View Full Version : Got my ticket!
Got my ticket for the first final! I was about 6th in line when they opened and had my ticket(section Q) by 9.15. As always seems to happen there were people in front of me who had issues with their tickets. I never can understand this; I'm always just, here are my cards, do you have so-and-so seat? Yes we do. Here's my money. Here's your seat. Or if it's no we don't then it's well do you have this one.
Or words to that effect. This time it was someone who had 2 Anchors and Season Tickets but only one membership. They were saying the one person who is the member has two anchored seats in his name. Seemed very odd to me but the bloke on the desk with the Port t-shirt accepted this.
Hope you've all got, or will get, yours.
Er, tickets, I mean.
Unfortunately I'm out of the country so I'll miss the entire finals....
My timing is impeccable.
Pure genius.
At least I'll be able to get to the grand final :D
Got my ticket this morning :)

I won't have mine booked until a few minutes after midday tomorrow but my mother got here tickets this morning.......got to Bass at Malvern at 8:00am and there was only 1 person in front of her............
Mind you she also had problems with the people operating the ticket section as they said she only had to pay the $5.45 to secure a members reserved seat - after getting them to check with H/O they realised that didn't get her into the ground.......
Can't wait til Friday night.............looks like most of the country is getting ripped off with the TV coverage as it is on 30 mins delay in VIC/NT and not til 10:30 in QLD and NSW..............looking at Fox they also are only doing late replays although their TV guide could be wrong............

Me mum was lining up for tickets today and spent 2 hours in the line due to footy park members buying tickets. Apparently it had something to do with the BASS system not allowing them in or something like that. Your mum could very well have been in the same line as her as she was out in the Norwood area to buy the tickets.

This was Malvern and Unley and the queue when she left only had 30 people in it but took her about 10 minutes to sort out - she basically told the Bass staff member 5 times what tickets were required but the staff member didn't believe her........
well that's her story anyway........:D
I hope my phone call tomorrow only takes a couple of minutes........

Will depend on what time i can get down there. The people i normally go with have a nasty habit of getting there about 15 minutes before the start. But well try and hurry them up a bit, but not holding my breath.

Well bloody Fri night games don't suit us, we have to start them at 7pm so it aligns with the Melbourne media coverage, also Footy Park is outside of Adelaide not like the G.
It takes long enough to get out of the city in Peak hour traffic and having to miss the first quarter I think people aren't going to pay $47 for a 3 quarter game when it is only a half an hour delay on telly.
Plus the Power have about 8500 season ticket country supporters that drive down for games but being in a shocking timeslot they cannot make it whereas the Brisbane game was a sat afternoon and it was a lot easier to come down late fri or early sat. My uncle's clan of 16 who travel from Whyalla each week couldn't make it because of last Fri's timeslot, they wasted their tickets. A lot of others were in the same situation and it was the first game they had missed all year.
If it was on the same timeslot as the Collingwood clash earlier in the year ( a half an hour later start) or in the timeslot of the Port v Carlton 97 sellout fri night clash (an hour later start) the Crowd figures would of been a lot different.

Realistically there are reasons why the crowd went from 46,500 down to 33,000. Add to that the fact there were probably about 5,000 more collingwood supporters than there were Brisbane supporters the week before and it means that almost 20,000 people who went to the Rd 22 game didn't go to the final. The first issue is cost, the second is the time of the game and third is the fact that the game is delayed by only 20-30 minutes.
Obviously a final is a bigger game than a round 22 match so why do 20,000 people suddenly decide not to go? Easy why would a family (2Ad & 2Ch) pay almost $150 to get in, then add car parking ($6) , food/drink (say $30) and a record ($5) and you could easily spend $200 on a night out. Now how many familys can afford that, especially given that the game is delayed by just 20 odd minutes.
The cost is way too high, the game is bacially live on TV, so no wonder not many turn up. BTW does anyone know whether MCC members have to pay to go to a finals game and if so how much?

I wouldn't think so. Even as a restricted AFL member, I get the first two weeks of finals at the G free (would have to have paid for Essendon v West Coast).

So why don't we (the Footy Park members) get the finals for free?
Those supporters of the Melbourne clubs can say the crowds are Sh*t but how much money does the competition receive out of a 35k crowd (all paying) at Footy Park compared to 60k at the MCG with many getting in free?
That's the thing that ****es me off. The Victorian media and public get off saying absolute BS about our crowd figures yet ignore the variables. Then they have a go when we get a little bit passionate about our states. It is quite bloody frustrating. Listening to 3AW through 5AA on the weekend only confirmed what I have been thinking for a long long while. Clinton Grybas should be the next Prime Minister of Australia, almost the only person to see both sides of the debate. Vote 1 Grybas.
None of the crowds for any of the finals were that good.
NM v Melb: 53,967 was probably the best crowd but how many were actually paying customers?
Port v Coll: 33,131 again not a good crowd but why did 20,000 people suddenly not turn up from last week?
Bris v Adel: 31,854 not a great crowd to watch last years premiers in what could of been their only home final.
Ess v WC: 37,475 although at CS still not a huge crowd by any means, sure it was with an out of town team but surely since Essendon are one of (if not the most) popular victorian team then a crwod of this size is not exactly outstanding.
Again i think it shows that the AFL is more worried about TV figures rather than actual crowd figures, if this wasn't the case then why would the coverage of the games be shown so close to the kick off time?

Check out the afl website for a pretty evenhanded reponse to the crowd issue.
From http://afl.com.au/default.asppg=opinion&spg=display&articleid=59094
" My guess - and that’s all it is - is that the League has proverbially sewn the poo and reaped an ill-smelling whirlwind, under a final eight system. To most fans, the four-game first week of the finals is now like another home and away round. The difference is fans feel they require advanced cryptographic skills to decipher how to get tickets for the early finals, and they have to pay 2-3 times the price to attend them."
While I do not agree that supporters think the finals are just round 23, I think a lot of the points are valid

I think the sooner the AFL adopts a final five sytem the better. The team that finished higher gets the home final until the GF (which should be played at the MCG no question) with no exceptions. The final 5 system rewards the top team the most, a week off and a double chance plus home finals throughout, teams 2 & 3 both get double chances plus the odd home final and teams 4 & 5 are in a knockout situation from the first game. Teams that finish below 5th don't deserve to be in the finals.
All games would actually mean something, the last few weeks of the H&A season would be more exciting and the higher you finish the better off you are. Also there would be no if this team wins then we get a home final etc etc.

Only trouble is the AFL, as a business, would never accept playing only 6 finals where the current situation allows for 9. I agree, the final 5 is better in that it does not reward mediocrity and allows teams that have earnt a double chance to keep it by winning their first game.
Maybe there could still be an 8 but the first week could be used to decide positions and the bottom 3 teams could be pruned to make a 5.
I know that the AFL will probably never reduce the amount of finals but surely playing 6 finals that are all corkers rather than 9 of which some are non events would be better for the game as a whole.
