A bit surprised Guerra was dropped but Mead was a certainty to go. I reckon Lade will play full forward. Good to see Che back, we didn't seem so potent up forward without him.

I was pretty sure Che would be back, our attack hasn't looked good and someone had to go. Pity it was Guerra but it's difficult to see anyone else. Apart from Mead who may, unfortunately, be leaving the Power on a low.

Please note this is not based on any fact yet, just on the general talk there has been on this and other boards.

Ladey and CC would have to play much better than their recent few AFL matches to justify replacing Goo (very unlucky but will have many more finals matches in the future) and Meady. Tough Darren:(

Best of luck guys.

Devastating to see Guerra omitted, He isn't even first emergency, Bloody Michael Stevens has been put in front of him.
Guerra's desperation will be missed, that match saving tackle for Brisbane musn't of earnt him any bonus points with the coach.
Sad to see Guerra has copped the flack from last weeks loss.
It is also surprising to see it was against Essendon considering his last two games against the bombers have been a couple of his standout games in the AFL.
Will Matty play?

Not surprised to see Guerra dropped as it has been coming, but as I have said previously through no fault of his own. No way known has he been given a chance to make any position his own.
Going on from what Porthos has said about N. Stevens, by the time Guerra is able to play midfield all the time he will be an absolute gun.

Well bad luck to them that missed out and let's hope we welcome back some old heads with a half decent perfromance.

Guerra definitely unlucky, but its not like he's been dropped for some gold pass goon to come in. Is it?

We better win otherwise there might be a few more changes for the next game.

Grabs bridle tightly. ;)
Was not meant to be a quote. Merely an expansion of a statement.
IMO he could become a gun, at the moment he does have a few areas he could improve in. Also not sure if he has the fitness required to play midfield the whole game at the moment.

If I could expand another:
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nick Stevens joined Port at a time when we desperately needed good midfielders, and I think he's been caught out because of it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Guerra came in we didn't need anyone in particular. His ability and endeavour earned him a spot in our 22 at a young age, and thus he became Mr Fix It.
Sometimes fate can have an influence with a players career.

Pity we don't have a "loan" system like they do in English soccer, because he could do with a year or so under someone like Matthews, Pagan, Sheedy or even Worsfold at this stage of his career.

Those 2 changes are the most obvisous ones expected.

I think we will benefit from CCC playing as he is a very good mark... equal to Tredrea and Cornes for his size. He will require a good defender to mind him and leave the other burgoynes free.

Lade we need to stretch their defense and backup Primus incase he is carrying an injury. I expect he will have a good game as being brought back in will boost his confidence and he normally plays well the 1st few games when he comes back into the side.

Mead unfortunately isn't upto AFL standard anymore, he has been a great servent and I would expect his retirement to come at seasons end. He still might jag another game this year though if we have an injury and we make the Prelim or GF.

Guerra even though he is a fan favourite for his desperation and 1%ers just isn't upto standard IMO. He is only young and still has plenty of time to develop but I think other midfielders have moved ahead of him in terms of development. Just look at how James, Schofield, K Cornes and Schofield have taken their game to another level. These players were all in a similar situation to Guerra and were shoved from pillar to post not being able to really settle and now they have lifted their games and regulars.

If you look at the 2 players coming into the side in CCC and Lade it is easy to see how they can benefit the team.

Should be a good game anyway... I just hope we go out to win 4 quarters.

Can't agree with that at all. He is certainly up to standard. He's a better alround player than Cornes, his kicking is up there with the Dew's and James'. His attack on the body and tackling is right up there too. Probably his fitness/pace may be a little bit below what it could be.

I don't agree that he is/was in the same situation as the other three mentioned (Schoey mentioned twice btw), how often was James put in the back line to plug a whole or Cornes thrown up forward and expected to provide a spark or a target? Guerra's problem probly is his fitness isn't quiet good enough to see him in a midfield role, whereas Cornes' fitness is good enough that he has become a run-with player even though his disposal is still not up to scratch.

With a another good pre-season the Guru will become as has been mentioned before a really good onballer, who will have many strings to his bow, hopefully we can hold on to him long enough for this to happen.

That 2nd Schofield should have been Poulton.

Guerra I think is a better kick at goal and a long kick but I am not sure about hitting other players (I might have to pay more attention to this in future games).

I think Cornes so far has a better habit of finding the ball and can hold his direct opponent better the Goo, but Goo has a better attack on the ball and tackler.

IMO unfortunately I can't ever see Goo settling down into a position until others either retire or are traded like Francou, Wangas, Kingo or Schofield. This might happen in about 3 years when Goo will be reaching 23-24 and would have racked up about 100 games by then and be on the verge of entering his prime from 25 - 30. Which will be absolute perfect timing for him... it is just finding a place for him in the meantime.

Cheers

So it isn't just the commentators that get them confused;)

CCC turned the game for us. If only he had that approach every week he would be in the top 20 of the comp easy.
Every once in a while Williams needs to drop him just to keep his mind on the job. Top show.

Just looking at the umpiring alone justified swapping Che for Guerra.

Guerra's tackles would've gone totally unnoticed by the umps, where Che's ability to get a free kick in a marking contest shone out.

Whether the same applies next week is another question!

Just as long as he plays like that the next two (hopefully!) weeks. Lade didn't do much out there tonight so could be a quick return and exit again if Wakelin is fit for next week. Poults was one of the most shaky out there tonight, hopefully he holds his spot for next week and plays the blinders he has most of the second half of the season. Though may want to leave Lade in the side as the over tall forward line stretched the Lions only two weeks ago and despite a quiet night tonight Lade is a better forward option then Brogan.

I think Che has done enough to keep his spot for the remaining games. Lade was a dead loss, and Poults is the other one with a question mark next to his name. Kingers looks like he may struggle with that injury (another hammy). Luckily Wakes, Guerra and maybe Bassett are still waiting in the wings.
