Bad luck for collingwood, it would have been great to see Buckley playing against Port. i always love it when he comes to adelaide to play against us, but it's just one less person to worry about on firday night, so much for buckley getting ready to reunite with kane cornes on the field!

he hasn't had much luck in the sense of playing finals, hopefully for bucks sake he's fit to play for the pies next week, because although he plays for the pies, i still had great admiration and respect for him.

COLLINGWOOD captain Nathan Buckley will not play against Port Adelaide in Friday night's qualifying final.

Coach Mick Malthouse told the Herald Sun yesterday Buckley had not come up in time from a hamstring strain.
"No, he won't play," Malthouse said. "Definitely not. He said he was 70-30 yesterday (Monday), but that was before training and he didn't get through training well enough.

"There's no point loading him up now. After last night's training, he won't play."

It was a bitter blow for Buckley, who has managed to play only one final for Collingwood since moving to the club from the Brisbane Lions for the stated reason he wanted to play finals.

"That's life. That's the way it works out," Malthouse said.

"He is disappointed, but he readily knows he is not ready to play."

A philosophical Malthouse said the club had played without Buckley before, and there was nothing to be done about it.

He said the fact Collingwood had a double chance and would definitely play another final was not a factor in the decision to leave Buckley out.

Malthouse also dismissed the idea that if Collingwood had an elimination final, Buckley would have played.

"No, you don't go in with unfit players," Malthouse said.

A shame that Buckley cant play but really i doubt whether it will change the result of the game much. It always great to see great players playing live but him not being there i guess just makes it a little easier for us to get up.

His time will come, although he isn't getting any younger, is he still glad he went to & stayed at Collingwood?

I wouldn't get too ahead of yourself.
Port is a great side.
But at the MCG, I expect Brissy to win.
I just think that Brissy won by 50 points over your lot at the 'gabba. You won at Footy Park by a kick. And were 1:30 away from losing.

At a neutral venue, I see Brissy getting up.

BUT...

Funny things happen on Grand Final Day. (Im a Collingwood supporter, I know!! :D)

Whatever happens, it will be great!

Well Williams says it's bull****. We'll see, but it's funny how a couple of clubs have declared players out early when with their quality you'd keep them in and give them every chance to come up in the week.

But the question is who will be the captain?
Apparently the criteria are
1) be yourself
2) flip a coin
3) show some leadership
(2 out of 3 of the above)

I wouldn't put it past Malthouse to be pulling a swifty here. Not to say only he would do that; fair's fair and if any coach had a top player who may not come up I'd expect them not to admit he was playing till the last minute. Of course Buckley may not front up but I'm not going to assume he isn't and I'm sure neither is Mark Williams.

Even if he doesnt play he will be there, and I suggest any time he is shown on the screen that 40000 arms go up thrusting their best middle finger toward him.

Now don't believe everything you read ... sure we love to give Nathan a hard time, but we used to do that when he played FOR us (Port Magpies that is). ;)

Nathan is still well respected by many Port supporters, and his performance at the 1992 Premiership Reunion Dinner didn't do him any harm either.

That's a better attitude! I'm not sure why some take it so personally that he didn't choose to go and play for Port Power? Oh well, one of the mysteries of the universe...

What I really don't understand is why ADELAIDE supporters boo him over there? Do they think he should've gone there too? Or are they actually sympathising with some Port supporters (unlikely!)? Maybe they're just plain crazy???

Its because they are uneducated thats why. They boo all the matchwinners from other sides.

Just come from the Collingwood board and there is a post which says a well known physio has said Buckleys' hamstring is still bleeding and he may not even play till 2003 depending on the Magpies performance in the finals. However, I did also notice that the person who put this up is a first-time poster. There are also other posts on the same thread that say Buckley will play so believe what you will.

Relax Kristin it all in good fun. If Malthouse can stir the pot why cant I.

Spot on.

Some Port supporters boo Buckley but it is more to do with thefact he refused to come 'home' in 1997 and perhaps something to do with some of his comments on the Power.
