What type of players should we target in this years trade period and draft?

Here's what I think:

Highest Priority- Defenders either Tall and Mobile, or hardnuts.
Medium Priority- Solid in and under midfielders. (we seem to have drafted too many of the slim type recently in Cassissi, M. Stevens, Koulie, and Murray).

Lowest or by chance- Key forwards or Ruckmen.

If anyone has also been keeping an eye on the young talent about the leagues this year you might want to suggest some targets.

Since the only league team I really see is the Port Magpies only players I could suggest might come from there:

Corey Ar Chee - He might have missed the boat but I believe with a few preseasons under his belt a AFL level he could develop into a reliable defender.

Brett Ebert - Looks like a classy player and from great pedigree :)

James Wilson - Skillful and hardworking midfielder.

Aaron Davey - Skillful forward, flanker.

Thats about all I know about

I'm not going to comment on this until tomorrow at the earliest....no need to get ahead of ourselves.

I'd have the highest priority trading to get a midfielder who can be in our starting 18. We have more ruckmen on the list then any other two teams combined so offload one or two of Thurstans, Morgan, Brogan and Ackland to a team short of ruckmen like Essendon, Hawthorn or Carlton for a gun midfielder or the picks to offer a club to get one.

With Hardwick recruited this year we have enough hard nuts with him and Poulton stepping up. Remember also getting Wilson back next year, who's a tough nut.

After that need to recruit some young defenders. Our defence has been our strength this year, but Mead will go at the end of this year, Paxman end of next and Wakelin in 2 or 3 so need to get some replacements found in the medium term.

Remember that Hardwick has about the same time left in him as Wakelin. For this reason it may be better to hang onto such as Morgan and Thurstans and also give them some more game time.

If we trade for a non-tall we need another tough player, not another mini-me Mark Williams.
If we go for a tall, we need another forward, White is an unknown at this stage.
Rucks and backs we are pretty well right at the moment.

One of the weaknesses in most teams' reruiting has been the lust for the quick fix - either throught he trade or even throught the draft. Getting games out of rookies or even second year players is a bonus. So to replace Meady, we won't be looking at this year, because we looked ahead and stockpiled Thurstans, Morgan, Bassett - but now it looks as if SOPI will make CHB his own. Look for a huge season from Damon White next year - he may be the full-forward we have sought since Scotty Hodges and Queen Mary Cummings didn't measure up.

As for Lade, it could be his time to be used as bait, though he would diminished trade value right now. a couple of years ago, they were all chasing him.
