View Full Version : What is Ladey's future heading????

Brendon Lade is one of my favourite players because of all the hard work he has put in over recent years to over come 2 broken legs, trust me i know what it's like breaking a leg, it's bloody awful!
Anyway Ladey would have to be around 26 now, and this year returning after a couple of years out, in my eyes has really struggled for form.

He did play a few games with port this year, and as each game went by i was like, oh next game he'll kick 3 or 4 goals, but it never happened, and eventually they ran out of patience with him, and has since been unable to come back into the side.
I just think that he is lacking confidence or something, because a few years back when he was in the side, he was kicking 4 to 5 goals and taking fantastic marks and kicking straight, and now i'm not seeing it anymore, where has it gone????

Does he still have a future with Port next year, because they kept him on our list and now this year hasn't produced anywhere near his capability.
I hope for his sake that the power keep the faith in him and keep him on our list next season, but with everyone performing so well it will be hard to keep his spot, and he may be used as trade bait
:(

He certainly won't be delisted.

I've gone from feeling like delisting him, to trading him and now I think he may be safe for another year.

Surely another year, it was always going to take time for him to come back. Perhaps we rushed him back too soon, maybe a few weeks with South early on in the year is what he really needed.

No way would he be delisted, and i doubt whether he would be the ruckman that is trading as his market value would be low incomparison to how good a player he actually is.

Played a good game for South on the weekend and may even be half a chance at getting back for this week, especially with a slight injury cloud over Matty.

Brendon Lade : played 13 games 2002, total 80. kicked 12 goals 2002, total 56.

One of our better players in 1997, turned some games when he went into the ruck.
Had a useful 1998, kicked some goals and provided strong backup to Primus, also took over well when Primus was injured for a few weeks.
Played very well in 1999, was our main ruckman for a lot of the year and marked well in defence.
Broke a leg in round 2 of 2000 and missed the rest of the year.
Came back in the Ansett Cup and broke a leg again. Missed that year too.

With those setbacks I didn't expect this year to be his greatest. I would have hoped for a bit more than he showed but I reckon if we delist or trade him we are really missing a bet here. If we can get the 1999 Lade back to partner Primus; with French's improvement we have the best ruck partnership in the league.

Well looks like we might see soon enough.

Lets hope he gets back to the Ladey of 1998-99 ASAP.

I didnt think that Brendons ruck work before he got dropped was all that bad. It was in general play that he looked lost. Thats understandable considering he missed the greater part of 2 years out injured. His fitness is not a worry, but he needs game time to regain other skills he had before he was injured. He needs to ruck and ruck alot, which wasnt possible so much given Primus's form, and that left him up front where he was found out for lack of game time. Then it was on the bench and not getting regular game time. So it was no surprise that he was dropped. We will see benefit from him next year.

Brendon suffered another injury in the Brisbane game ai round 7. Up until then he had been pretty good; in fact, in that game his ruckwork was part of the reason we got back into the game after Brissy had worked Primus out and kicked 5 quick goals off his ruck taps. Unfortunately, Lades' injury then meant he was out for 4 weeks and his confidence must have been at an all-time low when he returned. And he was never used in a position where he could show his usefulness but placed in the forward lines to provide a target. If he gets a bit of game time around the ground tonight we could be looking at the pre-2000 Lade.

Unfortunately he didn't do much tonight and French has clearly replaced him as the second ruckman after Primus. Remembering the case early last year (I think it was) where we had Ackland as the lead ruckman due to injuries I doubt he'll be delisted. And not traded unless we get offered a gun midfielder for him. We don't have a glaring shortfall anywhere else so wouldn't trade him unless it was clearly going to improve the team.

He's had a horror injury run, hopefully next year he can avoid the bad luck and get back to being a first choice player. Primus in Ruck, Lade up forward and French down back all playing well would be a headache for any opposition coach.

Yes, nothing to write home about tonight. Not that he was on the field for any significant length of time. I felt he was selected as there may have been a question on Primus seeing out the game. As it turned out, that didn't happen and Lade spent most of the night with splinters in his bum. Wonder if he'll be selected for the Gabba game. The game at the Gabba in round 7 was really his best game for the year, turning the game in the ruck but getting injured again in the last quarter.

He simply cannot be traded, if he was firing we would win the damn thing, as it is we may be one player short.

Last night, when both Lade and Tredrea were pretty much shut out of the game (in the first half), perhaps Williams could have moved him to a true CHF and let Tredrea have a bit of a run to get them both back into the game, plus Lade is usually a better set shot for goal. Or other options, anything but just let them sit there and catch a cold.

My one criticism of Williams has always been that he is somewhat retentive. Last night was no exception.
If a game-plan is not working then WE should change it, not flog a dead horse until it's too late.
Even last night we were not the hunters. Just like in the Collingwood game, the style of game was dictated by the opposition coach throughout, it's just that our players ability got us a win. It nearly did against Collingwood as well, and it just got us over in a few games during the season proper.
Both finals we could have, and should have, won by a very large margin

In the finals we've been too reactive definitely. During the home and away season I don't think so. Williams was willing to create a new game plan against Brisbane in round 22 and immediately put them on the back foot. Hopefully he backs himself again and isn't afraid to do the unorthodox next week. Play Lade and Tredrea across the forward line, drop Cornes back to defence again if Wakelin doesn't come up. Or have a three tall forward line stacked with 3 very strong marks making life very hard for the lions defence.

It's funny that two out of the last three weeks we have had three ruckmen play and won both of those games, yet the week we played only two we lost. However the third ruckman really hasn't done anything in either of the wins.

It's a tough question, i think it can make us more flexible but like last night we Jamesy got pole-axed it probably left us a small short, had the Guru played instead of Ladey, we probably would of won be more. It's gonna be another tought selection week with questions (injury or form wise) over Kingers, Wakes, Lade & Guerra, along with Poults and Bassett and maybe even Che still.

It's not his pre-game tactics I was referring to, he is quite good there, but rather during the game. If the other team/coach has the jump on him he doesn't like making tactical changes. He does them only if he really really has to, and as soon as things slow down he reverts back to original type set ups.
He does change players around but keeps the same play. If he ever improves in that area, he will end up being one of the very best coaches, if not we will have a lot of close games, and finals are usually close games.

When he took that great grab I was thinking oh Ladey's back!! Then he missed the goal...and we didn't see him for the rest of the night.
The selectors and coaching panel aren't going to throw away two years of waiting for him this easily. He must be treated like all the other players and told to step up a notch if he wants to keep his place in the side next year.
I hope he can keep a permanent spot in the side so much. He is a great ruckman for us when he's firing and a good option up forwrd when he's on song.

It was a damn shame that he missed that goal after taking that great grab. the Ladey of old would of gone back and slotted it. Had he kicked it i think he would of been choc full of confidence and it would of been great for the side.

No way will Port get rid of him, we'd be stupid to delist him or trade him (as his value is well down on what it should be). Another full pre-season, maybe a few early games for South and the a big return is hopefully what will happen next year.

Saying that i think he may well keep his spot this week and see if we can strecth Brisbane again like the last time we played them.

Very well put.
