View Full Version : Last time we played North in an Elimination Final this happened...
Elimination Final
Melbourne 3.6 9.11 16.16 22.26 158 Nth Melbourne 3.2 4.4 4.8 5.10 40
Date: 06-Sep-1987 Att. 72,628 Played at: M.C.G.
I was there & it was awesome! We unleashed 23 years of September frustration on the Roos, who were Red hot favourites.
It was described in todays MX as "A Bludgeoning!"
That score is still the equal highest score in an Elimination final & the margin is easily the highest recorded since the Elimination Final became necessary in 1972.
Doubt we can manage a repeat performance, but it was worth dragging up again anyway :D

Might also be worth mentioning that we have played the Kangaroos/North Melbourne 4 times in the finals, and have won 3 of them with an average winning margain of 57 points.

It should be mentioned that it is still 5 days out from the big game, but only 34,000 public tickets are left. Should be a huge crowd, it's good to see.

I am proud to say that I actually have the footy record sitting at home from that game. My old man went along and he STILL brings it up to this day.
A week earlier, he was so ecstatic that we got into the finals he took me down to the nearest shop and bought me anything I wanted. Too bad I can't have a repeat of THAT performance!!! :D ;) :p

Hey, I was 1 1/2 years old, most of us were alive, but not entirely aware of what was going on! ;) :D

Greg Healy and Brian Wilson on the cover right? :D I've got it here as well. If you flick through to the North section, you'll notice Shaun Smith and Alastair Clarkson who saw the light in the mid-90's and came to Melbourne. ;)
A good record too, and cheap. All for $1.50 (not including GST).

Is it Wilson or Healy making a sign with his fingers? Can't remember what the sign is called!

Carlos you couldn't have been too old yerself!
I think Sugar Healy was making the old Ridgey-Didge sign either that or he is a Satan worshipper
 ;)
Twas a great day in 87! From the opening minute when Todd Viney drilled that goal from the boundary, right in front of the MCC. Robbie Flowers' 5 goals, It was magic!

I wish I could have seen that. I might have to order it in or something through Name A Game.
And Ridgy Didge was the sign alright, checked it our before! Strawbs O'Dwyer is in there too! :D
Mate, I was there too. First final I ever went to. Kinda hard to take when you're 9 years old!
We dished out a nice one to Melbourne in 1990 though. Longmire kicked 14 I believe!

Was at that one too, thank god I was out the back kicking the footy with Darky, so I missed most of that.
Jackovich's 11.7 the year after more than made up for that one ;).
