1st Grade - ORANGE vs DUBBO

This match was pretty much over before it started with Orange being the standout team all year.

The Final Score was:

Orange 14.20.104 def Dubbo 10.5.65

The interesting part for me, is that I was doing the boundary for First Grade when the field umpire pulled a calf muscle a bit into the 3rd term. So I had to take over and umpire the rest of the Grand Final :D

Reserve Grade - Mudgee vs Dubbo

One of the matches of the day. Mudgee was favourite going in, but Dubbo was there to play. Going into the last quarter against a very strong breeze (probably a 5 goal breeze), they led by 5 points. They actually extended their lead in the final term!

Dubbo 8.11.59 def Mudgee 7.6.48

Under 17's Bathurst vs Cowra

Cowra surprised everyone in the Preliminary Final knocking our Minor Premiers Dubbo. They had to come in to face Bathurst, probably the best team in the competition, could Cowra upset Bathurst aswell? Not even close.

Bathurst 11.16.82 def Cowra 2.1.13

Under 14's Parkes vs Orange

This match was supposed to be a shoe in for Parkes. They had not lost a game all year and come into the Grand Final as unbackable favourites. Well if there was betting in junior grades, whoever backed Orange would be a rich man.

Orange 7.9.51 def Parkes 6.10.46

are you sure it was a calf muscle and not a heart string.

:D :D :D :D :D :D

What sort of travelling is involved in the CWAFL and what is the closest country comp to the CWAFL----- the upper riverina league ( cant think of name ) with W Wyalong and Ungarie would have to be close.

Northern Riverina is the league you are thinking of, Phil.D!

I wish I'd known about this post! Would have saved me a phone call to the Central Western Daily this afternoon!!

Hey, Mase, could you do me a favour? I'm missing the scores of the round that was played on June 1 and 2, the weekend before the Queens Birthday - because of some virus that prevented the CW Daily from getting them apparently (that's what they told me). Could you possibly get your hands on them for me?

Distance?

Well from Bathurst to Dubbo its probably close to a 2 1/2 hour drive.

Then of course there is Parkes, Mudgee and Orange. Also Cowra.

So there are quite a bit of distances to cover!

Orange is about 40 mins from here, whereas Parkes would be CLOSE to 2 hours.

Fair drive!

Is the standard of play improving or like a lot of country comps is it hard to get players to travel etc.

In comparison to the Rugby League and other sporting comps in the area where does the CWAFL stand.

Is their a strong auskick network.

Cheers

It is hard to get players to travel, especially with Bathurst this year. I cant really speak for other clubs but I am not sure that htey have having as severe a problem as us.

This was only my first year in the competition but I do believe the standard of play is improving, especially amongst the juniors!

I am not sure where it stands in comparison to that ....

That is an interesting question, I cant say I am entirely sure, but I know it is developing out here well.

In Bathurst alone there are now a lot of kids doing auskick on a sunday, and one of the schools here came 6th (or something like that) in the school state junior championships (Paul Kelly Cup) (under 12s?) this year.

So definitely heading places.
