4.5 Vaas to Shoaib Malik, OUT: Out with a new rule's help, referred to
the TV ump who says the ball had pitched inside and height too was
ok, ump Harper raises the dreaded forefinger!

Do you think that this will ever work? The above was the first time that it was ever used. I personally don't think it should be used because you need to have the human element in umpiring, at the moment it is harder to be an umpire at a local league than Test cricket because all they do is stand there and count till 6 while relying all on video replays.

Not a fan. I reckon you still can't get conclusivisity on LBW decisions from the video.

I don't really like the idea of the video replying for LBW's You can't take human error out of cricket. The calls will go against you, and for you and will even out over time. But it can't be perfect!

I don't think it's a good idea either. Some of the close LBW decisions that look to the naked eye that the benefit should go to the batsman are often shown to be technically out which could make life harder for the batsman to ever score big scores.

I'm happy with run outs, catches and whether the ball is a four or six being referred to the video, but leave the LBW decisions to the umpire.

Cheers!!

i saw the delivery and at first the umpire would have had a tough decision determining exactly where it pitched. the replay showed that it did indeed bounce in line with the leg stump. would have liked another look to check for height though.

i am happy for them to trial video lbw decisions. if there's one thing in cricket that gets my goat, and i like my goat :D, is lefties being given out to righties coming over the wicket. majority pitch outside leg, but the stupid umpires have had a tendency to pay in favour of the bowler.

the other option is to change the rule re where the ball pitches.

or make everyone bat right-handed :)

Yeah, wasn't sure with that one whether I made it up or not. I think I also invented the word 'litifying', meaning putting a sound into words. If anyone could please advise on the right word for that it would be much appreciated!

Do they still use the 3rd umpire for run-outs and stumping decisions as I think I read an article that they have been scrapped in favour of the 3rd umpire being used for LBW decisions.

I don't think video should be used for LBW's but it is interesting to see where this goes. The decision given the other day was correct as far as line goes but it won't tell the height factor. I'm sure the batsman would have been given the benefit of the doubt if video reveiw wasn't being used in this tournament.

I think quite a few batting averages will start to fall a bit as a result of this if it is adopted widely.
