Guys, I know you don't seem to go in for political stuff much in this forum, however, at the risk of boring you - I'm most annoyed about Mick Malthouses stated 'reasons' for poor AFL crowds. He managed to have a go at the salary cap concessions for Sydney and the Lions and reckoned that supporters wouldn't follow a comp that was so 'compromised'.

What a sweeping and inaccurate generalisation - implying that the salary cap gave a big leg-up to these teams (and getting in an early shot at the Lions just in case we do it again). Last year it was whingeing about drips, and now this. I'll acknowledge that the salary cap concessions probably aren't the perfect solution to interstate players' homesickness, but witness what happened when the AFL tried to offer an alternate solution and encourage QLDers to play for the Lions - Collingwood et al wanted to take them to court!

The Lions current success is due to inspired recruiting over the last 6/7 years, a great coach and a bit of luck with injuries. The way it's always been.

Or maybe I'm just paranoid.

Malthouse works in a dig on Brisbane in everything he says these days.

This team of year always brings out the pettiness in all clubs involved and sour groups from those not. All clubs involved have drafted well over the past 4-5 years and now are reaping the benefits clubs that haven't like Richmond and Carlton are were they deserve to be.

I agree with Malthouse, the extra salary cap cash is so unfair. Look at the Swans, they've got even more bonus than the Lions and they haven't lost a game all year.

I think Malthouse is convinced he will be there on Sept 28th and is rallying to get the Victorian supporters on board! Virtually accuse Brisbane of being unworthy to be there due to "allowances" to try and get the sympathy of the underdog who is more worthy simply to get the black and white on the streets instead of the maroon, blue and gold or teal (I reckon it is aqua!!! :)) or red yellow and black. Not gonna happen Mick - even the most rabbid Victorian who has followed the game for 6000 years will barrack for an interstate team even if it is a south australian one over the woodies!!

Malthouse has always had a hateful mouth, he is bitter and nasty.

I noticed when he went into his 'salary cap rant' on the football show 'On the Couch' absolutely no one on the Couch said anything. Sheahan, Walls and Healy said nothing, and when Malthouse finished his rant, there was silence until Healy went and changed the subject and asked a totally irrelivant question.

The whole scene made Malthouse look small, and resentful.
