Such a huge change for Essendon cannot be good. Apart from Lynch being included, I think the changes are about right. Haynes being kept is a bit of a surprise too.

IMO Hird will play, whether he is 100% or not. Because once he's on the ground you have to tag him, allowing Essendon to free up somebody else who would be otherwise tagged. He won't be 100%, that a definite. It could work to our advantage if Hird plays, aggrevates the injury early in the game and spends time on the bench.

Honestly didn't think Hird would get named on the ground.

But he could still get dropped before Saturday and replaced by an emergency.

I'm dissapointed that munro got dropped. I thought he played allright on the weekend, and i reckon he's a good talent.

I reckon Sheedy would play Hird in a wheelchair if necessary in this game. He is inspirational on the field as a leader and Essendon will appreciate his presence.
The danger players for mine are Salmon and Alessio, who both can drift forward and kick goals. I know we have named a tall forward line, but so have they.
Essendon have all the advantages in this match, home ground, experience, virtually a full list to pick from. Most of the experts have gone for the Bombers by at least 4-5 goals.
I think it will be a lot closer than that.

Essendon look pretty menacing- all the more so if Hird actually plays.

I am very very surprised indeed to see Munro get dropped ahead of Haynes.. Munro was better last week, pure and simple, I hope haynes plays the best game of his mediocre career, because he doesn't deserve to be out there.

Interesting forward line, we really are going for the big bastards look. I think Lynch may have been included as a utility, to give Gardiner some rest in the ruck, or even play in defence.

I agree. I thought he did well in patches. Did not think Haynes deserved a game this week.

I think Seira would have been a better choice for this role (and this still might happen). I really can't see Lynch and Wilson working together in the forward 50, and they haven't done so far, but Seira gives a great contest at CHF (especially with MacDougall also floating around).

I guess the other option is to use Lynch down back, and take Jako to CHF where he can once again pull Lucas' oversized pants down

Here's hoping.

Good luck boys

Well the only real surprise is Haynes keeping his spot and Lynch coming into the squad. I knew Hird would be named, he will play, i doubt he will be 100% but he will still play. With Lloyd at FF, Milli will obviously get the job but with Alessio and Lucas both named forward, no doubt Jako will get one, but the other? Perhaps thats why Lynch was named.

Good to see Humm get another run and of course Doogs who will kick 10 goals and win us the game from CHF :D

Good point on Humm. He was great last week and really deserved to keep his spot. Doogs did the job adequately in his first game and Cox's injury probably helped both him and Lynch getting named.

Seems to me Andrew Williams is really on the outer. At the start of the year he would have easily been in our best 22, but improved performances from players like Wooden, Chambers, Humm and Green may have put him out of calculations for this year and beyond.

Not sure about that. Williams is just down on form. In his best form i have no doubt that he is in our best 22. He could be trade bait though this year which i hope doesnt eventuate because he is one of my favourite players.

I would have at least named Williams as an emergency, if not on the bench.

He's in my best 22 as well, but we aren't selectors for the club.

Apparently he played an absolute shocker in the WAFL on the weekend so i understand why he didnt get selected. But when he gets his form back, no doubt he will slot into our 22.

That's assuming he's still around and not traded in the off-season.

Williams plus a second round draft pick for Chick?

Could happen.

From the bits I can discern the following two trades have been discussed. The first one has been ongoing for two months or more.

Headland......Picks 1 and 3
Chick..........Braun +

The double edged sword is that if we beat the Bombers our draft picks drop in worth and the trade for Headland looks less promising. Eg, they may want 1 and 2 which we may say no to.

Time to eat humble pie and wish you all the best in the game against Essendon. I, like many so called experts, did not expect the Eagles to perform as they have this season.

Freo could do a lot worse than looking up the road for ideas on getting the most out of players.

I actually think you're some sort of silly chance, and then probably have Collingwood the week after - a prelim could be beckoning.

Thank God this is anonymous!

Draft picks are easy to give away, but with the quality of recruiting sccouts these days they are worth so much more.

To put things in perspective, part of the deal to get Chick to the Eagles two years ago may have involved the draft picks that picked up either MacDougall or more impotantly Kerr. Eagles fans these days would say it is unacceptable to trade either of these players, yet two years ago we were dissapointed Hawthorn wouldn't take a deal involing the position they were drafted in.

Makes you think...........

Its a good point, i wouldnt give up draft picks for Chick, Headland though is a different story. I hope the club does almost anything to get him. Would give us one of the strongest midfields in the country.
