I've got it on pretty good authority that the opening match (Pakistan vs Sri Lanka) was fixed ... the ICC are launching an investigation into it anyway. Nothing official yet, but I have a very good source.
I also know that bookmakers who fixed matches in Sharjah have made their way into Colombo and they may have been the ones that fixed the opening match and hence the ICC's investigation.
FWIW, Dillon will probably be cruising up in Sachin's US$150,000 Ferrari very shortly.
Anyway, as far as India vs Zimbabwe goes, some terrific performances and some absolute shockers in there. Mohammad Kaif starred with 111* for India while Andy Flower hit the highest ever score for a Zimbo (145). That used to be Australian record too (shared by Ponting & Deano) until Gilly and MEW rocked up.
As soon as the RRR hit 8, India were in control, although Flower/Whittall/Marillier started chipping some twos and the odd boundary to send a few nervous quakes through the Indians.
Ashish Nehra is gone for a while I reckon. Dropped Flower while he was still in single figures, and bowled so poorly that Ganguly gave Tendulkar the penultimate over instead of him. Zaheer Khan was fabulous once again for India.
Again it was Hero Hondo that destroyed India for not the first time, and again Andy Flower that scored all the runs. Hondo got something like 4-25, not a bad effort. It was Kaif's superb acceleration that set it all up though. Dravid was run out again.
I think Zimbabwe pose a serious threat to England, although the Poms won't be as fatigued as India were. Should they win and England overcome India..well I suppose it's up to the bookies to decide who makes the semis!
Cheers,
Thomas.
