View Full Version : Saturday 12th July - Essendon V Brisbane TD @ 7:10
Going to be a cracker game i believe..
Essendon in some good form and having a good away win at Subiaco will lift the confidence but coming up against Brisbane who lost to the bottom team in a disappointing display.
Essendon should get back the likes of Neagle and Houli coming back who are promising young prospects of the bombers new young side. Also Henry Slattery coming back in after the big knock from Brendan Fevola's knee against Carlton in Round 13. With young gun David Myers going out with a slight stress fracture in his foot is disappointing to see when he was just starting to slot into that backline and making a difference.
Brisbane will come out firing after their 1 point loss to Melbourne and with the tall timber of Bradshaw and Brown and with no Michael for Essendon, Dustin Fletcher and Paddy Ryder will have their hands full with the 2 power forwards. Bradshaw's record against the Bombers has been phenomanal. Can't remember the last time he kicked under 4 goals against us. Brisbane will get back Travis Johnston back from a hamstring strain.
The key match-up's that i'd like to see.
Neagle V MacDonald. MacDonald has really come on this year and cemented his spot at CHB
Lloyd V Merrett - Lloyd has been in reasonable form over the past 3 games be interesting to see how Merrett responds to the task.
Welsh V Black - Welsh has taken some pretty big names along with him since he has become Essendon's number 1 tagger, Mitchell, Judd, Priddis, Palmer. Black would be the perfect opponent for Welsh has they are basically the same pace.
Ryder V Bradshaw. IMO i think if Ryder went to Brown i think Browny would be to strong for the young boy. Bradshaw is no lean boy also but he is the leaner of the 2. Ryder has good closing speed and should be able to run with Bradshaw.
The Big One Fletcher V Brown - Browny is just an amazing player and this will be an amazing match-up. The Carey V Jakovich kind of match-up. Always a classic. Glad that Fletcher has been given the all clear to play otherwise i think we would of been fairly stuffed.
IMO I believe that if Essendon can win the ball out of the middle and uese the ball well i believe that we can win, but if Brown and Bradshaw get a good start, who knows what they will end up doing.
Hope the Bombers can go 4 in a row, but it'll be a tough ask.
Tipping the Bombers by 17 points only on the fact that it is down here and we have had the wood on them since 05 down here.
Go Bombers :thumbsu::thumbsu:

I have some very good hopes for this game. Mainly because it's at the Telstra Dome. Other things come to mind. Just like someone else brought up before... Brisbane's 5 of their last 6 wins have been against Melbourne (16th), Fremantle (14th), Carlton (9th), St Kilda (8th) and North Melbourne (10th) & the 6th win against Adelaide (6th) at Home isn't much to Crow about (No pun intended) if you take their form into account - It brings me to believe that we have a good chance in matching up against them.
Not to mention they actually LOST to Melbourne in Round 14. And while the Lions might have copped a slap that could have brought them back on the ground... I still think it's a little too late. They'll go in wanting to win, but at the same time keeping the fear they achieved after last weeks loss to a completely shitty team.
The Bombers always find a way to manage somehow, in any condition when possible... but this time I would have to say our ladder chance will play a good role in our confidence this week. Knights will most likely feel the same, and he will no doubt inject the tonic were looking for in our players come the day it begins. Fletcher will bounce right back from his injury - and our record in beating them has been wonderful as of yet.
I'm thinking Lloydy has really shown a lot of great signs lately, and Reimers (as well as Mcveigh & Hille) will give it all they've got to put the Lions to rest.
And finally, the last three wins would be enough to make the Bombers believe they can win this. The 13 day rest will come in handy.
Of course Brisbane can also beat us, but my Optimism has taken me over and I will predict ESS to win by 22 points if all goes to plan. The game will be a thriller early on, only to let the Bombers get quite ahead by the late 3rd quater. Finishing in a confident win.
GO BOMBERS! :thumbsu::)

I am more pumped than usual for this game since I am flying down to Melbourne for it and this will be the first time my kids accompany me to an AFL match.
The next generation of AFL fans begin :)
My mate also got tickets to the Carlton Vs St Kilda match so it will be an AFL bonanza for an A.C.T resident this weekend!
Carn the BOMBERS!!!

I think our last two convincing wins against them in Melbourne will give us some confidence, but I can't see us finding suitable match ups for Brown and more importantly (in my opinion), Bradshaw and if Brisbane get half decent supply happening they are going to be difficult to stop.

Enjoy the game mate:thumbsu:
We are definitely a chance tonight. We do well against the Lions in Melbourne and they arent a very intimidating team unlike Geelong. May come down to Brown/Bradshaw and how well Ryder/Fletcher do. Their midfield is superior but we are capable of holding our own. With momentum and confidence I think the Bombers can get up by a few goals.
Go the Dons. 17th flag by 2012:thumbsu:
I tipped Brisbane but would absolutely love to be proven wrong. Four in a row would be noice! Go Dons!!!

It's almost here.......
I have confidence, but I'm also realistic. We have a chance against them, it just depends if we grab it. I hope we do... it would be nice to have 4 in a row.
Anyway, either way, I'm just happy to have the footy back!!
Go Bombers!!

at least they beat c'wood
Essendon's best win for the year. To beat a strong midfield and powerful forwardline is great to see.
We may or may not make the 8, but, we're gonna be causing a fair bit of trouble.

OHHHH YES!!!
FOUR IN A ROW BABY!
Good to see. I'm happy to see Pev getting back into the game slightly... Laycock was annoying me a little... but I guess he's made amends with that 50 goal in the end.
As usual, Hille's gameplay is just GREAT. I LOVE that man. What a fantastic player. Ryder did a good job, his athletic form gave him the upper hand when it came to fitness & speed. Brown was a little intimidating, but his focus on strength made me write him off with the miss in the final minutes of the 3rd quater.
Welsh, Mcveigh, Reimers & Angus all stood out nicely in my opinion. It's good to have that spread of experience throughout the feild, I hope it stays this way for weeks to come. Injurless of course. I can see this being threatening in 09.
Finally, Lloyd's effort, as predicted, was really notching up. Seeing him back in the goal square was nice to notice. I'm happy with him leading the boys again.
Whatever Knights has done, he better continue. These wins have given me confidence, and I have no doubt we can make it FIVE IN A ROW next week against the Tigers. :thumbsu:
Congrats Bombers, brought a very big smile to my face!! - Don't write us off yet. :p
