ICC champions trophy postponed to 2009, what a descision to make.

Huge decision, and very surprising from my point of view

After a teleconference between board members on Sunday, the ICC have postponed to 2009 the Champions Trophy that was due to be held in Pakistan in 19 days' time.

With South Africa already opting out of the tournament, and Australia, New Zealand and England players all publicly nervous about touring Pakistan, there was a concern of cricket reaching a contentious split if the tournament was cancelled. This was aggravated with India pledging their support to Pakistan.

However, the ICC have at least appeased Pakistan for the time being in choosing not to cancel the competition entirely but postponing it until next year. The question, though, is when to hold the tournament next year - there is no window in the FTP till at least October, when there is a possibility of the Champions League being played.

Massive news.

Another big gap between cricket again for the Aussies. Long break for them, with only the Bangladesh ODI's coming up.

so postponed until the same time next year. well india and pakistan weren't gonna play if it was transferred to sri lanka.

so this year the aussies have had
3 test/5 odi's tour to pakistan postponed
2 tests v bangladesh in australia postponed
and now champions trophy.

the itenary will be hectic somewhere along the way.

so the champions trophy will be after the ashes tour next year. we are due to play in pakistan at that time anyways because of postponing this years tour.

interesting times ahead.

So we're now planning two Champions Trophies in 8 months? and expecting terrorism in Pakistan to be wiped out in 14? and playing 4 tournaments at once next September-October? Riiight :rolleyes:

Give it to another nation to host in 2008 .

The bombs etc have been going off in Pakistan for yrs so i presume they will continue for yrs to come which is not good .
