Congrats to Alastair Pickett who won the Sandover medal, followed by Wells and Turnball who tied for 2nd. Anyone know if Pickett is likely to get picked up in the draft this year, and if so, which round/pick do you think they will go?
Also, I heard a story from my mates dad that someone was found dead at Challenge Stadium after the Sandover Medal Count... anyone know if this is true?
Cheers
How old is Pickett? Wells will go top 5 though and given Turnball's last two season's, winner and runner up. Why did we delist him? I know, i know...Gardy and Cox.
Heard nothing about the death at the stadium though?

I doubt he would have got a game this year, especially if you consider MacDougall, Gaspar, Seirakowski and Lynch are all in the squad (plus Seaby and others)

I thought Turnball was great when he was playing with the Eagles. Seriously, he used to take a few good grabs, his goal kicking was pretty damn good and he was handy in the ruck. I thought they delisted him because of his age but he doesn't seem to be slowing down?

No arguments here, I think the club just decided that they had at least two big men better than him that were significantly younger and decided to go that way. In a perfect world (with a bigger AFL list - I hate agreeing with George Grljusich) he'd be kept on for back up, but that just doesn't seem to happen these days.
Genuinely seems to be one of the nice guys of footy too. I met him through Uni when he was working for the FDT and he was a really great bloke.
Oh BTW, well done Alastair.

Yeah i always liked him and thought he had another season or two in him but when you have Gardiner and Cox in the ruck then there is no room for Turnball.

I will congratulate Ryan and say no more rather than risk racist taunts.

Well done to Pickett and the Peel Thunder Football Club! Hopefully this will encourage other clubs to keep them in the WAFL.
VoR - did you know that Pickett played for West Perth in 97 (?) according to todays west? Would be handy if we had him playing for us now.
As for the death - heard it on radio that someone possibly from the ABC was electricuted last night. :(

What is that meant to mean?
Re: the guy who died -
The body was found on one of the upper levels of Challenge Stadium while the count was in progress. Due to the injuries on the guy's head, it was initially treated as suspicious.
It was later thought that he may have been electrocuted (as that was what he was working on at the time), and sustained the injuries when he fell.
Electrocution was then ruled out, and it seems that he just dropped dead of natural causes (heart attack or something), and bruised his face and head in falling.

Hear hear on Peel.
No I didn't know that Pickett played for the Falsons - I'll ask people who were here then what they thought of him in the next week or so. I can't believe that Christian Kelly wasn't up there in the voting BTW, though Big Ron did OK.
Sad about the death, sounds like just one of those unfortunate things that no one could have done anything about.

Love to see those 2 players back at Swans, but not to be.

7 bogs and 7 second bogs for two players in a team that only won 7 games!!!
Now I watched Peel a few times and sure Wells stood out as a promising youngster and Picket was above average, but fairest and best...you're joking. I have discussed this with a few WAFL regulars along with two Peel supporters that said they were 'gobsmacked'. How many 'experts' even had him in their top 20?
Need I say more?

While I agree that there were a number of other players who should have scored better (and I watch quite a lot of WAFL) especially at West Perth (third and only had three absolute shockers all season), Pickett was tipped in the West the day before as a possible winner. Only the fact that he missed 5 games through injury made it less likely. I don't know who should have won it, and anything voted on by umpires is fraught with likely injustice.
