According to 10 news Essendon has told Courntey Johns that his service are no longer requied next year.
I am surpised that they told him so eariler but not surpised they got rid of him

Hasn't has had any luck with injuries. The writing was on the wall before he did his knee.
It's only being reported by channel 10, EFC to confirm at season's end.
It's possible he may have wanted to know what his future was so knowing Knighter, he would be honest and tell him.
I've been a critic of his for years but no one could doubt his courage and work ethic to over come his hip injury and all the other set backs along the way.
If true, which would seem logical, all the best for your future CJ.

What sort of trade or drafts pick could we get for him? Is he worth anything? I think it is great if we can get something for him. Best delisting news since my fav bradley. =)

Sad. We will come across his name in perhaps 3, 5 or 10 years and think how injuries curtailed any chance of a successful career. Good luck to him for the future.

Good luck to CJ, If he doesn't get a new cub he will have fun in his career as he works as a spray artist on cars :) Something that I think alot of people would like to do!

much the same as mark johnson and kepler last year, nobody will give anything up for him if they know they can get him for free

not surprised but kinda disappointed, I know that "potential" word gets thrown around but injury free, he could have been anything

Spent so much time defending this bloke i have come to hold a big soft spot for him. Best of luck if true big fella :thumbsu:
some things just don't need to be said.
As to "anything" that's highly unlikely, lacked the ability to position himself amongst other things. I think he could have been a decent player without injuries nothing more than that though.

So long Messiah. Sad ending to an extremely unlucky career at Windy Hill. Be wrapped to get a pick for him.

On the Footy Show they just said that Courtney Johns wanted to sue the vfl i think because of the state of TEAC oval and it being the reason he injured himself

Spot on, he showed a few glimpses of tearing games apart but just didn't tick enough of the boxes, including positioning at contests and the state of his body which isn't his fault, but it wasn't one to be admired in any way, shape or form. Good luck for your future aspirations Courtz. :thumbsu:

No doubt over his career did anyone question that he didn't have talent... The boy did!
Injury after injury, had set him back a lot and it just took tears out of his confidence and when he came back fighting he just got rejected once again by life... Good luck to him, in all seriousness I hope someone will pick him up once again, Melbourne badly need a BIG forward presence and he could be a rough candidate for them, obviously his injury's history list wont be looking too flash but he always had 'it' to play football and whilst at Essendon things just didn't go his way...
Best Wishes CJ...

I feel a tinge of sadness for Johns.
He battled to get himself on the park and defied a lot of people out there.
I think the club as let him down as they tried to make him into a power forward when with his injuries and fitness I think it was the wrong move. He was always about 5 kg's to big and thus was more likely to get injured or have no mobility.
The fitness program set out for Johns was not right. Maybe it was due to his injuries and circumstance but I think we could have done better with him.

Good luck to him. Never thought he'd make it and unfortunately he didn't. Really should have been chopped a year ago.

Welcome to Fremantle says Harvey and Co!
hahaha you just never know
Sad story.
Reality was that he was never going to make it after his hip injury at 16. Many in WA were surprised Essendon took him in the rookie draft, let alone invest so much time into him. He's a good bloke and deserved the shot but sad reality was that it was never going to happen.

If he was not contracted he probably would have been :)

best comment i've read here. johns had the attributes to be a gun full forward - he was extremely quick off the mark (actually tested one of the quickest over 20m at essendon), strong and a decent kick. the injuries and experimenting with him in defence didn't help him. he won't be on an afl list in 2009 but i hope he recovers well, kicks bags of goals somewhere like the wafl and is given another chance. at full forward he could be valuable.
i'm a bit worried, if laycock and dyson get delisted as well this year, I'll have no spuds left to bag on here.. what will I do with my mondays??
johns is case in point of spuds always being spuds.. no amount of time and effort will turn johns into an AFL footballer.. good luck at freo CJ :)

He never had it.
Johns had his chance in 2006 to show somthing when he played a full season in the abbsence of Lloyed and showed nothing but the ability to lay a nice hip and shoulder bump everyonce in awhile.
Wouldnt be suprized to see if Melbourne picks him up for nothing if he gets his body right.
lost respect for him when i heard about the case against the hard surface.gold digger:thumbsd:

Pay his contract out
Pay his contract out
And how often do clubs do that a year after giving the player a multi year deal? Besides, they seem to rate him as a reasonable depth player.

Norwood made the finals this year but had an inconsistent season. They should improve next year and have a reputation for securing former ALF players (Simon Phillips and Steven Doyle were a couple of pick ups last year). He should fit in well with their forward line, especially if Taylor Walker finds himself in Crows' colours for most of the year.
Its an excellent competition with great support so he should enjoy it.

Good luck big fella, can not say Essendon didn`t give him a chance, very lucky to last as long as he did. Big lump, fairly good mark, erratic kick absolutely shithouse below his knees. Wonder how mark robinson will cope, he wrote two fawning articles on him early in his career which were pretty un-fair on the boy. Sent some Essendon` supporters expectations sky-rocketing, but what else would you expect from an ordinary journalist ?

Good luck to the kid. I think everyone here wishes him the best. It wasnt because he didnt try that he never made it.
Looks like he wont be taken in draft. thought he may have been worth a risk???

After watching Norwood a couple of times this year, I reckon Walker won't wear Norwood colours again, so Big Johnsy will be a straight swap.
Good luck to him, I reckon he'll ragdoll quite a few defenders in the SANFL!!!
