I will qualify what I am about to say by stating that I was not a big wrap for the first film (Batman Begins) of this new installment of Batman films. I liked Tim Burton's take on the 1989 film where Batman (and the associated characters) still retained some of it's comic book persona. I was also a big fan of The Joker as played by Jack Nicholson and approached this remake of the character by Heath Ledger with a healthy dose of scepticism.
This film is brilliant. Heath Ledger is awesome as The Joker. Awesome to the point where I am inclined to think that he did a slightly better job than Jack Nicholson.
I would like to know what others think, particularly in relation to the 1989 film.

I didn't like the film much . . . I am a fan of the darker batman style, the Frank Miller take, and i enjoyed Batman Begins a lot. This new one is too convoluted and nothing much happened in it that i cared about. There was one cool 'gadget' which was the skyhook thing and that's about it. I would include the sonar technology, but they destroyed it. Also too many of the scenes are shot in the daytime, and Batman for me is a nighttime movie. The architecture of the city wasn't Gotham-like at all . . . I did not see the monorail from the first Batman film in this one. It just looked like a regular city.
Heath Ledger did an OK job as the Joker, certainly was a very menacing villain, and a very realistic villain given that he's a terrorist in this . . . Bruce Wayne didn't have any sort of relationship in this movie with anyone. In the end i didn't care what happened. My favourite Batman type is where he is in the shadows and he is an urban legend, and in this movie, he was out in the open too much and didn't use the darkness to his advantage.
Overall a 6/10.

It was fantastic.
Christopher Nolan and David Goyer did great jobs.
Also thought Aaron Eckhart does a good job as Harvey. Was good to actually be involved in the development of his character, unlike that crap movie where he is played by Tommy Lee Jones.
Shame it doesnt go enough into to include Harley Quinn, she is one of my favourite Batman characters.

I'm sure she is. And yes, this series is about showing how it all began, in the previous batmans the villains and heroes were all established.
Eckhart was great, and the SFX used to do his scarred face were surprisingly good.
I'm just glad we've moved on from the batman movies of the 70s with the shark repellent spray and all that. That Batman didn't have any special abilities, he just wore a cowl and cape and was otherwise a regular guy.

It's the first BAtman movie I've bothered seeing because superhero movies really don't do anything for me.
That said, I loved it. Heath Ledger was great, so was the guy that played Batman, evry convincing both as batman and as Bruce Wayne! :)
Went a little too long though.

Havn't seen it yet, really looking forward to future villains as they don't look artificial like the old ones.

I've never been a huge fan of the 80s - 90s Batman films, but I really liked Batman Begins and absolutely loved The Dark Knight. The Joker is really quite scary - my only problem isa that I find Christian Bale a little bland as Batman. Still better tha Val Kilmer, though!
I was very pleased to see a brief cameo from a Batman Begins character that I loved, as well!

Massive fan of this movie. Saw it last night and loved it.
I think its one of the darkest and most f*&ked up hollywood movie in a while - just chaos and destruction with no reason behind it at all.
Heath Ledger was sooooo good, I wasn't always a fan, and was a bit wary going into this having heard reviews and thinking it might have been so well acclaimed because he had died, but he played the joker bloody well.
Definitely a must see.
