FAAAARRRKKKK!!!!
I play for Ballajura colts in the WAAFL (amateur league), and today was the Grand final for the G grade seniors.
Now, people might say, G grade who gives a crap, but the comradery in these local football clubs would rival any other club, including AFL level.
Today they played off in the most important game of the year.
Ballajura seniors were undefeated throughout the whole year, and had a percentage of 500, undoubtedly the best team in that grade.
But today, and you have all probably realised what happened by now, was not a good day for Ballajura FC. We lost to a team that we had beaten four times during the season, including the semi final. The team had lost ONE QUARTER for the whole season! That's right, during the whole season they had lost only ONE QUARTER!!!
The rain was pelting down, the wind was absolutely feirce, and there was 11 goals kicked for the whole game.
Ballajura lost by seven f.uc.king points!
Everything that could go wrong did go wrong, and ****in hell it was hard to take.
After the siren went and the boys had lost by seven points we walked on to the ground to be met by 22 blokes who were wearing their hearts on their sleeves, and tears rolling down their cheeks. We all cried in those moments after the siren in the middle of the ground, even the colts and the mums and dads and the wives and girlfriends, emotional fu.cking stuff.
Footy is an emotional game, but it's so much more emotional when you're mates with the whole team, and there is that family feel to it.
Sh.it happens, but we gotta look forward to next season.
As for now, I'm off back to the footy club to drown our sorrows in litres of alcohol.
Take it easy.
Cheers, Mark.
PS - This post isn't meant for everyone to feel sorry for us, it's just to show everyone that the passion for footy, even at the lowest levels still exist.
CARN THE BALLA ROYALS!!!
