty hard to justify 5 votes for Grant Thomas every week.

Good point Squizz.

Don't want it ending up like our player review section!!!!! (FWIW, at least I posted my two reviews!!!)
